The best available Resorts to stay near St. Augustine

April 20, 2023 Myesha Cogley

Saint Augustine is a luxurious, romantic vacation spot—you’ll find classic hotels and intimate restaurants. Those can be a dime a dozen, though. What sets Saint Augustine apart is its history—it’s the oldest European settlement in the U.S. And nowhere else in the world can you taste the waters of the Fountain of Youth Archeological Park (where Ponce de Leon may have landed). Who knows, if you vacation here, maybe you won’t need that Botox!

Broom Closet Room?

Reviewed By caseynicole79

We booked a 2 night stay at the Casa Monica on a long weekend trip. I have wanted to stay here for a few years and was delighted to finally get the chance. We were staying on points for the nights but didn't think that would make a difference, we were wrong! The valet, check in and housekeeping staff were all great! We felt welcomed upon arrival and check in was swift and easy. Upon entering our room it was a unique layout and I joked to my husband, 'I think they put us in the coat closet'. We were situated in between 2 suite rooms so our room was very oddly laid out. There were 2 mini long hallways that led to a very boxy room. The windows were tinier than tiny, the sink/mini fridge combo was oddly placed and the closet....well it had a step up into it that was behind a wall? We joked about the wonkiness of it all but overall the bed was comfy, linens were nice. I just felt that for spending 56,000 point PER NIGHT the rooms could have been nicer. Then, on our way out the next morning we were able to see into 3 different rooms as they were being services and they were the 'normal' rooms with large windows, faux balcony's and a normal layout. Overall the hotel was fine. As we all know, the location is amazing and perfect for being in the historic area. I did think the valet plus daily resort fees were a little high and having staying at other Kessler properties, we will not visit this one again. It was lack luster for the overall feel and amenities that we have experienced elsewhere, plus the feeling that I can't get out of my head that we were put into the room we were due to the fact we booked on points and were not paying the $600 rate for the nights we visited.

Great size room and friendly service

Very friendly and helpful employees. Room size was very large and comfortable. Balcony on 4th floor had a nice view. Good location only short walk to the beach. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant because the menu looked higher price than we wanted.

Location can't be beat!

This is an older hotel and it shows in some areas. But the room was spacious and clean and the view was phenomenal. The female daytime front desk clerk was cheerful and helpful and always greeted us when we passed by. I would stay here again for location alone - beach access and walking distance to restaurants, ice cream and some shops.

Good Location, but basic

Stayed here one night as travelling up to South Carolina. Check in easy albeit speaking to someone still behind glass. Outside motel looked freshly painted & clean. Ideal location walk across the road to the beach. Pier entrance fee $2, very nice lady in the gift shop. Back at the property everything was clean & what we expected. It is just a motel for on the go travellers so for the price we paid was fine for one night. Albeit breakfast would have been a bonus, but told again due to covid?

You get a better stay and more value from a cheap motel

Reviewed By 398darias

How they get away with calling themselves a “luxury” hotel is anyone’s guess. The lobby is luxurious and they charge luxury prices, and that’s about it. I’ve had better stays at a Super 8 or Best Western for a fraction of the cost. The linens are very cheap (again, I’ve seen better at crummy motels). No free breakfast despite the premium price tag. If cheap hotels can do it why can’t they? They advertise having a kitchen in the rooms. What you actually get is a sink and a fridge with no microwave. We could only find two microwaves on the first floor. This is a nine story hotel and these were evidently the only two microwaves in the entire building. I never imagined I’d spend 10 minutes waiting in line for a microwave. Some of the staff was very nice, others were unnecessarily rude. The hot tub was broken, and even had it worked was the smallest hot tub I’ve ever seen. Smaller than a residential one. Again, this is a nine story hotel. Save your money. Don’t stay here.

Peaceful Beach Stay with Locals!

Location is walking distance from the beach with Ocean Hammock park next door! I enjoyed my stay here. My room was big and clean with a comfortable king bed. The owners, Steve, and his wife Hanna are very friendly and welcoming and as a single traveling professional, I felt very safe here. I'm also glad to have found a relaxing hotel that enforces "quiet hours" for a good night's sleep. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a great location on the beach and want to support local!

The good and the bad

Reviewed By sallywallygal

Stayed here before a cruise from Port Canaveral. It's about a two hour drive to there. I wanted to stay in easy walking distance to the beach. This hotel met that requirement very nicely. A public access to the beach is diagonally across the street with a traffic light for the crossing. The beach is pristine state park land and gorgeous. I spent a lot of time walking on the beach, watching sunset and sunrise. Also good, there's a popular restaurant right next door. The wifi is good in the room. There's a sink outside of the bathroom, a feature I always like. The room is fairly updated in its look. There are blankets on the bed instead of a duvet, another plus for me! There's a small pool, but we didn't use it. Now the bad...There's no hairdryer (!!), microwave or chain lock on the door. There are only 2 pillows on each bed. The grout around the tub was dark - don't know if mold is stuck behind it, but it needs replacement. There are lots of dingy spots that could be better. It's not dirty, but it's not as good as it could be. The office was locked and registration happened at a window. The clerks (or owners?) were not friendly. I don't really care about that, but some people would. Overall, I would stay here again for the great location and reasonable price.
