The best available Resorts to stay near Kauai

April 19, 2023 Velvet Mowry

Relaxing and pristine Kauai (the Garden Island) is the least commercially developed of the Hawaiian islands. Waterfalls, scenic drives and more than 60 beaches dot the landscape. Some beaches have great snorkeling, others offer child-friendly tidal pools and some are perfect for all kinds of water sports. Dry-land activities include hiking the Kalalau Trail on the Na Pali coastline, taking a day trip to Waimea Canyon and experiencing life on a sugar plantation at Grove Farm Homestead Museum.

One of my favorite properties in all of Hawaii!

I was given the last room available for Friday night when I found out my vrbo had no plumbing. Not only was the staff amazing but they also kindly allowed me use of the hospitality suite once I checked out, so I could shower and change at the end of the day. I ended up staying right next door to the property the last two nights, so I enjoyed coming back to the hotel for all of my meals and shopping. HIGHLY recommended even at their highest rate. Wonderful.

Good hotel, close to beach

Nice hotel with many rooms facing the gardens (and two smallish pools). Beware of rooms facing the parking lot. Beautiful beach but waves can be too rough to swim. Room was decent size, with patio with 2 chairs and small table, ideal for a drink before dinner. Room had coffee machine, fridge, safe etc. Bathroom was big but sparsely furnished. Reception staff efficient and helpful. Parking can be a problem late afternoons, but 'free' valet parking (a tip is expected) is available. The Lava Lava restaurant is supposed tonbe good, as they don't take reservations and suggested to show up at 4:30 for dinner to avoid long waiting time, we didn't try it out. Overall a very reasonably (for Hawaii standards) priced abode.

The best pool ever.

I’ll start with my positives. I would have given this hotel a 4.5, but my complaints are not enough to drop to a 4. We stayed here 3 nights. The pool was amazing. Although you can only do slides from 11-6 … there are 3 different ones. Plus the main one had so many sections. They messaged before we got there if we wanted to have the fridge stocked when I got there - which I felt was awesome. The balcony door opened alllll the way. So we had 3 doors wide open if we wanted. We received Leis / beads when we checked in and there was chocolate and a bag with water in our room. The bag was great for beach toys. There were pool side food places, snacks and rentals. The room had a full washer and dryer. Kitchen supplies. Negatives - the breakfast place we loved was closed 2 of the days. With a picky son who loved the food, that kinda stunk. — but they did text everyone early to let us know other options.

The most beautiful resort! The oceanfront room is worth the splurge, you can’t get closer to the ocean! Rooms recently remodeled and very clean. All service was impeccable. Breakfast and dining options within walking distance. Ocean view immediately in front of the hotel and beaches directly on either side of the hotel. Poipu beach about a 5 min walk away. Any water gear can be rented directly from the hotel and great snorkeling in the bay right in front of the hotel! Drinks at the pool bar were great, Red Salt was good for a hotel restaurant. Definitely the nicest hotel option on the south side. Quiet, relaxed vibe. We brought one child and she had a great time in the pool! As the hotel is smaller there were plenty of chairs/umbrellas available at the pool and on the lawn.

This hotel is very nice and not too crowded. The pool is wonderful and large and there is plenty of room around it for everyone. We rented a palapa around the pool one day and around the beach another. It was so relaxing! There are restaurants and shops in walking distance and at night the tiki torches light up the bar and pool area. The renovated rooms were nice and overall the place was wonderful. The only downside is that it’s very pricey and the rooms did not have enough drawer space.

Received a call in August 2021 from a nice lady leaving a voice message she wanted to talk about our reserved stay for 2022. She had me on the phone for over 2 hours; literally doing the presentation on the phone to purchase their point system for $60k. She also said since I spoke to her we would NOT have to do the presentation in 2022. When our scheduled presentation was emailed to me this week, I immediately responded saying "hey wait a minute. we already did it". I had saved three dates of phone conversations; rep's phone number plus email address. Just received a voice message saying "hey you paid the package, that previous phone discussions/emails do NOT count."Villas are the hold garden hotel that's been remodeled so not quiet. You get what you pay for. If you just need a place to stay with a kitchen and sleep, hopefully without too much noise from the upstairs neighbors or hallways, then this will do. the pools are okay. The beach is across the street and down the path. It will do as long as your not looking for luxury of any kind. It's not the Motel 6, but it's not the Hyatt either. If you book through AirBnB, you'll be booking through some management company, and so on, so be aware of who you are booking with. They want to charge for everything. Again, it's not horrible, but it's not the Hyatt either. And you might need to call and ask because we thought we were getting a tub and we ended up with a shower only.

Amazing stay

Me and my family had the pleasure to enjoy this BEAUTIFUL resort. We were wowed by the great hospitality the staff gives, from the minute we pulled up I was greeted by a kind gentleman I asked if I could possibly check in early, he said it would be no problem as long as my room was ready and he’ll be glad to help take my bag up. I then proceeded to the front desk where I was greeted by Shanice she was happy, smiling and very so kind. She made conversations with me as if we already knew each making my first encounter into the resort very welcoming. We were able to check in early and she was happy to answer any questions and explain everything I need to know about what was included in my reservation and asked if I needed anything to please let her know. I also had the pleasure to cross paths with Frank and Lucinda from Naupaka Breakfast there on the resort. Lucinda made sure we were comfortable and tooken care of, she check up on us often even though she was not our server. Frank is friendly and super happy the best server I could ever ask for. My room absolutely amazing clean and perfect! I can’t wait to go back and stay at this beautiful resort again. Thank you Lucinda, Frank and Shanice for making us feel welcomed and being you ??

Very nice and clean hotel

Okay so I am back reviewing and posting on TripAdvisor. I am unbiased and tell it like it is. Hotel Coral Reef is a 27 room hotel in the city of Kapaa, Kauai. The hotel sits centered around restaurants and shops. Hotel Coral Reef is clean, quiet (except for the roosters). The friendly staff were very comforting to any of my needs. The hotel is steps from the beach. I preferred some of the beaches north of the hotel in Hanalei or of course the Na Pali coast. Uber/Lyft are expensive and unreliable my personal experience. The island has a great bus system, only $4/ each way to/from Lihue Airport. Check bus schedules for the times and stops for exact services. The hotel also has bikes for use. A clean tropical pool with a waterfall and floral beauty as it shadows you from the sun. The rooms are spacious with excellent TV channels to watch, sorry no pay channels like HBO, MAX, Hulu,Netflix you get the picture. Wifi is free and you can even do your laundry. Washer is $2 for a load and the dryer is free. Tide powder detergent is only $1 per small box. No softener sheets or liquid. Parking is free for guests and NO RESORT FEES!!! Finally Peggy Sue makes the Best Banana Bread on the island and is a joy to speak with. Alicia and her husband are very friendly and just overall cool people. All of the information provided by me is as of March 2022 services and/or details about the property can change. Mahalo and enjoy Paradise. Happy-go-lucky traveling. Sorry I don't have any pictures but TripAdvisor should have plenty.
