The best available Resorts to stay near Great Barrier Reef

May 1, 2023 Jacquiline Darosa

The world's largest coral reef system, the Great Barrier Reef stretches almost 1500 miles into the Pacific from the tip of Queensland. Designated a Marine Park by the Australian government and a World Heritage Area by UNESCO, the reef is home to an extraordinary abundance of species and habitats. Snorkeling, diving and fishing are rightly popular along the reef, nowhere more so than on the Whitsunday Islands, where the silica sands and aqua waters of the Coral Sea create the perfect beach escape.

Nice hotel but probably not worth the $$$

Reviewed By 6toris

Lovely room, nice pool area although the way it’s set out with the lounges, if you’re in the pool you feel a bit like you are in a fishbowl. Atmosphere could be improved with some music rather than silence. Our room had a kitchen which was great but didn’t have basic condiments and cooking necessities which was disappointing. Restaurant needs a wider selection of food to cater for different guests. Overall nice stay, but not sure if ultimately worth the $$$

NEVER AGAIN

Reviewed By maureenpH8032YP

We are disgusted with the way we were treated by staff, to the point if they worked for me they would no longer have a job. Very bad attitude towards paying guests, very bad language from staff towards guests. The staff on Saturday should not be in hospitality if they don't like their guests laughing and having fun. Dirty string in the bed, cockroaches in the rooms, mould on the smoke alarm. Very disappointed considering we are local and wanted to support Club Croc. NEVER AGAIN. Many other better places to choose from next time.

Staff feedback and stay

Great place to visit and I had a great time only downfall is, I do appreciate all that the staff do under the circumstances but they can be rude at times. It’s disappointing to see that staff get of the ferry drunk and their behaviour is very poor. It certainly is not classy. It’s disgusting to see an old man hanging around young people especially the woman. If they weren’t acting with this behaviour perhaps their customer service would be better. The breakfast chef always looks hung over. Overall enjoyed my time and would come again

My husband and I stayed here for a few nights. We got a Waterview Delux king. The view was lovely, and the balcony, though small was well laid out with chairs to sit in. The bed was comfy and the room had an expresso pod machine. There was plenty of storage. It is located on the Trinity inlet, close enough to the city to enjoy yourselves but not close enough to get the noise from crowds. The downsides The bathtub/shower combination was tiny and un-useable as a bathtub. The bathroom light switch was outside the bathroom, next to the front door rather than the bathroom door making it annoying to use in the middle of the night. The soundproofing was inadequate, with plenty of outside noise making it into the room. I have only stayed in a Hilton once before and feel the price I paid may have been paying for the hotels name rather than the room. Whilst there is a nice indoor garden in the centre of the hotel, it is unusable and I am unhappy to pay the same price I did at this stay in the future.

Def the best accom in Townsville with comfy beds and lovely views. Staff could be friendlier but for one night it was fine. Not sure why the pool wasn’t renovated during Covid makes no sense. Was told it’s being heated then the note only said a Reno. Regardless of month ppl swim. I cancelled a full week booking due to no pool. Not sure all the rooms are the same standard but mine was great with excellent aircon. Parking is not inside & no umbrellas avail to you get drowned if it’s raining.
