The best available Motels to stay near Oklahoma

April 19, 2023 Stefan Strunk

With hundreds of man-made lakes, state parks, casinos, museums and nightlife and dining opportunities in revitalized downtown areas in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, there is a lot to see and do in the Sooner State. The state is dotted with phenomenal lakes where swimming, boating and bass fishing are the most desired activities. Some of the state’s most popular lakes include Broken Bow Lake located near the Quachita Mountains; Grand Lake in the northeastern corner of the state at the foothills of the Ozark Mountains and Lake Murray in the hills in the southern part of the state. While the state is known for its many outdoor activities like great fishing, golf, hiking, canoeing and boating, make sure you don’t overlook its fantastic museums. Heading the list are Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, featuring the world’s largest collection of art and artifacts from the American West; the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, which tells the story of the American Cowboy; and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, which has a permanent collection of American and European art. A venerable family favorite activity is Frontier City Amusement Park in Oklahoma City, which has dozens of rides and shows.

Great Breakfast, Bad Room

Reserved what was claimed to be the “best room” in the building for a fun family getaway trip. Check in went very smoothly till we entered our room. My husband tried to use the bathroom but the toilet would not flush. We called up to the front office and was then told there had been some kind of water shut off and that the toilet needed to build pressure. I was told there was no available maintenance to check to see if that was the issue. We were unable to flush the entire visit. Our room had a jacuzzi whirlpool tub that filled with brown water. When asked the front desk stated it was related to the water pressure issue. The outside parking lights were extremely bright. Even through the blackout curtains it look like it was noon outside. I recommend bringing a sleep mask. That all being said I can say the breakfast was very enjoyable. They had many different options that were very family friendly. I was offered a small discount but still left very disappointed unfortunately.

1 night was enough

We reserved and paid for a jacuzzi "suite" a few weeks prior to our trip to Tulsa. I know when I did the search for a room I had entered 2 adults, but after I completed making the reservation I noticed it had somehow changed back to 1 adult and wouldn't allow me to modify the reservation. Therefore the room only had towels for 1, but we always pack our own anyway. Upon arrival I was asked for a credit card and I gave her the debit card I paid the reservation with. She was like oh this is a prepaid card huh? I said yes. She said she'd have to authorize a $100 deposit hold and was about to send me to put money on my card. No ma'am I have cash. The reservation never even mentioned a deposit, but when I got there they wanted one. The room was 2 floors directly above the lobby/check in desk. The room didn't have good lighting at all. There is no light in the center of the room, nor over or near the jacuzzi. That's just a dark corner and something seemed to be wrapped around the sprinkler system above it as well. One of the bedside lamps had a blown out bulb. The one on the other side had to be clicked multiple times to get it to come on and stay on. I found a disgusting crusty nose ring on the "comfy chair". The couch and chair stupidly face the bathroom and microwave. The blue wall that the bed is against is very dirty. I mean the only clean spots on it were the body print and gigantic hand prints indicating that some previous tenants had sex against the wall. The morning staff seemed bothered by the fact that so many people checking out had deposits to get back which required her to have to go check the rooms first. Allow your housekeepers more time to actually clean up the rooms. We don't know anything about the breakfast as we didn't bother to get up early and try it.

First and foremost, the desk clerk was great. Very accommodating and helpful. However, this place is an absolute nightmare! It is filthy. Smells like marijuana. People in the parking lot and hallways selling drugs. Dogs running all over the place. Learned that this hotel was an overflow for the local homeless shelter. This place needs to be condemned.

Not up to par with other Hampton Inns

Reviewed By kaenhu

This is a Hampton Inn, so I don't expect it to be perfect. But it really is a little bit worse than other Hampton Inns that I've experienced. The bathroom fixtures are a bit older and rustier and could use an update. The person cleaning my room left soap smudges in a few places in the bathroom. None of this is a big deal, but the real problem was that I requested a late check out and was told immediately told no by the front staff. Usually they look this up in the computer to determine if they can grant you one. But these folks said no, that the hotel was too full and they were not giving late check outs to anyone. Blatant lie. I was participating in an organized marathon/half marathon and met many other runners who were also staying at the hotel and they were all granted late check outs. I am a Hilton Diamond member and one of the perks is getting a late check out. So outside of the slightly worse state of the hotel, I have to say, I don't like being told lies by staff people who didn't want to be bothered.
