Dirty and smells like weed

Reviewed By 344glendab

We decided to leave for our vacation two days early. We arrived in Myrtle Beach very late and the office to the place we were staying for the week was closed so the Mermaid Inn was close by. Check in and check out was easy. Staff was nice but the rooms need updating very bad and wasn’t the cleanest. The parking lot smelled of weed. It’s definitely not a place I would spend my vacation. We stayed there two nights and I couldn’t wait to check out.

Do not stay here. Where to begin.. Solo female traveler. I haven’t stayed in the southern end of Myrtle Beach for years and was shocked at how sketchy the area has become. My first clue when trying to enter the lobby at 6:00pm, was that all the doors were locked. I didn’t understand why my Uber driver was reluctant to leave me alone there. Now I know why. Front desk person finally unlocked a door and then locked it behind me. Not the most welcoming person. The room.. not AT ALL like the pics. A couple things may have been updated or painted, but it’s still in disrepair. My door had a large opening around it like it wasn’t hung right. Tricky to actually get it to lock. The door to the balcony was the same way. Not exactly comforting when you’re traveling alone. No hot water in the bathroom faucet. Handle on shower was loose, so hard to regulate temp. There was a wet spot on carpet (found it by stepping on in my socks) and it reeked of urine. I walked 5 min to the Walmart Market ONE time. It felt so unsafe with two separate cars with blacked out windows stopping along side me and honking. Outside of hotel, all you could smell was weed. To each his own, but it shouldn’t impose on others. The front desk person on the first day tried to charge me twice for the stay. I had already paid in full via a third party app. Pointed it out to the next front desk person the second day, she corrected it and it showed as a credit on my card. The next morning I looked at my account again and the charge was back on!! I inquired again, and was told that it was “pending” and would not be charged again. I have to keep checking because I have no reason to trust at this point. I checked out a day early because it was so miserable. Although the beds & linens were pretty decent, between the smells and the noise outside (it’s a very noisy area with loud music coming from cars and the pool is supposed to be closed at 10, but people were yelling and screaming at midnight) made it very hard to sleep. All of this made it impossible to just sit on the balcony and relax. I booked this hotel based on reviews as always, but I seriously have to question who wrote them. Don’t waste your money or vacation time on this place.

Gross and Unfriendly

Definitely get what you pay for. My sister booked this for the cheap price; I'm a bit more fussier on where I stay. Was right on the beach, but we were there for an overnight during the off season. The room was filty; your socks turn black when you walk across the carpet. Wi-fi not functioning. The bed sheets had stains on them; had to sleep on the coverlet. Only plus was a decent shower. Staff very unfriendly, except for the nice Muslim woman at the desk when we checked out. We didn't leave, as there was no refund.

Good hotel, good location, great staff, but get rid of the platform beds!

Reviewed By Joiebean

I stayed for a long weekend at Holiday Shores and the staff was absolutely fantastic. They were genuinely there to make your stay as positive as possible. The hotel itself is located just a few steps from the beach and they will give you beach towels if you ask. They really stress a "just ask and we'll be happy to help" mentality. The hotel itself is nice. The common walkways upstairs are a little worn and a little dirty, but that's probably par for the course if you are near the beach. I had a suite that had a small living room, bathroom, kitchenette and bedroom. It was really comfortable and was the perfect amount of space for two people. I will admit that the carpet was a little dingy, but I have definitely seen much worse. Also the bath towels are thin and a few had some holes in them. But it is a quaint little hotel that is very centrally located and we had a great time. The only thing that I absolutely have to recommend to the hotel is to get rid of those platform beds. I must have smacked my my shin on it half a dozen times to the point where it broke the skin and I have a gigantic bruise. Especially in the middle of the night when I would get up, I repeatedly hit it. I would have to imagine I am not the only one. Other than that, I'd definitely go back.

DO NOT STAY HERE

Reviewed By BBobRules62223

My family wanted to spend one of our last weekends with my daughter before she goes off to college. My wife and I use to stay in Myrtle Beach every other weekend when I was a young Marine stationed in Jacksonville NC. We booked a room through booking.com. I wanted to inform you of many code violations at these 2 hotels before someone gets seriously injured or killed. We purchased a "Deluxe room" at the Atlantic Hotel, 411 North Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 unit 12. This unit had standing water on the floor. It also did not have any grounded electrical outlets, or GFCI's. They have all the switches taped off so you could not use them which leaves me to believe that here are many more electrical issues with this property. There are no locks on the doors, blood on the floor and walls, mold throughout the unit, dirty towels and open drug use. I told the management that we could not stay at this property because of risk of injures. They then sent us to their sister property, Atlantic Hotel, 2608 South Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 unit 102. This property also did not have any GFCIs. It was also missing smoke detectors. The outlets and switches are painted over. Also the TV did not work. There is open drug use at this property also. The manager told me to park in the lot next to the hotel and come to find out that it was not the hotels lot and my car was towed away. This lot is not marked with signs stated whose lot it was and I took his word for it. This cost me $160. I pointed out these issues to the management and they did not care. I asked to be reimbursed for the tow and they told me "absolutely not". I asked them for the owners phone number to discuss these issues and they would not give it to me. I was charged $335 a night to stay in a "Deluxe Room" at this property and they would not let refund my money and I was force to stay here.

Falsified damages for fee money

We told them 3 times our TV cable had been ripped out. It was never repaired, and we didn't have TV the entire week. Then they charged us for it. Also said the room was trashed and I literally cleaned it before we checked out because housekeeping never came by. Was charged 200 dollars for "destroying the room" and when I called to dispute the manager was very rude and condescending. Worst experience in my whole life.
