Reviewed By PdubtripsRoom Surfaces and bathroom appeared to be clean. Towels clean, bedding clean. Floor filthy and turned our feet black. Beds way too soft and very small. Staff was excellent. Good choices for breakfast.

We are nestled between Sierra Mountains to our west, Death Valley to our east & the magnificent Yosemite National Park to our north. Mount Whitney is just over 50 miles south-west and you can easily reach there in about one hour. Starlight Motel is within 25 miles of the Bristlecone Pine Forest. Mountains, lakes, and hiking trials surround us with wonderful fishing as well as skiing in the vicinity. We are just 14 miles south of Bishop & north of Independence. Starlight Motel and the Oza family always welcome children. To make your child feel at home, fresh fruit, snacks, or treats await you at our humble abode. A surprisingly decent motel with a very nice staff.
Reviewed By JohnKrThere aren't alot of choices in Big PIne. I count three motels in total. We picked Starlight and were pleasantly surprised with a decent good-sized room with nice wood flooring. The owners are great and the grounds have an elevated deck area with BBQ and a sitting area with a fire ring. No complaints and if we're in Big Pine again we'd probably stay here again.

Bait and Switch
Reviewed By mct845I booked this motel after seeing the description and pictures on the internet. The pictures looked very nice and the kitchen looked good, fairly equipped (refrigerator, stove, etc., basic but usable), so we booked the room. Upon booking we found that the listed price went way up but we booked it anyway. When we checked in we were given a dingy little room that did not look anything like what the motel showed online. The kitchen consisted of a sink, mini refrigerator, and mini microwave, 2 plates, 2 dishes, 2 forks, 2 spoons, and 1 knife. A couple of small pan lids were in the cupboard. There were electrical sockets as if there had been a regular refrigerator and stove which had been removed. The luxury linens on the bed were very old, hardly luxury and mismatched as if they were leftovers. The bathroom seemed to be an after thought with a tiny shower in which you bumped your elbows on the wall, a toilet that was set so that your knees either bumped the sink or had to be tucked under it, and no place to hang the absolute minimum of towels that were left out in the other room. By the bed there was not an end table and lamp on each side as pictured. This room felt like it was added after the fact squeezed into a maintenance closet or something. Plus the room was expensive, $261 for one night, $32 more than what I had already thought I was going to be charged. I won’t ever be back. Management had not explanation or did they offer recourse. I really felt this was a bait and switch situation and will never be back.

Rude disrespectful, discounting, and unhelpful attitude and actions by staff. 1. 2nd Floor walkway to rooms has sinking spots, and carpet looks completely filthy and trashed, attached with industrial staples. 2. Some doors have gaps of up to 1/2 inch - leaving room for bugs, snakes, etc. to enter your room while you sleep. 3. Parking area lights for 2nd building broken and one is smashed is laying on the ground. 4. Mens' underwear and dirty clothing lying in parking area for several days. 5. Garbage cans outside rooms are not emptied daily. 6. In several rooms, rooms were dirty and did not meet promised advertised standard of "highest safety cleanliness." Floor was covered with dirt, and when washed (upon checking in) left a bucket of water and soap black. 7. Pleather covered seating covered with dust, dirt and grime. Had to wash and sanitize. 8. Door frame to room was falling apart, with pieces of wood missing. 9. Stairs to rooms missing sections, in disrepair, needing painting, and repair. 10. Shower curtains are strange fabric that does not appear to get washed between guests. Bring your own shower curtain and shower curtain rings. 11. Surfaces needed to be disinfected. 12. Bed had two flat sheets and no fitted sheet. Was refused sheets when asked at office. 13. Office staff rude, disrespectful, and continually disregarded guests medical ADA needs and requests, requiring guest to stay in a 2nd floor room, then to move rooms several times, and gave guest three sets of keys to a room that was broken, yet acted they they were unaware. When asked for a key to unlock the door (a real key for the lock that showed) was told the key was "lost." 14. Threatened guest with unauthorized entry to room, to check smoke alarm, and refused to wait five days until guest vacated. 15. Was told guest not allowed to have "Do Not Disturb" for room; that housekeeping wanted to inspect the room because too many guests destroy their rooms and leave them trashed. This was said to a senior citizen who left the room cleaned, floor washed, shower scrubbed, all trash emptied, and sanitized upon departure on previous stay. 16. Left unattended when called to confirm same day arrival and told "Oh, you don't have a room but we have your reservation"then left on the line while employee made personal call that could be heard to talk about hamburger for her weekend. Motel6 doesn't have a hamburger room option. 17. Threatened guest saying that unauthorized entry was for "fire department" but no fire department inspection was scheduled, and then admitted there was no such thing. 18. Demanded guest cancel evening activities, and next day travel committments, to accommodate the hotel's staff preferences, and insistence on entering room improperly without authorization during paid guest stay. 19. Caused unnecessary stress and loss of travel time due to bizarre disregard of guests. 20. Towels tiny and thin. Sheets very thin and very worn out. 21. Bathtubs in several units in disrepair, and appears to have DIY home spackling" on tubs and walls. 22. Did not have all toiletries stated that were available upon checkin. 23. Many guests smoking marijuana, yelling, and arriving at all hours of night without any consideration of existing guests. 24. Rooms with adjoining doors have no privacy, soundproof, seal, or separation from smells. 25. Told check in was 3 pm, when online reservation states 1 pm; not allowed to check in after calling ahead twice, and driving all day. 26. Rooms had dust bunnies, dirt grime, and layer of dirt (found upon sweeping, washing, and wiping down with cleaners and disinfectants). 27. When told, upon checking in, they had the reservation, but had not held a room for the guest, left the guest stranded, asking local police for options to sleep in car as all other hotels either full, or charging more than twice and three times the cost of reservation for a same day reservation stay. For more than 3 hours, left guest in a state of severe concern where they would sleep and be safe having traveled at least six hours and made several confirming reservation phone calls, and told that all was well, until arrival. 28. Pool door broken and could not be opened. 29. Icemaker did not work, told it would be fixed "sometime" but not the same day, and no alternative ice provided. 30. Garbage around property, and what appeared to be homeless sleeping bags, and items, right next to building at ear side. 31. Bags for dog poop in dispensers did not exist.

Reviewed By xerryJGood location, good store just next to it, where travelers may buy anything they need. I had two rooms, with kitchen, the kitchen is simple but functional. The bathroom was quite cold as the heaters were so so able to heat both rooms.

Reviewed By Getaway61805058474Very quiet and clean, comfortable bed. Setup like an auto camp of the past with duplex buildings, old style tiled standup shower. Small Room had 2 windows, and convenient parking is beside room. Parklike area with lawn, trees, tables at the back of lot. Off the main drag so no traffic noise. I believe it was the least expensive in town.

Reviewed By budgettraveler42I booked a room for two nights (march 2021). I was travelling by myself and picked the cheapest place I could find in Bishop. I was ready for a below average place but it was not. It was very clean, more space than most hotel rooms, it had a refrigerator, the tv worked great with lots of channels, and the wifi was perfect, far better internet than I get at home or work!

Reviewed By daltal618563Weird vibes in a nice little town. It's the cheapest and you can tell why. Wasn't very clean and the pool wasn't usable. The check in took for ever ans the owner didn't give a welcoming vibe of while trying to figure out reading our names from a document.
