Motel 6 Costa Mesa, CA - Newport Beach

Renovated in June 2009 with a modern, European boutique-style flair , modern guestroom design that features bright accent colors. The room includes ambient lighting, wood-effect flooring rather than carpet, and a 32-inch flat-screen TV. The flat screen TV is displayed on the entertainment unit which conceals the door-less wardrobe behind it, thus combining two needs into one unit. Also included on the entertainment unit is a cubby for personal items and a multi-media panel allowing guests to plug in their mp3 players, CD players and laptop computers – this feature allows guests to listen to their favorite tunes or use the flat-screen TV as their computer monitor while enjoying Wi-Fi internet access in their room. The room also features pedestal beds with a new taupe-colored coverlet and pillow-top platform mattress. Guests will also notice the clean style and the upscale touch of the colored bed scarf that matches the accent wall color.

Not terrible, but not great

Look, I don’t understand why hotels still have rooms with double beds. Just put two queens in the room. There was space for that and then some. The room was very clean, but our AC unit leaked all over our floor. The property was clean and the staff was nice. There was not enough parking on our 2nd night so we had to park illegally on the property. I liked the proximity to the ocean for the price. We might be back, but I’ll look for other hotels first.

BEWARE OF THE BED BUGS!!

Reviewed By AziGVM

My husband and I spend almost 10 days at this motel. It was a good value for the price. The amenities were decent. The only problems were the bed bugs and how the management handled the situation. Within the last three nights of our stay, our body were covered in bed bug bites and it was horrible. Took this matter to the management, they first denied it were bed bugs , and then they said I must have brought the bed bugs with me! Anyways. We checked out and retrieved the money for the two more days I had booked with them. But overall, I was disappointed with how they handled this matter.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I booked and pre-paid for a two-night stay in a standard non-smoking Queen room at the Orange County Airport Travelodge. We arrived about 9pm and checked in at the front desk, and were directed and given keys to a room, at the rear of the building.  We drove around, got armfuls of stuff, and swiped ourselves into the room – only to find it occupied by three people, who slammed the door in our face. Apparently no staff had noticed that the room had been neither cleaned nor vacated. We put our stuff back in the car, drove back to the front desk, and asked WTF?  The receptionist said something like “oh they never paid for today”, and gave us keys to a different room, which was a room with two double beds, instead of a queen.  But at least there were no other guests in it. The next day, we left the room and all of our stuff about 8am for our day’s activities, returning again about 9pm.  As we drove up, we joked “ha ha, I hope there are not people in our room THIS time”.  But alas, there were again three (different) people in the room.  We were flabbergasted.  Were they in there with our stuff? Again, we drove back around to reception and again asked WTF?  The receptionist explained that since we were only booked for a single night, housekeeping had dumped our stuff in a bin to make the room available.  I showed her the two-night room confirmation, which puzzled her.  She said something like “I don’t know how this happened”, then made a bunch of phone calls.  She told us “someone called your room” to ask about extending our stay – but we’d left the room about 8am and so of course did not receive that call.  No one tried to call my cell, which they had.  The receptionist eventually led us first to the housekeeping room that had our stuff in a laundry bin, and then took us to yet another room.  When we inventoried our belongings in the bin, we found we were missing some items, including an irreplaceable gift given to my wife by her grandmother.  This room had no working smoke detector (a violation of federal law)  or door privacy lock, nor any coffee cups or coffee; and there was old coffee in the pot.  There were broken fixtures, mold, and cracked paint in various places.  When the receptionist let us in to the room, the TV was on and the A/C was blasting and set to 63, giving us the impression that it was recently occupied by someone. I suspect it too had not been cleaned.  But at least it had a queen bed. When we checked out Sunday morning, the receptionist explained that a manager would call us Monday about our experience. Of course, no manager called. When I called them, I was told that "only the general manager" can give us back any of our money, and that he was suddenly called out of town for a family emergency. Perhaps. Or perhaps that's the party line whenever anyone has a gripe. This was the worst hotel experience we’ve ever even HEARD of, let alone experienced.

Dirty and disgusting

Reviewed By seanna619

this room is the nastiest room I've seen in a long time which is so sad because when it was corporately owned it was a very clean comfortable place to stay now it's disgusting! The motel six a block away is 100% cleaner and that is mine blowing right! I don't understand why the owners don't take charge of this the bathroom smell like a truckstop there's black mold this is crazy! The location is so good hopefully they get this together because this is ridiculous! The fact that they try to take a $50 deposit for this is hilarious also!

Managers suck but staff is cool

Reviewed By JaimeTHEtruth

I really liked the staff but the two managers are so fake and judgmental. Dealing with Kristina was absolutely annoying. She gives these looks like she thinks she’s better and it’s so obviously fake that it’s just plain insulting. I don’t get what her problem is. If she’s so unhappy there than leave. Do you not like everyone that goes through this motel. Eddie is nicer but he’s still obviously trying to pretend like he doesn’t think he’s superior but he does a horrible job of it even with the mask on. The rest of the staff are nice and seem to be down to earth but these two managers need to find another job. Find something that actually makes you happy for the right reasons
