Superbly run hotel with old-fashioned charm

Reviewed By ooblyboo2016

We booked this hotel late and weren't sure what we were going to end up with, having initially looked at booking in Aurillac. Fortunately, it was a real find. The couple (at least we presumed they are a couple) who run it work absolutely tirelessly and never seem to be far away when you need them. They were always friendly and helpful whether checking you in or out, welcoming you for breakfast, or serving you at the bar. The town seems very much to be a place time forgot (largely in a good way) and the hotel is similar in the sense that many of its original features have been preserved. The indoor bar, with its original chiller cabinets made in Clermont Ferrand just up the road speak of the hotel's past. It could almost look dated were it not for the fact that they have spent money upgrading it where it matters - such as in the bathrooms, which are clean, modern, and well kitted out. The rooms themselves are very basic aside from a flatscreen TV. There could perhaps have been some facilities for tea and coffee. Noise does travel between rooms easily and on our first night we had noisy neighbours who we had to ask to be quieter. But this was our only complaint. The hotel is very well located for some of the Cantal's main attractions including the Col de Pertus and the Puy Mary, as well as for Aurillac, and the town of Vic sur Cere itself, while a bit sleepy, has a lot to recommend it. This is a beautiful part of the world, often overlooked by British tourists and perfect for walkers and cyclists. Well worth a visit and provided you don't go expecting absolute luxury, the Beausejour is a great option for a stay. We hope to be back one day.

One night stay with evening meal, not recommended

Reviewed By Ian S

This was not a nice stay. After a swim in the pool which had mold growing all around the top of the liner we ordered five beers. The beer was undrinkable due to the vinegar acid taste. Either the lines had not been used for a while, cleaned or the barrel was off. We politely informed the manager who did not show any care. The drinks were charged despite not being drank. The evening meal was a disaster. Dirty cutlery and when asked to change for clean there was no apology just a look of displeasure as they had to change them. The food was of poor quality, very small portions and we had to wait 30 minutes between each course with the food never being brought out at the same time for everyone. The waiter dropped a plate of salmon, salad and olives on the feet of two of our friends, he never returned to clean up the mess, after 10 minutes the local dog came to eat it all. The room was clean but was in need of renovation. The carpets in the hotel were dirty. Out of four days of travelling this was our only dissapointing hotel. This hotel has potential but is in need of good management.

Great for a stop over

Good points - Nice dinner, great host/ owner, nice indoor and outdoor pool if a bit small. Great views. Clean. Games room. Bad points - nothing to do without riding or driving some way away, small room/tv/pools/ breakfast choice ( no pain au chocolat) confusing signs saying only Belgians could help themselves to drinks as they were all inclusive . Never seen a hotel that was not entirely all inclusive. Hotel badly in need of some tlc
