The best available hotels & places to stay near Torre del Mar

August 28, 2022 Malia Yoakum

Torre del Mar sits between the Mediterranean Sea and the Sierra Nevada mountains, making for spectacular views. Compared to much of the Costa del Sol, it has managed to retain a great deal of its authentic Spanish atmosphere, despite an increase in tourism. A long promenade along the water has clubs, excellent seafood restaurants, cafes and more, and the wide sandy beach is superb. The town is connected by tram to Velez-Malaga, which is worth visiting for its historic beauty and charm.

A great little hotel, friendly staff, small but comfortable , off white painted rooms, ( not like those depicted on the website ) , spotlessly clean…on the sea front , a short walk to the beach and local shops and restaurants . Comfortable bed , superior rooms have balconies. Quiet air con..Regular change of linen and towels. No restaurant but a small cafe for breakfast ( 3€ or 5€ ) and toasties and great service ! A lift from the first floor to the rooms but disabled access possible from the cafe : bath with adjustable shower. Would we return. …. .? Yes . Torre del Mar is a really great little town…… but lacking in a good cigar shop ! Other than that it’s got everything you need ; it basically caters for Spanish tourists but there are a few English bars away from the paseo . Amazing sea food available nearby. Beach is dark sand but stretches for miles …… almost!

WARNING After working over 12 years in the hotel industry at a director level in Europe and the USA i can say that this hotel is NO WAY a 4 star hotel The hotel is over rated , i have no understanding whatsoever why some people like it , possibly due to the location. which is good , but i can only assume standards are low and people don’t really understand what a good 4 star hotel should be The hotel over all is stale and depressing , doesn’t feel like a beach hotel at all , doesn’t even have a holiday feel The reception area reminds me to a motorway holiday inn at best , it is not welcoming in any way and should be in some kind of training pack for what a reception area should not look like , color, decor and furniture very very old fashioned in need of modernisation The beds are the most uncomfortable i have ever slept on ! , mattress was very very hard, springs sticking into my . back and every time you turn over the bed was on the verge of collapsing . When complaining to reception regarding the mattresses , the reply should have started with “i’m so sorry to hear that …… instead i was told “ well , everyone likes them and they are new “ , this is not the response i would expect from a 4 star hotel , has no one trained the staff on managing complaints , to be on the defensive is not the answer. However judging from the response from the owner to some of the negative reviews on here , they are all on the defensive , not professional and obviously no proper Customer care training and complaint handling training in play The next day i spoke to a girl on reception , she seemed more sympathetic and told me she would look into it , never heard back I was told that the mattresses were new , Well , they may be new but they are cheap mattresses, quality is the word that i’m looking for here The pillow was of very very poor quality, only one thin lanky pillow for each bed , We asked for 2 more pillows , didn’t make a difference, I have not been able to relax at all ,not surprised they advertise back massages in reception with beds like that , business is a guaranteed success The air conditioning is a joke ,the bedroom was like sauna at night , only works if you are moving around in the room , very difficult to sleep and if you sleep with the patio door open you get attacked by mosquitos , the fridge is pathetic , its just an area to store drinks and keep them at room temperature, the balcony terrace is a disgrace with views of the city (the hotel said ) , they have a good sense of humour because the view we had left us depressed , please see photos i have uploaded The furniture for the terrace/ balcony very much belongs in a cheap run down beach bar not in a hotel that claims to be 4 star There is no area in the bathroom to put toiletries , just the sink area which gets very wet , the towels are also poor quality very thin and small The walls are paper thin and we could clearly hear the arguments that the family room next door were having , some times around 1 in the morning I don’t recommend this hotel , it’s a waste of good hard earned money The hotel has parking but not in the hotel itself , so it’s a big hassle no suitcase trolley to help you or porter , the parking is across the road it’s not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel , parking 18€ per night .. please don’t bother there is one five minutes away and it’s free ! we found it really easily Don’t bother with watching TV , it’s impossible, the signal is terrible and you can’t watch anything without constant interruption . It needs very much to be be re modelled , i would suggest replacing the light green carpet in the corridors or maybe deep cleaning them once in a while , maybe next time go for a navy blue colour , with everything green it reminded me of a sordid hotel you would find near the airport , for married people having affairs like the ones in the film Thank god we had 10 fantastic days in cádiz in the hotel playa victoria, this hotel i highly recommend, 4 star but it so deserves more We won’t be returning to hotel Mainake, there are better hotels in this area , we feel robbed of our money , look around before booking if you want 4 star quality I don’t recommend this hotel , it’s a waste of good hard earned money , we left early

This hotel (well it's really a block of overspill rooms for the hotel torremar) should not be advertised as an hotel it has no hotel facilities ie no reception (you have to check in at the hotel torremar down the road) no bar inside, no seating area, no lift no staff it's just an outside door, a staircase and some rooms the room we had was about 12ft X10ft plus a small bathroom (the door wouldn't open fully it hit the bidet) rotten bathroom unit. the bedroom had a fridge, a plus you say, no it was a full size fridge and therefore in such a small room very noisy, there were no chairs, a faulty bedside electrical socket and a lot of noise from outside (it has a bar underneath ) the noise ended at about 1.00am BUT then began a whole series of other noises, ie street cleaning, garbage trucks, scrapings as of furniture being moved etc. free Wifi was advertised but it should have read Wifi free because in the 3 days we were there not once did we find any and at the hotel Torremar they gave us a load of codswallop about how they are having problems and an engineer would come tomorrow but when i asked if anyone else had mentioned it NO was the answer. so do not be tempted with the lower price pay the extra and stay at another hotel

TV. Aircon. Closed windows and no street noise heard. Bed comfortable and needed extra quilt provided. Good location. Value for money.

Appartement au rez de chaussée

Reviewed By om1952

Famille Ongenae
