The Hotel La Nivelle is a beautiful Basque house standing elegantly in the centre of the village of St Pée-sur-Nivelle, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees. La Nivelle is above all a family business where the pleasure of receiving guests and sharing with them the pleasures of the local Basque specialities has been a time-honoured tradition since 1910. The Nivelle is managed by brothers Pascal and Sebastien BERROTARAN, the 4th generation of the family, who have recently given the establishment a facelift. These changes have succeeded in preserving the character, while at the same time injecting a few modern touches.

Reviewed By john hHotel ideally placed in centre of town. Clean and comfortable with delicious breakfast and the evening meals were superbe. Rooms very clean and with enough space to be comfirtable. Very good staff. The waiter was excellent. Little mention - Pour la dame en charge du restaurant - Poke Bowls - l'original est en langue hawaïenne, pas en anglais !! Ahipoki Magic - les Français l'ont changé en Poke Bowls.

She has been very helpful on any question and request I had. The rooms are newly refurbished with contemporary design, very clean and were immaculately kept at the same standard on each day of my stay. The room I stayed in had a beautiful balcony which looks over the town and lush green around. Very good bathroom. Breakfast was good. There's a restaurant right across the street, offers nice menu with selection of Basque specialities, high quality ingredients, affordable, very friendly staff and great value for the money. Overall I had a wonderful and very comfortable stay and have experienced the true Basque hospitality. Thank you very much Marie Christine.

The best breakfast and one of the nicest places of our holidays
Reviewed By Swiss_kmoWe travelled through the Pays Basque and up towards Bordeaux along the Atlantic coast for our holiday and spent three days in this lovely place. This was definitely amongst our favourites. We enjoyed our room, the very nice common facilities (well equipped kitchen, outside and inside sitting area, coffee and tea facilities, even some digestives are provided free of cost.) It's a pity that it was too cold for the Swimming pool and the Jacuzzi, but we were there in early April, after all. As everyone else, we especially enjoyed the breakfast, with a different freshly cooked daily special everyday. The guide book the owner provides is very useful for finding places to eat and see, not just in the close proximity but also on the coast or in the mountain area. As this is an old farm building (you can see pictures of the status this was in before renovation in the breakfast room), ceiling heights are a bit low in some places, but my husband is close to 2 metres and where he fits, most people should have no problem at all. If we ever return to the area (and there is a lot more to see, so we might) we already know where we will stay.

Cute, quaint , cozy and comfortsble
Reviewed By sneaky229We stayed here during the 2nd last stage of le Tour de France. The location of Hotel is good. It was only 25min from San Sebastián airport. We rented a car. The rooms are small, but clean, the tv small, there was NO air conditioning in our room, so was very hot an night to sleep in July. Had a balcony, and the dinners were really good. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

A comfortable hotel in a charming, traditional town
Reviewed By Helen IWe really enjoyed our overnight stay at Hotel Arocena. The room was very clean and comfortable with a nice en suite bathroom. The lady on reception was very helpful and recommended places to visit. After we had left I realised I had left my cardigan there by mistake but she very kindly sent it on to me - very thoughtful!

Beautiful situation with wonderful views towards the mountains, spotless accommodation of a very high quality, excellent breakfasts on the patio. Best of all the warm and friendly welcome from Isabelle, from whom we learned much that was fascinating about this lovely part of the world and what it is like to live there.
