The best available hotels & places to stay near Reading

July 26, 2022 Tambra Mccollister

Reading, which gave its name to the Reading Railroad of Monopoly Fame, is located in the midst of Berks County, an area known for rich history amongst beautiful nature. The Greater Reading Area promises visitors the opportunity to experience a wide collection of covered bridges and Dutch folk barn art, and Berks County offers more intrepid explorers the chance to set off on a hike along the Appalachian Trail. Sitting atop Reading is the city's symbol, a massive pagoda, built as a hotel in 1908.

Two day stay more than enough

We chose this hotel because of (1) location, as it's not too far from the Reading Airport, for the World War II Weekend, and (2) for a reasonable price. Positive things: very comfortable king bed; clean surfaces in room; free Wi-Fi; free breakfast with a variety of choices; all personnel were polite. Negative things: small bathroom, with no sink; toilet didn't flush properly; slow Wi-Fi; love seat covered in what felt and sounded like thick plastic. And no one came to clean the room until very late in the afternoon, when we were back and trying to relax, I assume from staffing issues.

Is there a 10 star option? Everything you could want in a hotel! I have no idea how they found this many nice people with true hospitality in this day and age. “Sugar” will lead you to breakfast and make you eat - and you will thank her later. The best breakfast buffet ever. And it’s free. Not the best free continental, not the best hotel buffet, the best buffet. If you could see it you wouldn’t skip it. What’s your fav breakfast food? It’s there. Crispy bacon, hash browns from actual potatoes, fresh made omelettes! Actual.Nice.People. Everywhere! Front desk, cleaning, restaurant, bar. I have status with Hilton - and this is next level. Disney world style niceness. Free parking in the parking deck. Late check out? No problem. Can I have foam pillows? Sure, I will send 2 people to your room within 5 minutes to change the pillows and bedding. Business rooms were nice, and even the public bathrooms were clean. The style is beautiful. Everything is clean. Food is delicious. And did I mention the people are nice? Wish I had more reasons to come to Reading PA.

Check in and checkout was smooth and very quick. The hotel is clean. Great location tucked away from the main road so no outside noise. Room was very clean. If you call and ask for towels or washcloths they come so quick to deliver them to you. Breakfast was decent. Nothing amazing. Waffles, eggs, sausage, bread, pastries and a few other things. The women worked hard restocking everything. The pool is small but warm and clean. We didn’t use the workout area but it was full of kids one day anyway. Parking is easy and plentiful. You are very close to malls, restaurants, fast food, supermarkets. They are all within 5 minutes. I would stay there again in the future.

No Problems on Our Stay

Reviewed By NikaJunie

This hotel has recently received some of the worst reviews I have every read, but, honestly, everything was OK on our stay. Our room was clean and the electricity and hot water were fine. There were some children on our floor who were making noise, banging on doors, etc. but that is not the hotel's fault. However, the pool was closed because of Covid and the pancake machine was roped off, I assume to prevent people from gathering around it. The hotel is adjacent to the Reading Airport, but because planes don't usually take off and land at night, it's quiet during normal sleeping hours. A plus during the day is that one can sometimes see cool planes.

Bed bug infestation

Reviewed By ashleyaB797PC

Hotel was as expected, uncomfortable bed, thin blankets, dirty carpets, poorly lit exterior with damaged, blinking bulbs - things I would generally find charming when staying at a budget hotel. What was unexpected was waking up to bites on my forearms and torso, a beetle or roach in the bathroom sink - climbed between unsealed sink and countertop lip. Hotel staff was friendly and charming until accused of smoking marijuana in room - I work for a medicinal dispensary and have dreadlocks. I feel I was profiled by and discriminated against by staff in attempt to trump up charges and fees at failing establishment - hotel across the street being torn down. Manager Wilmer was accusatory about my statements regarding the bug infestation and unwilling to examine video footage of my smoking outdoors.
