Reviewed By earwig1000this is a hostal and a hotel-the hotel side was spotless with lovely rooms and with aircon-the proprietor was really friendly as were all the staff including his brother and mother-there was an excellent menu del dia on offer which was much appreciated after a long hike from Hontanas

A good hotel located next to a major road but still calm and quiet
Reviewed By reijobI come back here regularly and really like the place. The service is good, the room and bed great. Safe in the room, a desk to work at, a mini-bar, TV, good shower, toilet articles etc. The breakfast buffet is good, with both warm and cold food, and most things you can ask for. The only negative is that it’s almost impossible to regulate the room temperature. But there is a door/window you can open when it’s too warm.

Excellent stopover
Reviewed By Jayne PWe had the pleasure of staying at this lovely little hotel on our way from Portugal to the ferry at Bilbao. After an 8hr drive it is was just what we needed. With the current Coronavirus situation we deliberately wanted to avoid a large busy hotel and also to wanted to support a small independent business. A warm welcome with a glass of sangria awaited us, our room was warm and spotlessly clean with a large comfortable bed. We had a really nice 3 course dinner with an option of pork or fish and a bottle of excellent local red wine, unbelievably priced at 10€ each and 3€ for the wine Incredible value !!! A big bonus for us is that the hotel is dog friendly, they even allowed us to bring our dog into the dining room while we ate, something that has never happened at any other Spanish hotel we have stayed in. Another big plus is that they have their own car park. Our hosts didn’t speak English and we don’t speak Spanish but we managed to communicate. Sadly we had to leave very early the next morning so didn’t have breakfast. Overall it was a great stay at an excellent price, highly recommended.

a luxurious stay on the camino with best breakfast yet

I thought it wasn't very far from town and even after a day of walking on the camino was perfectly happy to walk back into the nice town (10 minutes ?) to look for food and walk around a little bit. The room felt luxurious with a refrigerator and a huge tub. The breakfast in the morning was a lovely buffet with eggs, cheese, cold cuts, breads and pastries, juice, coffee, fruit, etc. I found it quiet for sleeping. I would recommend it to friends it would stay there again in a heartbeat. It was simple luxury and the town suprisingly nice

A locale with a top notch management team and service provided by an ultra professional group of dedicated, well trained and highly motivated staff. The Doña Mayor Hotel is located 600 meters away from the emblematic church of San Martin, in the Camino de Santiago. Wonderful Camino refuge!
Reviewed By Laura KWe stayed here one night while hiking the Camino. Of the 12 hotels we have stayed in so far this trip, this was the best! Clean comfortable rooms, relaxing atmosphere, reflexology massage was available and they will do a load of laundry for 5 euros. Breakfast was amazing as well, fresh fruit, homemade yogurt, etc. Would definitely stay here again!

Everything great apart from our room
Reviewed By LindaH72We stayed for one night en route to Santander, and chose the hotel as it was conveniently en route. We paid €77 for B&B. Great buildings, really interesting and lots of history with friendly staff. Nice easy walk to the nearby dam if you want some fresh air. We ate in the restaurant for dinner, opting not to walk into town. The food was good and would have been cheaper had we chosen the set menu for €15, rather than selecting a la carte options. Little bits would have helped out the meal, like mint sauce with the lamb, and our dishes contained no vegetables. Breakfast was fine, no complaints. Other than hand alcohol gel and mask requirements, we didn’t see much in the way of covid cleaning. The dining tables were “cleaned” with furniture polish. The biggest concern was around our room (20). Fairly basic, weirdly we were given it for unnecessary disability access. It was a twin room and the bed bases were noisy, creaking loudly every time you turned over. However, that noise was nothing compared to our neighbours in room 21. We could literally hear every word they said, even when clearly whispering carefully in bed. They arrived into the room at 22:30, with a screaming/shouting 4-5 year old. And just didn’t stop having loud conversations until after 12:30am. Our ear plugs didn’t dull the noise at all, they may as well have been in our room. And they completely ignored our requests for them to quieten down. We mentioned the thinness of the walls to reception the following morning, and although he was apologetic, he said the whole place was the same. It’s not somewhere we’d stay again solely for that reason. Sleep is very important!

Reviewed By JCom_OsloWe had one room for three adults walking the Camino Frances: Good and quiet localisation. The room was big with good light. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast was minimalistic. Altogether very recommendable.

You Wont be Disappointed
Reviewed By NogtravellerWhat an excellent family hotel run by 2 helpful brothers. They arranged secure parking for our Harleys indoors with a nearby lift to our room. Everything was clean and tidy. No English was spoken but communication was not a problem. The meals are home-cooked and very tasty. Breakfast was adequate but simple. We stayed 2 nights and had an excellent touring day around the lakes and mountains of the nearby national park.
