Do not stay here!

Reviewed By Excursion480374

Stayed here for the location as it is near the University. Our family had 4 rooms here for a 2 night stay for graduation weekend. Two of the cement walled rooms were extremely small, had broken air conditioners, cigarette burns on the sink and toilet. There was no ice on the premises and bed was uncomfortable. The outside doors to two room did not fit in the frames so we’re difficult to open and when closed left a gap so that you could see outside. Although the people were nice and are slowly trying to improve the condition of this motel, a lot more basic improvements need to happen. The $605.00 charge per room for 2 nights was outrageous.

And the hotel SOLD THEIR ROOMS- and defended that they didn’t get proper notice - I even told them personally the day before when I checked in - housecleaning did not clean our room-bkfst too crowded to use- dirty sock in my bed sheets-ewe!!! I wanted to like this place but it’s run down and tired and Mia managed. Will not go there again.

Noisy Hotel in the Small Ohio Town That Never Sleeps

Reviewed By njdixiedarling

Just got back from a two night stay at The Elms while visiting my son for his fraternity parents weekend. I'll start with the good things first. Location is perfect if you want to be in walking distance to downtown and the campus. The lobby is nice. Bed was extremely comfortable and room was very clean. Now for the negative. My third floor room faced the alley on the side of the building. There was non-stop noise both nights (arrived back in my room both nights at 10pm) that consisted of yelling/talking from students, loud group singing, and clanging metal sounds from the restaurants putting trash in the dumpster. The noise lasted until 2:30am both nights and made it impossible to fall asleep. In addition to the outside noise, there were several hotel patrons that talked very loudly as they were walking down the hall to their rooms when it was well after midnight. Since there are positives with the hotel and because hotels are at a premium during busy times in Oxford this is still a good place to stay. I suggest bringing ear plugs or requesting a room that does not face the alley. Breakfast was a grab and go bag with packaged snacks. Parking is in the municipal lot across the street and is $8.00 a night.

Avoid this place

Reviewed By danab52

I wanted to take my son who will be senior next year to check out Miami University in Oxford so I booked this motel on Hotwire as I often do. I only ask for 3-star and up hotels so I didn't expect what I got. If there must be a star, I assume they'd have a 1. I checked in at the office where I was asked by a less than friendly clerk if I wanted a non-smoking room. When I told him I did, he informed me that there would be a $50 cash deposit required to be refunded at check out. I had no cash, so I opted for the smoking room which doesn't require a deposit. I also had to pay a $15 pet fee which is fine except that the sign on the door says it's $10. The location seemed rather seedy, so at first I thought there was a dead roach outside but then I realized the cicadas were out in full force so at least that wasn't a problem. But still, my teenagers aged 16 and 17 would not get out of the car. Based on the look of the place, I was also concerned about the room, so I didn't force them and went in to take a look around first. The room was clean enough, but I peeled back the covers on one of the beds and was greeted by a stain. The other bed had a stain on the mattress which I could see through the sheet. I dared not peel back the sheet for closer inspection. The bathroom was the worst part because the linens that were hanging up were dirty and there appeared to be mold on the ceiling. The shower area just looked nasty. I stood there for a long moment trying to determine if I could stay there as night fell because I'd already paid for it, but I could not imagine being in that place in the dark. We went up the street to Butler Inn which I think is also 1-star, but a vast improvement and even though it was only up the street I felt safer. Maybe because the staff was friendlier or the outside was nicer. I'm not sure. I took the key back to the office at Budget and just dropped it off. There are no refunds with Hotwire and there was a No Refund sign posted in the office window, so I didn't even bother talking with anyone. I don't think that this motel should even be on Hotwire because it gives them a bad name. At the very least, it should be 1-star -- definitely not 3.
