Expecting a great stay

Reviewed By southernbelle007

We had communicated with the hotel before our stay, and had asked for dinner reservations at the hotel, and lunch reservations at Le Fromage qui Rit. When we arrived we were shown to our room which had a beautiful river view. It was spacious, with a tub, shower combo. All was going alone fairly smoothly until we dressed for dinner that evening on the terrace of the hotel. I had checked with the receptionist at checkin and she informed us that our dinner reservations had not be made by the staff, but they could fit us in. We sat on bar stools outside and waited and waited for someone to place our drink order. Finally, we were served and waited and waited agin for a free table. The staff was scurrying back and forth trying to keep up and looked totally "in the weeds". We were not impatient or demanding in the least, but would have appreciated a drink refill or an update. After about an hour, still no drinks, We decided to cut our losses. It was almost 9:00 pm and most other dinner options were closed. I mentioned to the bar staff that I felt that they should give us the first drink free, since we had waited so long and been completely ignored. They had not offered, but did not charge us for the drinks. Here's where the fun begins. The only place we could find to eat was the Rendezvous a local outdoor gathering place with a take-out pizza parlor next door. I had on a dressy dress and heels, but felt okay since we were at least getting some dinner. The waiter and owner of the Rendezvous were so very courteous and pleasant. Since their menu was very limited, just snacks, we were allowed to order pizza next door and eat on their outdoor tables. It was a truly fun experience! I really think the Moulin needs a lot more organization and attention to detail. This was not the worst of it: on the morning of our departure we awoke to no water at all and no estimate as to when it would be restored. We never found out exactly what happened, but we left post haste without showering. I'm sad that a stay which could have been so memorable turned out so poorly. The town of Moissac is really picturesque and friendly. Post script there was a safe, but it didn't work!

Lovely renovated French house.....no a home...... in southwest France. Yet a classically Irish family welcome. Pleasant comfortable family room for three nights, with en-suite bathroom, and a perfect breakfast.

Used to visit once or twice a week

Because we live locally we used to visit regularly. The terrace is very nice and the apero type early evening menu was good especially as we are vegetarian. We have taken friends on several occasions. Last July we visited with a neighbour. The proprietor supplied us with an awful lot of melon. The second lot was very unceremoniously banged down onto the table. Manchego cheese was also supplied. It was very very thinly sliced. 4 slices of stale bread were also supplied. We were charged full price for this. If she had charged half normal price she would have made a big profit. On top of this the proprietor shouted at us. I have not done a review until now because I thought we might visit again but life is too short to be treated like this even if the terrace is nice. Go elsewhere. A far better hotel is the Armateur. It is beautiful.

A Very Bad Experience - AVOID AT ALL COST !

My wife and I chose this hotel for a stopover on our way to Bordeaux as we had stayed there in 2003 and found it very pleasant. Unfortunately it has changed hands and things are now very different. We arrived just after 2pm and asked if there was any food to be had to which the owner replied that we could have soup and some fruit. The soup portions were very small and served in a little pate type jar and the fruit was just a few pieces of chopped melon, strawberries and a fig. We also had a very small glass of rose wine. The room was very basic, there were no bedside lights, no hairdryer and no other frills whatsoever. The owner produced a hairdryer but no heat came out of it ! When we complained about this he just laughed. The choice at breakfast was very poor and certainly not worth 9 euros per person. We were astonished when it came time to check out and pay the bill as we had been charged 30 euros for the 2 little jars of soup, 20 euros for the 2 small plates of fruit and 10 euros for the 2 small glasses of wine, totalling 60 euros - this was a total rip off !! When I questioned the bill, the lady at reception told me that it was a la carte !! It certainly was not a la carte and these words had never been mentioned when the owner offered it to us. However as we were in a hurry we just paid the bill and left. I would strongly recommend to avoid this hotel like the plague as you will be ripped off and taken for a fool by the "hail fellow well met" owner. We lived in France for 6 years and have travelled extensively over the years in France and we have never experienced such shoddy treatment in any other hotel. I wouldn't even give it a 1 star rating although his prices for food are 5 star ! BE WARNED !!!!
