The best available hotels & places to stay near Lake Geneva

August 4, 2022 Sachiko Swiger

Take a long deep breath and kiss your stresses good-bye: this lovely, year-round resort town offers a laid-back atmosphere that lets you slowly unwind. Beach buffs can don their swimsuits and head for one of several beaches on seven-mile-long Geneva Lake, which also offers a plethora of water sports. Leisurely cruises on restored historic yachts and replicas of paddle wheel steamers carry passengers past stately lakefront summer mansions, including some Victorian estates. Landlubbers can take a self-guided hike around the perimeter of the lake, which stretches some 21 miles. Laid-back, however, doesn't mean there isn't plenty to do. Choose from museums, a water park for younger kids, the world's largest refracting telescope at Yerkes Observatory, entertainment at the Belfry Music Theatre or greyhound racing. Winter is even quieter but no less filled with fun. Head to The Mountain Top, a popular family ski spot, or choose from horseback riding, skating, ice boating, hayrides or sleigh rides. Whatever time of year you go, Lake Geneva will charm you.

We had just moved from the Grand Geneva and a bad experience. This room was great. Big TV, Nice comfortable king bed. Clean. A great nights sleep! Hot water! There was a huge party young people party going on in the breakfast room that night. I asked when it would end. Desk said it would be all over at 10. True to their word, everything ended at 10 and all was quiet. Well run motel.

Good experience

My wife and I stayed here for her birthday. It was a surprise for her, but when she walked into our lake view room, she was so happy with everything. Our room was clean and tidy; it was comfortable and upscale. The view of the lake from our balcony was fantastic. The staff was pleasant, and our bartender Kade made some great drinks for us during happy hour. Our overall experience with The Geneva Inn was great. We plan on going back.

Unfortunate start turned great!

We booked a spontaneous trip to Grand Geneva for Memorial Day weekend to get away from home for a couple days. We booked a suite to accomodate our family of four. Prior to departing for our trip, we received a call from Caitlyn telling us that the air-conditioing in our room was broken and that no other suites were available. She offered to put us in a 3-bedroom villa for the inconvenience with no change in price. We really wanted to be in the main lodge for the convenience and access to the pool, restaurants, and other activiites. However, the stay in the Villa was exceptional, and surprisngly very convenient and accessible. Caitlyn also provided some additional indulgences to make our stay very memorable. Highly recommend the Grand Geneva for standing behind their satisfaction guarantee. Caitlyn also deserves a huge thank you!

The hotel is located downtown Lake Geneva in the middle of everything and just a few blocks from the beach. The staff was very nice and helpful. We arrived a few hours early, we were unable to check in but they did allow us the park our car and were very helpful on explaining how to walk to the beach.

Spacious Accommodations

Had a GREAT time spending a weekend with friends in the cottages at Geneva National Resort and Club. The accommodations included a spacious living room, dining room and rec room, a complete kitchen and four individual private bedrooms with full baths. It was St. Patrick’s Day weekend and the Turf Smokehouse had an Irish Buffet and an Irish band. The food and service were fantastic and the band was enjoyable. Would consider coming back during the summer to take advantage of the 3 golf courses. I would recommend it to friends.

Fantastic all around!

Me and my wife recently had an opportunity to stay at the ridge. We had a chance to get away for a night let me tell you it was a great choice. The rooms were very sleek and modern. Had a homey feel, very clean and very friendly front desk attendant take made us feel so welcome. We chose to eat in crafted Italiana the local restaurant in the hotel and we enjoyed every second of it. Of the amazingly friendly bartender and he was very hospitable and just overall made sure that we were having a great time. She was definitely one of the highlights of our stay. Spent a little time in the pool relaxing, then had a great night's rest. Would absolutely recommend anyone be coming into this area if you don't feel like being stuck in the busyness of Lake Geneva but still want all the amenities that you would find in any of the other resorts the ridge is a great choice for you or for your family.

2 Nights in June at The Cove

Reviewed By Getaway37364522653

While service was good, and the cleanliness provide by staff was also very good, the Commodore Suite I stayed in has not been updated since The Cove opened in 1996. The HVAC system and bathroom ventilation were inadequate for removing humidity from the room, and the musty air kicked my mold allergy into high gear. The peeling wallpaper borders, chipped paint, carpeting, well-worn chairs and couch had to all be original to 1996. I realize the suites are privately owned as noted on the hotel’s website, and each suite is uniquely decorated, but I did expect the room to have been updated at some points during the past 25 years. Other family members staying in suites at the same time had much more updated accommodations. Definitely not worth the $500 I paid for 2 nights, but it was convenient to the lakeshore and Main Street, and the pools were well maintained as was the lobby and coffee bar.

Birthday stay .... NOT WORTH IT

Reviewed By kellyoD4864MJ

My family came here for my daughter's birthday. I added a birthday surprise package ($30 extra ... and for my daughter I don't mind spending that money IF it is worth it). The birthday package was an 8 x 11 piece of paper printed with the words Happy Birthday (which I could have made at home for free) and in the room were a few stickers, dollar tree toys and stampers that were half open and half dry. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. The front desk staff was short and very rude *with the exception of one new girl who was being trained (she was the only helpful employee with a smile). We asked for water because the water machines were empty and the front desk acted completely put out to have to walk in the back for a bottle of water. If you want a fun relaxing good time with lots of amenities and a clean water park this is not it. The towels and dishes in our room looked dirty. The staff was cold and rude and completely did not care that we were disappointed with the birthday package. Just completely disappointed all the way around. None of the shops or restaurants were open on a Monday and no one could give me a clear answer on if and when they would open during our stay. A daycation stay with children 3 and under would be the only way I would come back here .... and honestly it is just not worth the money
