The best available hotels & places to stay near Lahaina

August 4, 2022 Margarita Chappel

Lahaina, the former Hawaiian capital, was the center of the global whaling trade, and its Historic District is a National Historic Landmark. Traditional Hawaiian luaus, surf lessons and tours on horseback are fun, but let’s be realistic—you wouldn’t be in Hawaii if you didn’t want to go to the beach. Try Ka’anapali Beach, one of Maui’s best.

We had a wonderful time on our honeymoon. The Hyatt is a great location and was very clean. Room was beautiful and modern. Food was all good - my husband was obsessed with the Korean Style wings. I loved the hummus and goat cheese. Drinks were delicious - maybe a little weak at times, but make it a double! Why not?

The only area for improvement that we had was we thought it is ridiculous when paying to eat in restaurant for refills on sodas when they charge that much in first place. Sofa was a little dated but loved the view and room as a hole

Memorable Maui

Stayed here on a holiday with my wife for 4 nights. Rooms are a decent size although our room #150 was a little walk away from the main resort area. The room itself was well equipped with microwave , large fridge / freezer & crockery. A negative for us was that the room was not cleaned or serviced once during our 4 night stay while they still charged a resort fee. Location is fantastic for a beach holiday with amazing sunsets at no extra cost. The resort has two pools and hot tubs on site and has free car parking too. All in all it was a nice place to stay at a reasonable price.

Great place but a bit of confusion

Stayed for 10 nights at the end of May 2022. Booked 3 nights in the tower with an ocean view and 7 nights in one of the oceanfront cottages. The first 3 nights were good, the view was fantastic. The room itself was a bit small for a family of 4 though, there was no separation from the main room into the bathroom so no real privacy which makes it tough when you want the kids to sleep in. The beds were comfortable enough but small. After the first 3 nights we were ready to move into the cottage. We booked a deluxe oceanfront studio with is over 700 square feet and has a kitchen. Prior to arrival I had emailed the front desk a few times to confirm that we were ground floor oceanfront with a kitchen, never did they tell me that wasn't to be the case. The issue is that all of the ground floor rooms are smaller (around 375 square feet I think) and they do NOT have a kitchen. The upstairs room that they wanted to put us ion only has a small deck at the front of it which does not face the ocean. To see the ocean at all you need to look out the windows but you cant sit outside with the view which we did not want at all. After talking with the front desk we arranged to move to the smaller ground floor unit with the oceanfront patio. This is a smaller room with no kitchen so our plans to buy food to cook were out the door, we had to eat out for every meal as the ground floor unit has only a small beer fridge. We definitely got the sense that they mislead us and just want to get you there and they they deal with the issues, felt very sneaky. We got a slight discount taking the new room but nowhere near the extra we had to spend eating out. All that aside once we were settled in the ground floor room we loved it. The patio has a beautiful Ocean view and we could go from our private patio and be in the ocean in less than 30 seconds. My 12 year old actually timed it once and got there in 12 seconds running! The room is not big but the layout is better than the hotel tower as the bathroom is bigger and more private for changing without disturbing those who are sleeping. 2 double beds which is tight for a family of 4 but we made it work. The grounds are great, the restaurant is great, the drinks are great but expensive at $15 a drink. We used the pools a bit, they are fine but really nothing special. The ocean is the main draw here. It looks to be the best stretch of beach in the area, its truly awesome and the nightly sunsets cant be beat. The waves were enough where the kids could have some fun getting knocked around but nothing too crazy for the most part. Everything extra is a charge here, You want an umbrella on the beach for the day? $30...you want a 2 seater with a cover for the day? $65...etc...nothing is free here really but we knew Maui was expensive! A nice 15 minute walk one way down to Black Rock/Whalers Village area and about 20 minutes the other way to a nice stretch of hotels with bars, restaurants etc...we got around by Uber if we wanted to go farther out and it was never a problem. All in all an awesome stay but be aware of what room you are getting. I have also emailed the hotel for a detailed bill a few days ago but haven't heard back yet. Royal Lahaina can you please send me that? thanks

Beautiful Hotel

Overall a really great hotel in Maui. Location - a little far from the main airport & they don’t offer a shuttle (~50 minutes). It’s right on the beach & located right next to the mall. So there are plenty of restaurants & shops nearby making the location ideal. Rooms - our room was clean & updated. The view from our room was beautiful. Bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. Lanai Access - so worth the extra money. We booked our room in their new tower which automatically gave us access to this lounge. They had complimentary breakfast and happy hour bites. I didn’t have high hopes but it turned out to be delicious. The adult only pool is also nice & quiet. Lots of great place to sit in the shade to enjoy a drink at the private bar. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Napili Sunset Beachfront Resort

NAMED ONE OF THE TOP 10 BEACH FRONT HOTELS IN THE WORLD BY FROMMERS, Napili Sunset is different from most hotels; Napili Sunset is quite literally, on the beach. Napili Sunset’s two story Kanani and Kekalani buildings house 26 units which open to an elevated lawn with a commanding view of Napil Bay, the islands of Molokai and Lanai, and spectacular sunsets over the Pacific Ocean. Napili Sunset is on Napili Bay, a quarter mile long and crescent shaped, the bay forms a beach with warm golden sand and inviting blue waters. Reefs protect the beach from large waves and provide a home for colorful tropical fish, sea turtles and beautiful coral. Napili beach is widely recognized as one of the best beaches in all of Hawaii.

Some Rooms are Smaller and Dated.

Reviewed By teeville51

This is a nice resort that has three buildings. Two buildings are on the beach and seem to have larger rooms, but the third building is across the road. The room we were assigned was across the road. The main bed in that room was a Murphy bed (folds into the wall). I don’t believe the bed is operable for folding up, but the hotel has left the walls around the bed (see photo). This prevents having a nightstand or lamp needed for phones, clocks and CPAP. Uncomfortable situation. That structure around the beds should be removed as they have no function. The description I received from the booking agency stated the room had a queen bed and a fold up bed… totally wrong and misleading. On a positive note, the bedding was comfortable. The room has a small air conditioner. The personnel were quite friendly.
