Grand manor house in need of a little TLC.
Reviewed By KentMrsHDomaine De La Gressiere looks very grand. The reception area, restaurant, main staircase and pool are also in keeping with this impression. Our room was comfortable, there was a bath in the bathroom which is a bonus and the toiletries smelt wonderful. We were directed to our room via a gloomy back staircase then along a very narrow, dark corridor. The room was just a bit tired with the wallpaper starting to peel in places; nothing too bad but not as we imagined. The restaurant was not open as on Thursdays they have 'After the Beach' parties which are open to the public. There was a DJ and a barbecue with oysters and cheese available. It would have been nice to have known this although, that being said, the food was very good and we enjoyed 'people watching' as there was a clear distinction between the mostly bemused looking guests and the youngsters who had come for the party!

Small hotel with great view of the ocean
Reviewed By ElocinIlaI had booked for 2 nights the "Chambre de charme - #2 Chambre double vue mer". I arrived one day earlier as planned and booked directly at the reception the last room available for the night, a small single room. The receptionist was friendly, helpful and showed me the room. It was very small, perfectly clean, comfortable bed but the downside was the noise from the other rooms. My room with the balcony was perfect, also very clean plus a modern bathroom and the lovely balcony (deck chair, small table and chair) with great view of the ocean. The walls in that part of the hotel must be different, as there was hardly any noise. I did not have breakfast or any other meal in the restaurant as the terrasse had been closed (outside the season apprently only serviced on the weekends) and I wanted to sit outside.

In a wooded and landscaped 5-hectare area (311 sites) in south Brittany, north Vendee, in the heart of the Atlantic coast and close to Pornic and Noirmoutier, the 4 star campsite Les Ecureuils (the Squirrels) in La Bernerie en Retz is open from April to September. A 350 m from a sandy beach and 400 m from the village downtown, you can get around on foot or by bike ... Friendliness and simplicity are the masterwords at the campsite Les Ecureuils ! Our heated pool area with covered swimming pool, jacuzzi, fountains, relaxation under the sun, opens its doors from May 1 to September 15.
Got it wrong!
Reviewed By GailandPaulHillRecommended by a friend but quickly realised we were at the wrong Les Ecureuils and should have been further down the coast. weather cold and windy heated pools not that warm but great pool complex with plenty of beds!. Children's play area by reception so was too far to allow our daughter to cycle there on her own as it was also by the entrance barriers. Great walk to town with good selection of shops and restaurants. Great market with local produce, supermarket very expensive. Great man made bay with sandy beach with some water sports available. Great for early morning oyster picking. Shop on site poor, bar expensive but food good. Shower blocks were good but pitches were poor. Felt like I was on a grass verge on a busy street. The pitches were filled from corner to corner with caravan, awnings, tents and commercial vans. Fresh water located near waste. A trip init Pornic lifted our spirits and is well worth a visit with an array of shops and restaurants. Not likely to return.

7 km from Pornic and the Breton marsh, a great place for fishing on foot, a simple and inexpensive hobby that combines relaxation and gastronomic pleasure, you find oysters, mussels, clams and shrimps depending on the season. Walking and cycling are pleasant and invigorating.

Reviewed By Mandi172015I can’t say enough about this wonderful place. It was delightful. Our room was on the first floor with a lovely balcony all the way round. It also had a small kitchen with all the necessities available. Much more than we needed. Lots of space for sitting and relaxing as well as a good size bathroom with a powerful shower. Ladies, a hairdryer is provided, but if you are a bit choosy take your own. It’s not the most powerful in the world and a little awkwardly shaped. We had the evening meal, our hosts were generous with the food and very generous with the wine. We had a very pleasant evening, and as usual were joined by our hosts and also their daughter and partner who were also visiting. The next morning we were overwhelmed by the breakfast, it was enormous. A plate of fresh fruit, bread, pastries, home made cake, ham, cheese, yogurt and we were even offered an egg. Needless to say we hardly made a dent in it. Our host then said that she would put all on another plate for us and we could have it later when we came in. As we had a fridge in the room, it was great. This was a exceptional place to stay, and two more delightful hosts you couldn’t wish to meet.

Ok for one night
Reviewed By michaelaerikaWe booked this only a few hours before our arrival. It was advertised with free parking and check-out at 10:30 the following morning. Upon arrival we were told the only parking available was down the road in a public car park and that we had to check out at 10 in the morning. And exactly at 10:06, just as we were about to leave, there was a knock at the door ..... Room was clean and basic and not as noisy as I thought considering our room faced the front. The lovely beach is just round the corner.
