Good hotel, close to beach

Nice hotel with many rooms facing the gardens (and two smallish pools). Beware of rooms facing the parking lot. Beautiful beach but waves can be too rough to swim. Room was decent size, with patio with 2 chairs and small table, ideal for a drink before dinner. Room had coffee machine, fridge, safe etc. Bathroom was big but sparsely furnished. Reception staff efficient and helpful. Parking can be a problem late afternoons, but 'free' valet parking (a tip is expected) is available. The Lava Lava restaurant is supposed tonbe good, as they don't take reservations and suggested to show up at 4:30 for dinner to avoid long waiting time, we didn't try it out. Overall a very reasonably (for Hawaii standards) priced abode.

Great place for staying in Kauai

We are back a second time to the Aston islander! This is a condo owned 120 unit hotel. The rooms are studio w microwave toaster coffee maker Kurerig and mini refrigerator. They provide coffee shampoo and body wash soap and all the towels you need. The bees are king and both trips very comfortable. AC unit is good and many like ours have lanai w ocean views. Free DVD each day which we don’t use and 3 grills that they don’t seem to maintain. The grills seem like 20 year old but work efficiently as we love fish and buy 1-2 lbs every 3 days. We overall rate this Aston pretty well and believe you’ll have a very nice time! Beach is good clean and swimming is nice. They have a bar by the pool we don’t use and mostly I want to get wet in ocean. Lighting in the rooms are good and a free Cable and WiFi the workers at front desk and maids are very nice and kind. No free newspaper anymore and maid service is no longer daily which is fine. They also provide news sponge and soap to wash dishes which are also supplied! What you’ll need is a hat, flip flops and sunblock?

You get what you pay for. If you just need a place to stay with a kitchen and sleep, hopefully without too much noise from the upstairs neighbors or hallways, then this will do. the pools are okay. The beach is across the street and down the path. It will do as long as your not looking for luxury of any kind. It's not the Motel 6, but it's not the Hyatt either. If you book through AirBnB, you'll be booking through some management company, and so on, so be aware of who you are booking with. They want to charge for everything. Again, it's not horrible, but it's not the Hyatt either. And you might need to call and ask because we thought we were getting a tub and we ended up with a shower only.

Great location. Needs maintenance. LOUD AC.

Reviewed By macjenna

I have a conflicting opinion. It needs maintenance. Badly. It's like the red headed step child of "resorts". Because it's not a resort and it's trying to be. It's a hotel in Hawaii with two pools near a public beach, and an outside TiKi bar with decent food. It DESPERATELY needs a coffee sales cart in the lobby from 5-11 AM. Staff was friendly - they did forget to deliver water to our room Cats and roosters plentiful LOL Open air lobby is stunning Mamahunes - Lunch and dinner restaurant-- strong MaiTais, great pork nachos and GET the giant fruit salad. We took half of it back to our cottage for breakfast the next day. Bartender way overworked and prob under paid but charming and fast. We were in a cottage facing the grassy area of Lydgate Park. The beach here was incredible. And easy to get to. AC in the bedroom was SO LOUD and OLD it kept us awake. And my hubby can sleep through just about everything. A Keurig coffee maker in the room - ew. And fake half and half was all over the hotel. We resorted to milk in the restaurant. Restaurant breakfast was okay. Great service. Meh coffee on Hawaii. Old bacon. Roosters at 4 AM and those chickens are pushy. Room- so odd. Plenty of space. New windows and floors. New baseboards and paint. No bugs. OLD AC. Musty smell in room. Nice shower - a bit of mold here. Room darkening curtains. Weird purple wall in bathroom. Not enough places to hang towels. When you start to really look you can see the place needs structural overhauls in some places. Not sure we'd be back but the location to the airport and town makes it the Maybe.

Very nice and clean hotel

Reviewed By xanderhargis

Okay so I am back reviewing and posting on TripAdvisor. I am unbiased and tell it like it is. Hotel Coral Reef is a 27 room hotel in the city of Kapaa, Kauai. The hotel sits centered around restaurants and shops. Hotel Coral Reef is clean, quiet (except for the roosters). The friendly staff were very comforting to any of my needs. The hotel is steps from the beach. I preferred some of the beaches north of the hotel in Hanalei or of course the Na Pali coast. Uber/Lyft are expensive and unreliable my personal experience. The island has a great bus system, only $4/ each way to/from Lihue Airport. Check bus schedules for the times and stops for exact services. The hotel also has bikes for use. A clean tropical pool with a waterfall and floral beauty as it shadows you from the sun. The rooms are spacious with excellent TV channels to watch, sorry no pay channels like HBO, MAX, Hulu,Netflix you get the picture. Wifi is free and you can even do your laundry. Washer is $2 for a load and the dryer is free. Tide powder detergent is only $1 per small box. No softener sheets or liquid. Parking is free for guests and NO RESORT FEES!!! Finally Peggy Sue makes the Best Banana Bread on the island and is a joy to speak with. Alicia and her husband are very friendly and just overall cool people. All of the information provided by me is as of March 2022 services and/or details about the property can change. Mahalo and enjoy Paradise. Happy-go-lucky traveling. Sorry I don't have any pictures but TripAdvisor should have plenty.

From charming, newly-renovated guest rooms to a variety of on-site activities and amenities, The ISO offers an experience you can carry with you forever.

Great Kapa'a Stay!

Pros: The hotel looks like it was recently renovated and for the location and price it was exactly as I expected. The woman at the first desk was very friendly and was able to give us early check-in which was very helpful. Rooms were clean and spacious, beds were comfortable, pillows were just okay. Rooms have a mini fridge and coffee maker. The rooms were nicely decorated with a beachy theme. There are plenty of plugs and USB outlets in the room. The bathroom was a good size with a bathtub and lots of counter/storage space. The balcony was ocean front with a view of the lawn and pool. The pool was nice and you can get beach towels from the front desk. There are bicycles available to borrow from reception also. The location is nice, beach front, and walking distance to many stores and restaurants. We did not have breakfast at the hotel, so cannot comment on that. Overall, The Iso suited our needs! Cons: There is not an elevator if you are on the second floor. The room did not have a lock on the door that couldn't be opened from the outside, I always prefer there to be a more secure lock. It was not as issue, but that does help me sleep better. The wifi was weak, but manageable. The on-site restaurant did not allow you to only have a drink at the bar, you had to order food, which was odd. We went into town for dinner and thought it would be nice to have a drink and sit outside afterwards, but sadly could not.

Perfect Room Perfect View

I absolutely loved our Room 324! The view of the ocean is gorgeous. The updates that were done in the room & bathroom are wonderful and gorgeous. I felt very "at home" and comfortable in this room - not at all like a stale generic pale blah hotel room. Instead the paint colors are pretty & cozy. The furniture is great between the large dress, table area, and work desk. The kitchenette has a nice counter work area with the microwave & other items out of the way on a shelf. The bathroom is updated with pretty tile, a great medicine cabinet to keep things off the counter, and great updates. The tv is wonderfully large sized. This will definitely be my room again if I ever come back to Kauai. :)
