Clean but few amenities

First the pro…very clean. For the cons, Wi-Fi was poor and could only use when standing by front desk on first floor. Unable to make a cell phone call from anywhere in the hotel. Not the fault of the hotel but town was dilapidated. Quite a few boarded up buildings, limited restaurant options.

Nice clean and warm

Reviewed By Victoria W

We stayed here for a night in a two bed suite. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with hot water and heat working perfectly. The kitchen was old but had ample kitchen accessories. The beds were comfortable and bedding very clean and warm. The suite was much larger than the photos showed. This motel was excellent value for money. We would definitely stay again. The little town was friendly with a gas station, nice sandwich/breakfast shop and a couple of restaurants.

Soda Butte Lodge

Cooke City is situated in the Beartooth Absaroka mountains. Accessible via Montana Hwy 212 Beartooth Scenic Highway, Chief Joseph Scenic Hwy 296 and Yellowstone National Park. Soda Butte Lodge is located on Main Street in the center of town. Our 32 guest rooms are located on two floors of the motel. We are also, the only full service motel in Cooke City with 3-meal restaurant and sports bar full liquor. The large lobby is a great place to relax, by the fireplace or by the windows to "people watch", play cards, read or visit with friends. We are just 3 1/2 miles from the north east entrance to Yellowstone National Park and the infamous Lamar Valley where "wolf watching" is very popular. The area is ideal for wildlife viewing, horseback riding, fishing, hiking, 4 wheeling and many photo-ops. Winter in Cooke City is unlike no other. Extreme snowmobiling, snowboarding and cross country skiing at its' finest. Winter, the lodge, is only accessible through Yellowstone Park (Mammoth) or drive over Chief Joseph to Pilot Creek parking lot and snowmobile in the last 9 miles. Our area is rich in the things money can't buy: history, beauty, wildlife and hospitality.

Good beds but outdated

Reviewed By rlwmt

The hotel was outdated. The rooms had new furniture and nice beds but the carpet was old and stained. The hallways were in major need of painting. The lobby was dark and furniture looked old. There is an odd smell when you walk into the lobby. We did not want to eat there. The owners were very courteous.

This quaint mountain town is nestled in the heart of the Beartooth Mountains just 3 miles from Montana's highest peak in the Rocky Mountain range. Our resort is the largest and most private in Cooke City, boasting a beautiful, historic lodge, built in 1913 which is situated just off main street in town. Nice place! Friendly Housekeeping Staff.

We stayed for several nights and enjoyed this easy-going, western style motel with cabins. We stayed in a roomy, VERY CLEAN, motel style room that had a TV and limited wifi access. The bed was great. Wifi is spotty every where in the Wy mountains so that's not a problem for us. I truly enjoyed the super friendly housekeeping staff. I really wish their lodge restaurant had been open but understand the staffing issues. Also wish this motel or the town of Cooke had a laundry. Also I really needed ice and had to buy it at the convenience store, so ice on site would have been very helpful - or an in- room refrigerator in the motel rooms. I understand the cabins have tiny kitchens which would have been great. But overall I would rate this motel as very good and a great place to stay close to the park while in Cooke City. I appreciated the family friendly atmosphere very much. Also kudos to the staff for the lovely flowers and flower pots on site - very pretty alpine feel to the whole place!

We go to Yellowstone once a year, we have been staying at High Country for many years, I cannot say enough good things, the owners are marvelous and the hotel is perfect for us. They have been doing many updates over the years and it just gets better every year. Shout out to Brandon and Paige for a job well done, also can’t forget Pip, Chewy and Digger.
