Welcoming hotel after tiring first day journey
Reviewed By MikeyG53Our first night on our France 2019 tour and we were so glad to see this hotel come into view. We had been up since 04:45 (BST) and it was now 14:30 (BST). First impressions were good as the hotel had generous grounds with ample private parking with some shade. The entrance to the hotel revealed a reception desk and a lady with a welcoming smile. We identified ourselves and we were shown to our room. The room was in a separate accommodation block to the hotel but that was not particularly a problem. We did all the usual exchanges of questions and information. By the time we had unpacked showered and dressed we were ready to have a pre-dinner stroll in the town. The room facilities were good TV (not used), shower and separate WC were clean and functioned well. On the occasions that we called for service this was provided promptly and with a smile. The bed was really comfortable and we did manage to sleep quite well despite a flashing street light. This light was a sodium type and was within 5 metres of our windows. The light was very strong but intermittently dimmed only to come back fully on. The main road to side road junction remained quite busy at all hours; so, we were often awakened particularly by powerful motorbike engines as they (always seen to do) roar away at breakneck speeds. We had assumed the Centre-Ville at C-G was based around the site of the original town bridge over the River Mayenne. We did however find out the hard way that the cultural and commercial centre is well away from the river and a good 10 minutes of medium-hard climb by foot from the town bridge. Once there in the centre we found a small bar for a pre-dinner drink and then out and back-down the other side of the hill and down to our restaurant. We particularly found the gardens by the river close to the new bridge to be very attractive and more (but ancient gardens) at the foot of the château wall to be of interest too. Our stay at the hotel lasted two nights and, in that time, we had excellent service and some very pleasant local Chardonnay wine (only very slightly oaked). The breakfasts were 12€ each and this is good if you are hungry, because there were cold meats, hard-boiled eggs, croissant and pain-au-chocolat, breads (with toasting facilities), preserves, and cereals, plus teas, coffee and orange juice. If, however you just want a croissant and a drink it is an expensive option to breakfast here. Overall it was a very pleasant stay and we came away saying that we would be well pleased if every hotel on our trip was as good as this one had been.

Reviewed By HorseabroadWonderful hotel for a stopover-or longer- in a pretty and lively town, close to riverside walks. Very helpful, cheerful and bi-lingual management. Bright and airy rooms, with good private parking. Excellent breakfast too! No negatives here, just a great place to stay.

Great little chateau with pool - secluded
Reviewed By andy_scot_ukI enjoyed staying here. The decor is amazing. It's secluded so no shops or rstaurants within walking distance. Good price to stay in such large rooms and have a pool. There is a machine to dispence beer and water.

Propreté, calme, confort, petit déjeuner" Maison " , situation à 2 pas du centre ville, accueil des propriétaires au Top... Bref, endroit à recommander pour découvrir la charmante ville de Château Gontier avec son centre ville historique au bord de la Mayenne. À signaler, très bon rapport qualité-prix. À recommander chaudement !

Reviewed By Mélaine BLes Perrettes se méritent après le "raidillon" en vélo quand on quitte le chemin de halage... mais quel endroit joli quand on y arrive! Bâtisse très bien rénovée et la déco est de bons gouts! La chambre est très confortable et spacieuse! Que dire de l'accueil? très sympathique! Un délicieux petit déjeuner là encore dans un endroit très joli : des matériaux choisis avec gout et la vue sur le jardin est splendide! On a adoré! A refaire! Merci :)
