Having driven halfway down France and the best option for food being McDonalds on the peage. ( huge mistake ) we arrived at the hotel to find A) secure gated parking B) the traditional hand sanitiser within 3 m wherever you are C) since restaurants are all closed, a takeaway 3 course meal of jambon and salad with a light cheese mousse, duck with lentils and pomme de terre and enough desserts to scare me, followed by a wee chocolate and some seriously pungent cheese D) a bottle of local house white which turned out to be very good I really look forward to returning and seeing what the chef can do when we sit down in the restaurant if that was a takeaway.

VERY NICE NEW YEAR'S EVE WITH FRENCH TRADITION

Reviewed By Luxury_Liner1

We were visiting the region for holidays and had issues finding a nice restaurant where to spend New Year's Eve. A little bit worried about the very familial and traditional ambiance at first (e.g. sound animation feeling sometimes like in a village fair), we actually had a very nice evening thanks to the wonderful attitude of the staff and the manager (she was very kind), the joyful spirit of the evening and the great food. A really nice place.

Clos Des Campanules

A superb stay in the heart of the Haute-Loire

Reviewed By Marcia H

The town of Brioude dates back to Roman times. Michele Lieurade, the owner of Clos des Campanules, has created, in her beautiful home, a place from which to explore a culturally rich part of France. From Brioude, one can visit a number of hill towns and Romanesque churches. Two of the "plus beaux villages de France" are within a few kilometers of Brioude. Somehow, despite the beauty and cultural richness of the area, the towns are not overrun by tourists. Returning in the late afternoon, we would relax by the pool before venturing out for dinner. In the mornings, we awoke to a spectacular sight from our bedroom window before heading down for a delicious breakfast in Michele's welcoming breakfast room. If one wants to practice one's French, it is a good place to do it though Michele is a fluent English speaker. One of our most memorable meals in all of our visits in France was lunch at Origines, a 30 minute drive from Brioude. Brioude was one of the stops on the Tour de France this past summer. If physical beauty, hiking or biking, cuisine and Romanesque architecture are a passion for you, then this is the place!!!

Good news: Clean, nice restaurant with cute friendly waiter, pool. Good price. Bad news: Wouldn't give me a towel for the pool, unappealing and off-putting bedspread, not warm reception when we checked in. I wouldn't go back there, but it wouldn't take too much to improve this hotel: New bedspreads, stairs in shallow part of pool, warmer welcome.
