Could be so much more

This is for room 16, family room. NO windows. Room size ok but bathroom could have been smaller and then room would have been fantastic. KB super soft, too soft. Bunk beds better. Cold draught came under the front door. Bathroom had too much wasted space, vanity to small and floor super cold. Had to use towels as mats. Towels are great though. If bathroom was made just a tad smaller, add a cavity slider door, then a small meal prep area could have been set up. Dishes had to done in vanity sink. Water pressure ok with only small temp variations. While the castle is closed we could explore the grounds. Kettle, toaster, fridge and m/wave supplied with utensils to use. You are out of town so take supplies.

Paying for the location

Reviewed By mv18829

We chose this place for a weekend in Ballarat and were particularly interested in the central location. The reception staff were most helpful as we extended a further night and they were able to cater for us easily. The car park on site was secure and convenient but appeared to under-cater for the number of booked rooms. The room itself was comfortable and tidy, but not necessarily clean throughout. Some of the furniture had not been dusted for a while. Nice bathroom with great water pressure. However the plumbing in the building was quite old I believe, with loud clunking sounds from time to time. We thought it was somewhat overpriced for what it offered, but I guess you're paying for the location.

Rude, unfriendly welcome

Reviewed By heatherpL3190ZK

I've stayed here before and felt I was getting value for money, clean room, comfortable bed, nice hot water and staff friendly, but few extras. My husband booked by phone last week for a booking on Sunday night 5th December. As he has low vision I went in to the office complete with mask. When Warren asked for my confirmation of vaccination, I asked with disbelief, 'Do we need to be vaccinated?' He replied that we did and went on to say with an angry, raised voice that it was law and that he was not going to take it. He then rose from his chair and went towards another door and said, 'I'm leaving', and left me to exit through the front door. I was shaken and shocked. Fortunately, we found another motel for the same price which is far superior. We will never ever return to the Ambassador motel. I have since checked for vaccination status at motels in Victoria and the Coronavirus website states: There are currently no vaccination requirements for people to access accommodation facilities. Lola Montez was one of the most notorious characters of the Gold Rush. She was a dancer, an actress, a comic, but it’s her cheeky and spirited nature that has influenced us most. Room nice and clean and the staff were very polite and helpful. It was great to be provided with crockery and cutlery to enable some basic microwave cooking. Bed was extremely comfortable and contributed to a good nights sleep. We appreciated the staff contacting us about a book we left behind before we had gone too far.

Reviewed By genevieve m

As a local I wanted to experience the fantastic looking new motel so I could recommend to friends and family. Girlfriends from out of town joined me. The building fresh and new with beautiful views of stunning Ballarat in the autumn. Close to train station a bonus. Walking distance to great eating and entertainment. No need for a car if able to come by train. However it lacked in comforts. There were two tea bags. Three sachets of coffee and sugar. When I called to ask for herbal tea they said that was all they had. Housekeeping poor with lipstick on cups. Only one facecloth in shared bathroom. No moisturiser and only very stiff pump-action soap and shampoo. It was not a budget price for the two rooms but it was budget conditions. Very disappointed.
