The best available hotels & places to stay near Bainbridge Island

August 1, 2022 Tambra Mccollister

Although it's just 35 minutes by ferry from Seattle, Bainbridge Island is a totally different world. Travelers who enjoy the outdoors can hike, bike or walk in the Bloedel Reserve or Fort Ward State Park. The island feels rural, and local agriculture is a source of pride for residents (check out what's in season at the farmers' market). Bainbridge Island is also known for its strong visual and performing arts culture, and there's good shopping in Winslow.

Outstanding value for price

In April 2022 I had room 307, a "junior suite." With better appliances this would have served well as a permanent residence for one person, and was quite comfortable for a visit for two. We had a rate around $110. Across 4 continents, I have probably stayed in 500 hotels ranging below Motel 6 to legitimate 5 star hotels. For the price point selected, I have never found a better value than The Marshall Suites. The innkeeper clearly takes pride in their work and property, and pays attention to detail. Friendly staff. Tiny workout room (really tiny) still has very good quality equipment. Across the street are restaurants and a supermarket.

Great staff but rundown property and poor value for what you get.

I get it, its the end of a long winter and Covid has taken its toll on places like this. I am sympathetic. The Quality Inn is the low priced or "Budget" accommodation on the Island. However I have stayed about 30 days in hotel/motels in 2022 and this is by far at the bottom of the list. First, what is positive: The staff were really nice especially Emma. Our room was clean and neat, the bed comfy and for 5 nights overall quiet day and night. (Except road noice from the highway) The location is a good one if you want to be close to stores and restaurants and ferry to Seattle. What is disappointing: the property itself badly needed cleaning. All rooms have outside entrances and the walkways were dirty and wood rotting on railings. Parking lot and sidewalks need cleaning. They have a pool and hot tub closed down full of rainwater and debris, the wood fence starting to fall down. Shabby is the best word. Breakfast is included in your room rate but minimal compared to other hotels in this price range such as the Holiday Inn Express. So overall, this is the least expensive hotel on Bainbridge but is clearly rundown and not being maintained. You will get a decent room but at a cost comparable to other chains that offer better value and quality. They are the only game in town at this price point so it appears they are taking advantage of this and making little to no effort to spruce the place up. There is a much nicer, slightly more expensive hotel(Depending on season and holidays etc. ) a block away if you don't mind paying a bit more to get more. I have to rate them poor because compared to others I have stayed in traveling all over the west coast, they are not average.

The Eagle Harbor Inn

The Eagle Harbor Inn on Bainbridge Island is a "petit hotel" with a touch of European class. Accommodations are available in one-of-a-kind hotel rooms, suites and custom townhomes -- opening to a landscaped courtyard. Our guests sleep in deluxe bedding, relax in the garden courtyard, walk to nearby restaurants, shopping, marina and the ferry.

We loved our stay at the Eagle Harbor Inn. The owner went the extra MILE to accommodate my “special-needs” We stayed in the Rockaway Beach Room. The room was spacious, with just enough decoration, but not overkill. The mattress, bedding and towels are deluxe! Ditto on the soaps and shampoos. We appreciated the off street parking. The location is “spitting distance” from the waterfront marina, view restaurants and waterfront stroll. It’s also just one block from the west side of the downtown commercial district. In other words, just park your car at the hotel and go! We will return!

Lovely room, nicely appointed, with a few flaws

Reviewed By pamelaao2018

I spent one night at this inn. My room was clean and comfortable, with a desk, a TV and phone, an easy chair, many pillows of different thicknesses on the bed, a coffee tea maker (Keurig, so I guess you have to use the pods provided), two large sinks, a nice bathroom, an easy to use thermostat, a minifridge, and a hairdryer with a diffuser. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are conveniently located in dispensers in the shower. Unlike some writeups of this hotel, parking is available--I parked right outside my door. Checkin would have been easy EXCEPT the code to my door didn't work. So I returned to the main ofice (roughly a short block away). They gave me a key. The key didn't work. Back to the office. Turns out that the deadbolt had been thrown and what's more, the door or the lock was mishung or had slipped, so that you had to jigger the key every time you used it. Sometimes I was able to open it with no trouble, other times, not. I got to the point that when I went out to my car, I put something in the door so it wouldn't shut. This is fixable, so presumably someone will get it repaired. My other beef about the room is that there is no microwave (there is one microwave on the premises, but it was in a different building). I don't drink caffeine and none of the Keurig pods appealed to me. That said, these are small matters. The place is very pleasant, and downtown Winslow is just a few minutes away.

Beautiful View and Setting

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Loft with the much acclaimed beautiful view of Puget Sound. The space was bright and clean and fully equipped for our 3-day stay. Our host was very accommodating and allowed us to have our small wedding ceremony (6 guests) on the deck with a stunning background. Somehow, she also arranged for perfect weather!
