A majestic property with great potential unfilled

I have to start this review with a disclaimer. I have never given a hotel a rating this low. But in this situation I had no control of where we were staying. Given any advanced research, this would never have been on our list. Sadly, this was the only hotel with 7 rooms available for the event we were attending. This is a property with good bones and great potential for development, but not currently fit for human habitation. It has so many problems and negatives that I have no idea as to where to begin. Check in was a confused process even to our tour leader who is Spanish, but now lives in the states. The bell staff was non existent. The front entrance is flat out ugly. We arrived late in the afternoon, but all the rooms were not ready. The beautiful lobby design, with a grand wrap around staircase. was decorated in a silly "style" that can only be called "garage sale perfect" with bad art, old sculptures, poor lighting, miss matched furniture, no sense of design/placement and Pathos Ivy hanging from the second floor to about 6 & 1/2 feet from the lobby floor. There is but one very slow elevator, the filthy & torn carpeting is leg breaking accident away from happening to a guest. The rooms are dull and uninspired, the lighting is terrible, the shutters make entering the room feel as if you going into a cave, the bath is dated and not well maintained, the beds uncomfortable, and the WIFI is a mess. The breakfast has to be the worst we had on a trip filled with wonderful food. The taste was poor, the presentation uninspired and the service non existent. Even the coffee was cold! The only hope for this property is that a well funded new owner with great hotel experience takes it over and does a top to bottom rehab! Until then, look into the Nunez de Prado across the street--which appears to be a beautiful place to stay. Unfortunately, we did not get to look at any of the rooms there because they were filled with dignitaries and politicians for the Olive Producers special event. We did have a olive oil production tour and geat lunch at that property, which is spectacular--with great olive history and and a very engaging owner. They were also the site of the reception for the Baena Olive Festival Awards night. I am certain that your stay there will be far superior to what we experienced at the La Casa Grande!

Room was clean and had a nice view Friendly staff but; tip 2: don't expect a word other than spanish, so use your hands and feet Breakfast was included. Bread with strawberry jam and a cup of coffee. Tip 3: if that's not enough for you? There's a Lidl spuermercado nearby.
