Beautiful dinner in Aups

Reviewed By Andi M

My husband and I had our first evening out here. Service was sweet, my saddle of rabbit and sauces and gnocchi side were all excellent. My husband's beef also delicious. When I couldn't finish and asked for take away (I know this is a stretch in France, but I couldn't leave it behind), they simply wrapped my china plate in plastic wrap and sent us on our way. Of course, we returned their plates the next day. Very gracious people.

Looked promising but was disappointing

Reviewed By sam C

We had seen this restaurant packed the night before so booked a table for the next day after reading what seemed to be a very promising menu. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to expectations. The special angus steak was sold out by 19.30, the pesto was NOT pesto. If you’re expecting pesto, ie the real Italian version then forget it. This is a tomato and basil sauce with a few pine nuts thrown in. Pizza was not brilliant, even my teenage son had trouble finishing it and he will eat anything as most boys do. The porc with cepes was ok but did not really taste of much and was dry. The beef check was soft and nice but the rest of the dish was bland and swimming in water. The starter of foie gras is overpriced and seemed perfumed with cinnamon which did spoil the dish if you don’t like cinnamon. I did ask for a small dish of pasta with pesto on the side for my daughter, age 10, and was told fairly rudely by the waitress that this may not be possible. After insisting and asking how complicated could it be and how pesto can vary, she promptly put me back in my place and said she was not scared of us rating her pesto. Pesto rating = 0

Nice hotel in Aups

Reviewed By PeleSweden

This family run restaurant is our favourite in Aups. This year we decided not only to eat, but to stay for two nights at the hotel as well. It is not a luxury hotel, but the family room was good. An extra plus for the fridge. Rooms are not expensive and the breakfast was very good, served under the trees in the calm and cosy restaurant. Service was very nice and friendly. As always.

Super friendly

We visited Aups as a base for doing some investigation of the local area. Cindy and Dieter welcomed us for arrival despite us arriving very late at night, and showed us around. We had lots planned during our 4 day stay and our hosts couldn’t have been more helpful throughout. They were very busy but took the time to answer all our questions, help us find our way around etc. The weather was great, 27 degrees and cloudless skies, and Aups was a great central base for the lakes, the local villages and was only 90 minutes from the airport. Great hosts, great stay

Lovely and Peaceful

Reviewed By WakefieldFroggett

Newly taken-over, this site is beautiful. The new 'Carers' have obviously spent a lot of money to make it appeal to a broader section of tourists, with plans to improve the toilets and wash facilities over winter (a welcome improvement). We've been coming here for over 20 years and shall continue to do so. With the changes being made, our kids are more likely to come here, with their kids. The restaurant was really good too, with limited albeit good choices. Another positive for us was the new owners have adopted ACSI, meaning off peak stays are a lot cheaper than previous. The location as always is perfect for walking, cycling or just visiting the village and Lac St Croix.
