Clean , professional staff, would use again
Reviewed By laoban173Staff could communicate in English, even tho I think I was the only non German speaker . Room , toilet and bathroom room : spotlessly clean. Asked for a foam pillow. Not a problem. A note ( not criticizing) , was unseasonably warm . No AC . Was a challenge. Nice breakfast buffet . All in all very pleasant.

Breakfast (included in room rate) and dinner (at hotel’s restaurant Little Italy) focuses on fresh, locally sourced and organic food. Our hosts (7th generation hoteliers at the Adler) were consistently happy to share advise on the best local attractions. The hotel offered umbrellas when there was rain and laundry service, when we needed it. The hotel is small and decorated with Appenzell historical artwork, clippings, costumes and artifacts — all charming. Location is close to town center and the train station. Would highly recommend to couples or families looking for local Swiss charm and plenty of Swiss history and hiking.

An amazing family ran hotel!
Reviewed By cmh69dThis is an amazing hotel in every aspect. It is a family ran business who clearly cares about the fine details that make you feel welcome! The rooms are large and bright and the cafe exceptional. We ate 2/3 dinners here plus one lunch simply because of the great menu!

A cosy hotel up in the mountains
Reviewed By SonjaB1941Lovely little hotel with very kind staff. The owners go the extra mile. The rooms are cosy with lots of wood, new bathroom, nice bedding. Very quiet area with beautiful walks. Doggy friendly. Convenient parking space. Restaurant is rustic and food is of excellent quality. Selection of wine is basic but good. Breakfast is nice although the Corona shenanigans have found their way up to the Alp, unfortunately. All in all a great experience and highly recommendable.

Delightful stay in a great location
Reviewed By aldeilisWe stayed in the top floor apartment which is very spacious (Beds for 8 people) with a good kitchen and living area. The apartment is charming and has a nice balcony with a view over the surrounding hills. The interiors are a bit dated but well maintained and spotlessly clean. The hotel has a nice restaurant and is in a great location right in the center of town. The breakfast is typical Swiss and is served in an elegant and friendly way. Highly recommended all in all.

Unser Familienhotel mit 19 Zimmern liegt an perfekter Lage um Ausflüge in die berühmten Museen, die Pfarrkirche oder zu sonst etwas typisch appenzellischem zu machen. Das wunderschöne Patrizierhaus Gasthaus Hof, welches im 18. Jahrhundert erbaut wurde, liegt mitten im Dorfkern von Appenzell. Das am Landsgemeindeplatz liegende Familienhotel befindet sich in unmittelbarer Nähe der berühmten Hauptgasse. Die farbigen und traditionsreichen Häuser laden jung und alt zum Verweilen und Shoppen ein. Wir Appenzeller sind bekannt für unsere Traditionen. Es liegt dem ganzen Volk daran diese zu pflegen und zu hegen. Auch Sie können an diesen teilhaben.

The hotel is within walking distance to everything, the train station, Co-op's, restaurants and many boutique shops. The restaurant downstairs serves excellent traditional Swiss cuisines, highly recommend. I definitely will stay again when we visit Appenzell next time.

Reviewed By 344blankasThe overnight experience at the Hotel Löwen was absolutely wonderful, starting from the check-in into the lovely traditional rooms decorated in the historical Appenzeller way with beautifully painted furniture. The staff, namely Vanessa and Laura, were absolutely terrific with great suggestions for hikes in the area and making super quick table reservations for their hungry guest. The breakfast is also wonderful with a full offering of Appenzell cheese specialties and many other things on the side and the breakfast room has wonderful views of some of the most beautiful houses along Appenzell’s main pedestrian street.

Country comfort - Swiss style!
Reviewed By Alisa DAbout a 5 minute drive from Appenzell, surrounded by rolling hills and the sound of cow bells, we were greeted by a warm and friendly welcome. This is a family owned and operated B&B and you can tell from the moment you walk inside, Corinne and Erich have pride in their property and what they do. Attention to detail sets this place apart. Everything you need to feel welcome, relaxed and comfortable has been thought of here. The family seem to know everyone in Appenzell and everyone seems to know them - there is a real sense of community here. As international guests to the area, the local knowledge and advice we were given was very helpful (Corinne speaks English, her husband Erich doesn't). Rooms were clean and very comfortable - plenty of room for two and ample storage/hanging space in the wardrobe. The only negative (for us it was a very small one) - there are stairs - no lift/elevator. Erich is happy to assist with transporting suitcases if need be. The food was fresh and delicious (locally sourced). They have a restaurant on site which serves dinner a few nights each week - Erich does all the cooking. Also a great wine and local beer selection too. The location lends itself to being a perfect stop over for the avid bush walker/hiker, however it is also perfect for those looking for something just out of town - quiet, country, with a welcoming/relaxed family feel and yet close enough to discover Appenzell and surrounds easily.
