The best available hotels & places to stay near Annapolis

June 23, 2022 Flossie Demartino

With more surviving 18th century buildings than any other city in the United States, visiting Annapolis is like stepping back in time to the days when the city was a colonial seaport. Known as America’s Sailing Capital, the city is located on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay and is a paradise for water lovers, famous for its crab cakes, lighthouses, and 500 miles of gorgeous shoreline. Tour the campus of the US Naval Academy, or the Maryland State House, the oldest state capitol still in use.

Great live music and food

Reviewed By Christopher L

We went here for the live music, a local singer/guitarist. The music was excellent, as ecpected, and. the food turned out to be great as well, which was a big bonus. The fish tacos were especially delicious, as was the grilled avocado caprese salad. They also had some nice Chardonnay and a good variety of beers on tap.

A good night’s sleep was NOT had

Reviewed By chuck2950

I checked into this hotel (Room 571) late in the afternoon of June 3rd. When I entered the room it was quite chilly so I turned down the A/C. An hour later I was picked up by my niece and we went out to dinner in Annapolis. I returned to the room at about 10PM and before I went to bed, I turned the A/C down to a lower temperature. I then woke up to something grinding in the motor which would not stop and it continued to keep me up most of the night. While I considered just changing rooms, I was leaving early in the AM and chose not to do so. When I checked out at the front desk, I let Ivy (front desk person) know that the room should NOT be utilized until the motor is corrected. I also told her that I had a terrible night of little sleep. She said she would notate that on my file and that someone ‘might’ be in touch (possibly the GM). As of June 9th, no one has contacted me nor have I received what is typically sent out by hotel companies-a review of your stay. For a room that cost over $300, this was not worth the money nor was the response by the hotel appropriate. Side note: there was a long black hair in the bathroom sink and the quality of the TV was marginal at best. Stay at your own risk.

Holiday Inn Express Annapolis - clean, free parking, cramped, pricey

Reviewed By JackD952

We wanted an out of downtown location for better value and less congestion. This hotel on Riva Rd provided both but I still believe that an average of $213/night is high. Myra was the desk clerk who greeted us enthusiastically and provided friendly conversation throughout our stay. Our room was a standard 2 Queen bed room which was clean but was cramped in many ways. This hotel is approximately 4 miles from downtown so our small retail and dining adventures were conveniently close. The complimentary breakfast buffet had varied and tasty choices. Parking was free and on-premises and didnt have an annoying no in-out restriction. We will definitely stay here again. I recommend that management consider a return guest, Senior and/or Gold Member discounts.

STAY AT A Motel Six ... not here

Reviewed By ruthmK7526JC

My visit started off on a bad note ... Called the location to ask for about an earlier check in... spoke to "Melody" and explained that I had my service dog with me along with my six month old grandson .... she first said flatly NO, but then placed me on a LONG hold to ask the manager. She came back, and with a NASTY tone, said they would honor an earlier window of an hour. My family and I decided to just wait until their normal check-in, because of Melody's charming personality. Upon arrival, I check us in and I was explaining to to the clerk that I was tired. She wanted to debate me that she was more tired than I ...I just let it go. Got to the room, the snacks for us were really not good ... vending machine goodies. We got a call from the front desk and was told our SERVICE dog wasn't acceptable and was over their weight limit. I explained it was a SERVICE dog. Upon I was told they didn't care. This is against ADA . Got another phone call, and was told she could stay, but had to use side entrance and not main door ... upon at that time ... WE LEFT... HORRIBLE EXERIENCE... HORRIBLE STAFF

Property is well managed and clean. What more can you ask for? If I had to pick one downside I would say the down pillows aren’t that comfortable. The deflate fast to about a hard quarter inch . We drove so we had pillows in the car. They have a little pool and hot tub that was. Ice fir the kids. 14 minutes on average to downtown. I would stay here again.

What an incredible hotel and hospitality experience — thank you, Annapolis Waterfront team! I’ve never been at a hotel this thoughtful and accommodating. We were worried about having our puppy in the hotel, and Rene went miles out of his way to make sure we (and the pup!) were comfortable and happy. The hotel itself is beautiful, clean, and well-designed, and we are so grateful to the team that runs it. Highly, highly recommend, and thank you, Rene!
