Reviewed By Paula VStayed for one night. When I entered the room the window was open, later I understood why: with the window closed a smell of sewage emanated from the bathroom. Kept the bathroom door closed and that solved the problem, bathroom looked clean, shower stall looked old and not well maintained, didn't use it. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I had included breakfast and that was worthwhile to have. Compared to other Ibis budget hotels this didn't quite make the grade. Ok for one night and close to the station.

Great base for exploring Angouleme
Reviewed By Mark SWe had a large group staying for our wedding and chose to base at the Mercure. We were very happy with the choice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are modern and clean. It's a great location for exploring Angouleme. Everything is walkable. Great WiFi and a nice relaxing garden. There is a parking garage which is great, if a little tight for larger cars. Can fully recommend staying here to explore beautiful Angouleme.

Reviewed By TonyL2374Right in the heart of the old city, this hotel is quite different from the norm. The location is brilliant, the parking good value for money and the staff very friendly and welcoming. Rooms comfortable and cosy. Happily stay there again.

A new hotel in an old Diocesan House. Completely renovated with a modern and comfortable decoration. The presence of designer furniture all in a warm ambience. Convenient setting has its own gourmet restaurant, "the Algorithm".
A hidden gem
Reviewed By glynmacdonThe hotel was perfectly located , far enough away from the centre to feel secluded but near enough to get your steps in round the ramparts ! The room had some clever and lovely touches and an incredibly comfortable mattress to ensure an excellent night's sleep. The young team who run it were all delightful , helpful and a credit to this hidden gem. You must stay there

The public areas and the bedrooms were spotlessly clean, very functional and quiet. Breakfast was good and presented us with a good choice. The staff {we only saw two} were extremely helpful and could not be faulted. Not a five star establishment but very good.

Reviewed By mlopes797433Very good place to stay. I arrived outside reception times and they had send codes to enter the flat. It was easy to use this and find the key for the studio. The studio was spacious and clean. I met staff at the check out. They were polite and friendly. The vheck out quick.

misleading

We had one chair as our 'balcony furniture', the back terrace had rusty chairs,/no plants, I have no idea where the 'city view' could have been taken. The room is advertised as 15 sqm - but this includes the bathroom area. Having seen the room we decided we did not want to stay and returned to reception to say we wished to have a refund. We were advised that a refund is only available 48 hours before i.e. not when you actually see the room. We decided not to stay and went to another hotel. I take into account the fact that some areas have been painted recently and that it is not an 'expensive' hotel. However, information on a website should be accurate. Also - comments made by the hotel owner below say the hotel is a 'hostel' - if it is, why isn't called Hostel Epi d'Or? Hostel and hotel have different connotations.

Lovely place to stay.
Reviewed By alex4777This place is simply perfect and Angouieme is a very nice city with a charming old centre full of restaurants and cafes. You can walk to the old city centre in 5-10 minutes. Michele is a perfect host who likes to make you as comfortable as possible. I liked to chat with this interesting lady. She was very entertaining and gave a lot of recommendations for restaurants. The rooms are perfect clean and spacious. Breakfast is simply good and fresh. There are (paid) parking places for your car right in front of the house (only a few euros for late afternoon till morning). The perfect place for a stop on your way to the south/north or for a visit of the lovely town.

Still needs some changes
Reviewed By Ad KThis B&B is hard to find. Could use a big sign on the outside. Reception when knocking: "couldn't you use the (invisible) bell?" Very nice view over Angoulême. It lies in a big garden (still needs some work) which would merit some places with chairs to enjoy. Swimming pool still empty. Be very careful not to bump your head when shaving in the bathroom.
