The best available Cottages to stay near Nordland

April 29, 2023 Giuseppe Pratt

Typified by steep mountains and the flat lowlands where they meet the Norwegian Sea, Nordland is known for its stunning scenery. The Lofoten Islands off the mainland are considered among the world's best for travelers and include unique attractions like the Lofotr Viking Museum at Borg. Saltstraumen near Bodo has the world's strongest tidal current. Further south, Vega has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its age-old lifestyle of fishing and eider duck down harvesting.

Eliassen Rorbuer

There is a place on Earth where the Sun never sets, the Northern lights never cease to amaze, and the landscape changes constantly, the wind never stops blowing and the people always smile. These are the Lofoten. Eliassen Rorbuer is a holiday resort with fishermen’s cabins, enjoying the longest tradition in the tourist industry in Lofoten. We offer accommodation in a traditional fishermen’s cabin camp, in the most beautiful western part of the Lofoten Islands. It is situated on the tiny island of Hamnøy in Western Lofoten, the Moskenes municipality. The island is the last one in the archipelago to have the road link. Currently the Lofoten Islands are mainly associated with fishing, which takes place from January to April, alongside the entire archipelago. All of our cabins are new renovated and got a new floor, kitchen, bathroom and furnishings. Welcome to refreshed Eliassen Rorbuer!

Could be better

Reviewed By Jesper C

Our room was with direct view to the fjord and mountains- excellent - but there is no direct acces from the room to the terrasse. The rorbuer room is fine for two people - but I would not stay a family of four. The bedroom is small and one side direct to the wall, so you have to crawl over. In stead we used the bed in the livingroom which is wallhanged - that leaves very little space to walk around. The bathroom is huge and nice and there are kitchen - but NO coffefacilities - unless you bring your own - how many tourists from abroad do that? When we booked we were asked if we would like to have breakfast - yes please - and though I didn't got a confirmation - three days before we arrived I got another message about breakfast. As we arrived just to find out that the rorbuer did not serve breakfast at the restaurant at that time of the year ( end august) . The place was fully booked and the restaurant was open - come on. So back to the supermarked -5 minutes down the road - and buy some fruit, bread and coffee. Now we have instant coffee for the next travel. AT least the rorbuer could have these small coffeepots they have in every hotel- if not for free - they can sell it. Disappointing. The rorbuer Wass the most expensive place in our trip -but they should take a look at Norsk Havbrugscenter - and see how they do things. I will not recommend this place - there are better options in the area.

Anker Brygge Rorbusuiter AS

Anker Brygge consists of highly comfortable rorbu suites spectacularly situated on its own little island named Lamholmen in the middle of Svolvær harbour. The resort is connected to Svolvær city central with a bridge and we have free parking outside on our own parking lot. Living at Anker Brygge you are within a 200 meters range from the Town Square, Hurtigruten and small shops and galleries. All suites are traditionally built and fully equipped for today`s standard – making your stay with us nice and comfortable. From all of our rooms/rorbuer you have an amazing view to the sea and mountains surrounding our world famous islands. On the outside quay of your cabin/rorbu you can enjoy your morning coffee or you might try to catch your own fish? At Anker Brygge we also offer a solid and traditional meal at our highly recommended Gourmet Restaurant named “Kjøkkenet” . Lamholmen has been inhabitated since the early 1800`s. There were several fish-companies, fish treatment factories, a barrel factory and "rorbuer", barns and houses on the island. The fish products from Lamholmen was mainly exported abroad to Italy, Spain, Portugal and Brazil. Today you can feel the atmosphere from the old days in all of our rooms. You still get the feeling of the era when life was rough and fishermen came to Lofoten by oars and sails in their small fishing boats from places all over this nations long coastline.

This hotel had in my opinion a wonderful way of being professional as well as very down to earth. I stayed in one of the rooms at the hotel. The room was good. It was a nice atmosphere at the bar in the evening. Breakfast was ok, but not great. The location is fabulous.

Nyvagar Rorbuhotel - by Classic Norway Hotels

Nyvagar Rorbuhotell is idyllically located at the Lofoten Sea, in the historically important area called Storvagan. Here we have comfortable and spacious fishing huts with hotel standard, and a restaurant in squire style. Bright meeting rooms with large windows provide an unobstructed view of the magnificent scenery outside. We serve fantastic food based on local ingredients and have a legendary aquavit attic. Nyvagar has charging station for Tesla and electric cars. There is something like smell of salt water in the morning, clear blue air and the opportunity to make your own cup of coffee in your own kitchen before breakfast, pushing up the patio door, and just put your feet on a morning warmth woodbread. One morning in Rorbua before the job conference, the holiday or a big event. In Lofoten, the fishing huts have given shelter to local fishermen and visitors who have caught fish at sea for more than a thousand years. You will become a part of this tradition. True, the standard has been upgraded quite a lot since then, but still. We have 30 fishing huts, each with four beds divided into two bedrooms. That means 60 persons in single rooms and 120 persons in double rooms. The fishing huts are 50 square meters over two levels, and their standard is like in hotel suites. All fishing huts have a private bathroom with toilet and shower, living room with dining area for 6 persons. The kitchen is equipped and has a cooker, kettle and fridge. Bedding, wireless internet, cleaning and towels are included.

Nice location, bad food and an unfriendly staff

Reviewed By Joshua S

This hotel has a beautiful location. That’s about all it has going for it. The staff is surly and the food is pretty horrible. Instead of a guest-centric attitude, their attitude seems to be “this is how it is, too bad”. Examples include: - kicking us out of the sauna because guests who are skiers are only allowed to use it from 4-6pm - refusing to put the local version of Nutella they have at breakfast out for waffles, despite multiple guest requests. Apparently because people would like it too much and they would “be going through loads of it”. Truly astonishing. - scolding guests for drinking cans of beer (in lieu of paying the exorbitant prices at the lodge) - hot tub only open two days a week. Water is filthy and lukewarm The food is tasteless and of low quality with no variety. Cod and boiled potatoes for dinner, the same yogurt and muesli for breakfast every day. So much so that we twice elected to leave and pay for expensive meals in Svolvaer just to avoid eating another dinner here. I can’t imagine coming here as a couple since the rooms are tiny and basic - glad I was here with some ski buddies as my wife would have insisted we leave based on the unfriendly attitude and poor food.

Statles Rorbu- og Konferansesenter

You find our hotel resort in the heart of the Lofoten Islands, in picturesque Mortsund harbor. In a place where fishermen once spent the season in rorbuer built at the water’s edge you will treat yourself to a truly authentic Lofoten experience. Our cabins offer up to three bedrooms and feature ensuite bathrooms and kitchenettes. Ask for a private balcony. You can catch your meal right at your doorsteps or book dinner at our restaurant. Mt. Middagstinden waits for you to enjoy the sensational view over our bay. Leknes airport is within reach, and so is the Hurtigruten stop at Stamsund harbor (20 minutes each). Popular destinations on the Vestvågøy island – such as the Haukland and Unstad beaches, Mt. Skottinden or the Viking Museum are just a stone’s throw away.

Amazing location by Vestfjorden

Reviewed By Summer_angel04

Statles Rorbuer are newly built flats, basically, with a great location around 20 mins drive from Leknes. Great area for hiking, fishing and the general Lofoten experience. We had a great rorbu with outdoor seating, two bedrooms, two baths and a living room with a kitchen section. A bit surprising that they only provide 4 glasses, 4 plates etc - means you will need to do dishes or run the dishwasher if you stay more than one night. But everything was clean and check-in fast.

Perfect for short stay

The room was fantastic. Very clean and tge kitchen best equipped with everything. Unless you plan a hike in the area, or camp there is nothing else to see near bleik to be honest. So in case you land in andenes and then start a roadtrip on the next day it s a good alternative. It s just a pity to see the surroundings in not the best state. But the room itself is perfect.
