Exceptional stay at the Bungalows!

Reviewed By Catherine T

Before embarking on the Mare a Mare Sud trail across southern Corsica, my husband and I stayed at the charming Bungalows du Maquis. What a pleasant surprise was in store for us! The room was quiet, clean, and spacious with a comfortable bed, making for a restful night. The hotel itself is located way up on a hill (a mountain really) overlooking the town of Porto Vecchio out to the sea. All sides are surrounded by the fragrant maquis and you can enjoy this atmosphere from their lovely little pool. Although we didn't have time to take a dip in the pool, we did opt for demi-pension, affording us a lovely dinner in their restaurant. I am a pescatarian and they prepared a whole fish as the main course which was one of the most delectable meals on our entire trip. Overall, this is a great place to stay if you want a tranquil atmosphere, a great view, and excellent food and service! Thank you Bungalow du Maquis!!!

Excellent! Would definitely return!

We have recently stayed at Les Pavillons Du Belvedere and couldn’t recommend more highly. Extremely friendly and helpful owner who couldn’t do enough to make sure we felt welcome. Extremely clean accommodation and very adequate facilities available. We visited with 2 young children and they loved it... especially the small park. I would definitely return.

Location and Parking

Lovely clean and nicely decorated apartment with large outdoor terrace. King size bed and walk in shower with lots of hot water. We cooked our own breakfast of eggs and bacon which was a nice treat from having pastries for breakfast. There is a coffee machine and coffee pods are provided. There is a outdoor pool that we didn’t use as there are so many beautiful beaches in the area. Nice to have the option. The apartment is in a great location only minutes from the town and all it’s wonderful bars and restaurants. Parking is on site which is always a plus in Europe. Check in and check out was very easy. Next time we are in Corsica we will have to plan our holiday better and stay longer.

With some simple adjustments this good be great

Good: - Location: max 5 min walk - Swimming pool - Clean - Parking - Greenery around the appartments Improvements: - Double bed: too small now - Plastic sheets: who wants to sleep on plastic with this weather? Who wants to sleep on plastic at all? - Kitchen supplies: please invest in a good baking/grill pan, mixer, coffee machine (Nespresso please) and a bigger stove. Family diner on 2 heating points is challenging. And if possible, probably not, please do something to avoid all the ants. We did our best to store away food, but there were still so many. - Diner table: 2 persons and a todler sit at a 1x1mtr plastic table (and no child seat)? - Washing machine: after paying for the accomodation I don't expect to pay 5 euro to do laundry (and 5 extra if we would have chosen to dry as well). - Child friendly?: please don't let us set up and make up the bed after a long travel. A little blanket besides the sheets would have been nice. 10 euro Ikea child chair as well. If you really want to do it good: A plastic plate, cup and spoon. - Towels: i know, it is not a hotel and that's why we brought our own towels. But if you charge hotel prices per night, I think you can afford to give towels to people instead of guest renting them for 15 euro per week. The above did not avoid us from having a lovely holiday. But, I think these simple adjustments can help you become a the real 3 (or even 4) star resort you want to be.

Bathroom needs to be improved

Reviewed By Xenia_Serene

We stayed here for just a few hours before our ferry to Nice and obviously for that reason the receptionist gave us a superior apartment instead of a standard one which we initially booked. It was spacious, comfortable and clean with a great view and a fully equipped kitchenette. However, the bathroom wasn’t good at all: it had neither a curtain nor edging. I can’t imagine how it’s ever possible to take a shower there… However, the personnel is super-friendly and they helped us enormously in one very important case. Thank you guys so much! Also, the hotel is located right in the centre of the town, close to the citadel, restaurants and shops.

A beautiful resort & beach

Reviewed By studentka

Our family went to the Castell Verde appartments the second week of May. WEATHER The weather wasn't brilliant whilst we were there. It was raining & a bit chilly some of the days. However, we did have a few nice & very warm days as well, so it wasn't all bad. If we went again, it would most probably be in June, warmer weather but not too many people. HOTEL & GROUNDS The hotel grounds are beautiful...it reminded us a little bit of our hotel grounds in Mexico. Very lush vegetation. The reception is quite small, so when everyone is trying to check in at the same time, you end up feeling like sardines. Otherwise it's nice & the staff are very helpful & polite. There are two laptops in the reception area, which can be used free of charge. Opposite the reception is the swimming pool, with some stunning views. We haven't used the pool, so I can't comment on the water etc. but it's a lovely area to relax in & enjoying the views. Next to the pool is the Costa Rica restaurant, which again, has some stunning views. It looked classy & was quite expensive, but can't comment on the food, as we didn't eat there. We had nice drinks there in the evening on the open terrace & it was lovely. One of their coctails is a must!! APPARTMENTS We stayed in a two bedroom appartment, not far from the reception, unfortunately didn't have any nice views. To me, the appartment felt much smaller, than I had imagined. It was quite dark, with a tiny bathroom. If there's just one of you having a shower, than I suppose, it's not so bad, but when you are trying to shower your 2 year old, than it's a nightmare. Best feature in the appartments is definitely the kitchen. You have everything there, that you could possibly need. Best equipment we've ever had on a self catering holiday. Loved the dishwasher!! Living area is quite small, but practical, with a large sliding door leading out to the terrace. As I mentioned before, no views, just a small grassed area. In the lounge, there are very steep stairs leading up to the bedrooms. I can see this being a problem, for families with small children. Just something to be aware of. I would not recomend these appartments for families with really young children, for the reasons above, but that's just from my own personal experience, if you want to avoid extra stress!!! Before checking out of your appartment, you'll be asked to tidy up, strip the beds & do your washing up. Don't worry about scrubbing everything though, I don't think that's what they mean, as they have their own cleaners for that. A bit of advice, buy it on the way or bring with you, some soap, toilet roll & washing up liquid, just untill you stock up on your supplies. BEACH & RESORT Absolutely beautiful!! The beach is about 10 minute walk from the hotel. You pass a small supermarket on the way, where, as mentioned before, you can buy a few necessities. Nothing much, if you want to cook proper meals though. The beach had quite a lot of seaweed there at the time, but otherwise it was beautiful. The water was different colour evey time we went there...more beautiful every day. Our favourite part of the beach was by the Moby Dick hotel. You could see the mountains at the background, just amazing!!! Santa Giulia bay is stunning!! The beach gets quite busy so I wouldn't like to see it in high season. The locals say, that you can't see the sand, how busy it gets in July/August & I don't think they were joking either! There were a couple of watersports places open, where we hired some kayaks & pedalos (kayaks were 11euro p.h. or 16 euro for 2hrs, pedalos 12 euro p.hr) etc. There were couple of restaurants open on the beach, where we ate a few times. Quite expensive (around 60-70 euros for 2 adults + 2 children with drinks) but very tasty & good size portions. OUT & ABOUT We went to Porto Vechio with a taxi as we didn't rent a car. We paid around 15 euro each way. It's a lovely town with a preety marina. Lovely for a day trip. We also went to Bonifacio with our tour operator. Again, lovely trip, but could have done with more time there. It was a bit of a rush but worth it! We also wanted to book a trip to the mountains but it was cancelled at the last minute, as they needed one more person. That was a big shame, as we really wanted to see it & people who did, said it was amazing. I think that should be something that Thomson should review & run the trips regardless, or pre-book in the UK, otherwise it's not fair on people who don't have a car & rely on an excursion. If you don't have a car, stock up in the supermarket on the way to the hotel. Thomson do trip on mondays to local supermarket, but there is a charge of I think 13 euro pp or something like that. Hope you found this review helpful & not too negative, but I think it's good to be aware of all this before you go & you won't be disapointed. I think if you don't expect too much, go at the right time of year & are lucky with the weather, you'll have a fantastic holiday in Santa Giulia & the Residence Castell Verde!!!
