From the rare truffles of the Drôme to the vineyards of Beaujolais, the Rhone-Alps reveal the treasures of French cuisine. Gastronomic pleasures are complemented by the lush countryside, filled with fields of lavender. UNESCO-designated Lyon has first-century Roman ruins and the 19th-century Basilica of Fourvière. Forts and castles dot the landscape around Grenoble. Work off excess calories on the slopes of Chamonix and Megève. Visit during fall to take advantage of the grape harvest and many festivals.

Be warned - not COVID safe and you won’t get your deposit back even if your caravan is spotless

Campsite owners were catering for very large groups in the restaurant approx 16 on one table and 8 on another. Not much social distancing going on their. We also watched one of their COVID deep cleans after a guest left and it took a maximum of 10 minutes. You can decide whether that is good enough for you. Our caravan had mold on the wall next to the wardrobe and the wardrobe was dirty. However, the final straw is that you will not get your deposit back no matter how much you clean before you leave unless you make them inspect the caravan and confirm it is ok before you leave. We’ve been unable to get them to inspect 2 out of 3 visits and guess what each time we get charged. No more because we won’t be going back which is a shame because it’s a good location. Don’t expect the grass and trees to be manicured like the photos in September as it is not worth it for them at the end of the season. If you are camping make sure you take your own loo paper because the rationed stuff in the toilet block is the narrowest you’ll ever see if there is any left to dispense before you go into the loo. You can probably detect the theme of saving and making money here.

A big attraction for us was to go to this site as it advertises a water park and on site pool. We booked up through pitchup and it described all the facilities. On arrival we found the water park to be closed (due to Covid) and the pool was a 5k drive at another campsite. We wouldn’t have minded if we had known before hand but the children were excited. In the end we went to the other sites pool but it had to cater for 2 campsites so was too busy to use. The price of the pitch was one of the highest that we experienced throughout France and Corsica and given the reduction in facilities we would have liked more notice and the price adjusted to reflect this. Site was clean and pitches big and in a good location for the river.

Do not stay here

There is no working sanitary block at this site. We weren’t informed of this at check in (after queuing for 25mins to check in) I went to the sanitary block which was absolutely disgusting. See photos. When I returned to reception to ask about this I was told I should have been informed they had no facilities open (or even running water) and the reason I hadn’t been told was because I had booked and paid in full via pitch up which was my fault. I would have to go back to pitch up for a refund and something was mumbled about there being another site down the road. Do not stay here!! Awful customer service.

Well signposted and reasonable access. Charming woman on reception. Lots of trees, 2 pools etc. We were in a motorhome and the trees needed trimming. Couldn’t find a moho service point. Showers ok but could do with a spruce up. Attractive area. Can imagine busy in season with tons of families.

A well appointed family friendly campsite in a beautiful region of France

Reviewed By nelsona_12

A well equipped campsite, with electric supplied pitches and various types of cottages for rent. Lots to do, with two large outdoor pools and 3 slides, in a beautiful region of France. The restaurant is reasonably priced, with a varied menu, helpfully the staff are also multi lingual, speaking Dutch, French and English in most cases, pleasant to deal with too. The area is stunningly beautiful, with all sorts of outdoor activities a few minutes drive away, MTBs, road cycling, climbing, climbing, hiking, walking, walking around the nearby medieval villages and towns etc. The views are breathtaking. I cannot recommend the area and Le Couriou enough. This will have been our second visit.

Campsite right in the middle of vineyards!

Reviewed By TravellingAndy445

We stayed for 3 nights in a tent/bungalow which is half tent and half cabin. There was room for 4 though the bedrooms were quite small so would be a squeeze for 4. That said the tented area was a good size with cooking facilities. We liked the site - receptionists friendly and helpful with decent amenities- tennis, table tennis, swimming plus a games room. The pizza from the pizza van was good straightforward stiff and they also sell cold drinks. Best of all is wine tasting 2 nights a week and you're literally right in the middle of vineyards so if you like wine it's a great site. I have read the other reviews- i thought our toilet block was fine - showers were decent and reasonably clean. The only minus point was 5 toilets only (they had closed the gents bit for repairs) which meant at times they could get busy or smelly or out of toilet roll. But generally they were in reasonable condition although perhaps needing a little more attention because of part being closed. The washing up space was big though. The individual sites were well spaced out and it seemed a good place for families with entertainment and small play area available. It certainly didn't feel cramped and had visitors from France, UK Holland and Germany. The receptionists spoke English well enough though appreciated (I think) our slightly iffy attempts at French.. One thing to be aware of is that in the village a lot of stuff is closed Sundays and Mondays including the small shop which is at risk of closing down altogether. This means that if you arrive on Sunday or Monday make sure you are stocked up as the camp reception only does a breakfast bread order and doesn't have many supplies. Tourist information (and bike hire) in the village is open Sunday Morning in high season but closed Monday and Tuesday. There is bike hire in the village of Beaujeau every day in High season but its about 12k away. Overall a very pleasant place - if you like your wine you are in for a treat and we loved the local walks through the vineyards. Cycling was good too with routes round the villages. We would go back and have recommended it to friends

Lovely site

Reviewed By Jillhaylingisland

We stayed for a week and loved it. We were the only brits there just a few Dutch and Germans. Mainly all french families and had such a great vibe, perfect and safe for young children. We booked through a company called ‘Allcamps’ as our normal Eurocamp didn’t get their act together in time for easing of travel restrictions. Our accommodation in a ‘Tithaus’! was comfortable and the onsite facilities were nearby and always very clean. Although it was french school holidays you could always get a sunbed any time of the day by the excellent large pool. Lovely little bar and restaurant with reasonable prices and great takeaway. Management were friendly, helpful and never in your face. Beautiful surroundings and backdrop and totally chilled and peaceful place, no noise at night and would be happy to return there in the future.
