The best available Bed and Breakfast Inns to stay near Troms

April 29, 2023 Jacquiline Delozier

From its snow-capped mountains to its mighty fjords, from grand valleys to tranquil lakes and lovely archipelagos, the county of Troms is bursting with natural wonders. To cap it off, it also plays host to the northern lights. Tromso, the capital, is the gateway to the region's rugged beauty, but with 65,000 people it's also a surprisingly rich city culturally, with many interesting museums and sites (including the world's northernmost botanical garden) and even a pulsing nightlife.

Amazing place, great service

Reviewed By paulmR2866KG

Disclaimer - we didn't even stay overnight here. Instead, we were stranded when our boat broke down and we spent along day in the hotel. The main house is incredible, a time capsule going back 100-200 years and beautifully furnished with antiques. Plus some stunning old photos on the walls. The restaurant is equally stunning in a very different way, being an old wooden trading post. It makes for a cosy and warm environment. Although not staying guests, the manager did everything to accommodate us with showers, food, drink and comfort along with a cheerfulness and occasional local history lesson. His efforts were very much appreciated, I can only imagine the service actual overnight guests receive. Oh, and they also played a seemingly endless stream of very cool music.

Great staff, modern facility with great view

Reviewed By Kwok Yuen L

Staff were very friendly - Thomas, Helde and Johanna made us felt like home. They were very knowledgeable and caring. The view from the room on each side were great. The breakfast were buffet style with good quality and value for money. We had fish for dinners twice and they were great as well. We stayed in a triple room. The room was modern, clean and spacious. The shower was hot with good water pressure. There are enough sockets in the room. There were beautiful scenic places with a short drive from the hotel. Finding a spot within walking distance from the hotel to take picture of aurora without much light contamination could be challenging though. The heating of the room felt like it’s centrally controlled and with the hard linen duvet sometimes I felt cold at night. We enjoyed our stay in the hotel a lot, and we would love to come back some time in the future.

Nice old hotel but quite remote

Reviewed By Rnaat_S

We stayed here because we thought the ice domes were close. They weren’t and not open until Dec 10. The manager of the hotel Is helpful and friendly. The hotel itself is old so very noisy. Breakfast is good but early (07.00-09.00). There is a supermarket next to the hotel but for dinner you have to go to Bardufoss (25-30km away). You can have dinner in the hotel but you have to prebook that. Our room is very nice and the beds are good.

A great secluded farm stay

Reviewed By warrenwendy

We (2 couples) were the only guests the night we stayed so we got personal service from Wenche and had the place to ourselves. The rooms were excellent, we had a walk around the island and dinner and breakfast there too. The breakfast was a norwegian style (no breakfast cereals) but we polished it all off including making sandwiches for our lunch after we left. Wenche picked us up from the jetty in her boat to take us to and from the island and was helpful and friendly. One of our group even fed the sheep with her. There is an interesting church next door which would be great for a wedding! We both had the larger bedrooms on the top floor which have better views and ensuite bathrooms.

Great beds, clean room and very friendly and helpful staff! I will definitely recommend Vollan Gjestetue. Room was actually nicer than the photos that they have on their own website. Only minus comes from food, which was expensive and mediocre.

I have recently stayed for 2 weeks here whilst working nearby. The guest house is excellent. Well decorated, maintained and cleaned regularly. Fuat (the manager) is friendly, organised and helpful. I could not have wished for a better stay and have nothing bad to say about this place. I would recommend to anyone I know and those I do not. I spend a great deal of time in hotels due to work and this is better than the majority of places I have stayed in the world. 5 stars - excellent

An okay stay

Reviewed By Paastainen

The hotel is situated by a gorgeous gjord. Our room was big and we the scenery was amazing. The beds were comfortable. The staff was friendly but told the breakfast wouldn't be as good as usually due to coronavirus which is understandable. There were just 2 men serving it so the wait was quite long. The bread and salmon were super tasty though. What we weren't satisfied with was the kitchenette: no oven, just a small, super slow hob. No coffee machine, no kettle, no towels or paper to dry your dishes, no dish rack where to put wet dishes. Luckily we had kitchen paper of our own in the car. You'd expect a 3-star-hotel to have a better equipped kitchen. Some of the food we had bought beforehand was hard to prepare there. The hotel was near nice walking trails.
