The best available Bed and Breakfast Inns to stay near Lenox

April 21, 2023 Randal Brittian

It seems like every time of year is "in season" in Lenox, a small Berkshire town that has been a popular retreat since the 19th century. In summer, picnic on the lawn at Tanglewood, the Boston Symphony Orchestra's summer home. In fall, when foliage peaks, take to the hiking and biking paths of the Pleasant Valley Sanctuary to immerse yourself in the vibrant colors of the mountains. Winter visitors enjoy skiing at a number of resorts and cross-country trails, and in spring, hikers and golfers practice their pastimes in splendid settings. Rejuvenating treatments and pampering, at the well-known Cranwell Spa, are favored all year long.

Three days of bliss (even our dog loved it)

Reviewed By EddieHenry

After 6 days with our grandkids in the eastern part of the state and a sick dog needing multiple nighttime walks in the miserable weather of Memorial Day weekend, we needed peace, tranquility and pampering. We got all of those and more at 33 Main. The Decor not surprisingly was beautifully designed. Our pretty room, The Aster ( one of 2 dog friendly rooms) was large and relaxing with both shower and tub. Our hosts during our visit were Donna and Becca who were friendly and warm and cooked outstanding breakfasts. The inn is so well located and you can walk most places. We took our dog for a very scenic hike at Kennedy park. The 3 restaurants we ate at, Zinc, Alta and Brava were all top notch. We loved the inn’s overall ambiance so much that we’ve booked a 4 night stay in September. Zero complaints, only praise!

Extra details make this stay fantastic

We stayed at the Cornell Inn for 3 nights. The inn has been completely renovated, and is very up to date and welcoming. The grounds are lovely--from the waterfall and koi pond to the grassy area where you can play a game of croquet. Tables are all around the pond on an outside patio. You can enjoy breakfast there, as well as your delicious, HOMEMADE sangria that greets you when you arrive! Lovely to sit outside with your (also complimentary), brandy in the evenings. There is a basket of cozy blankets available to use if you feel a little chilly. Nice common area with a fireplace, and a separate bar room that has a puzzle on a puzzle table that you can sit and work on while you enjoy a cocktail. Rooms are comfortable and well appointed. We had a complimentary bottle of local wine in our room, and a well stocked coffee bar. Shower was a good pressure, and not a measly trickle that is so common now. The breakfast is outstanding! Not just bagels and coffee here! This is a full sit down breakfast with a variety of excellently made options each day. Fritata was light and fluffy, great french toast, and choice of sides. You can also have a latte or cappuccino if that makes your heart happy :) There are warm brownies (Gasp!) available at any time, as well as a variety of teas. Owner and staff were friendly, helpful and genuinely wanted to please their guests. Easy, short drive into Lenox, and close to other Berkshire towns. Just a wonderful, wonderful stay @ the Cornell Inn! Would highly recommend you go for a few days.

Nice hotel in Lenox

Reviewed By lgsmith2016

Bed comfortable with nice bedding, and the room was clean and very pleasant. It was basic, though, and bathroom small, for the price. The only furniture in my room besides the bed was a pair of bedside tables, a small dresser with the TV on it, and a straight back chair. Hmmm. The bar is really nice though, and I had a very enjoyable light dinner there, sitting outside. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

My friends and I stayed here for two nights last week. The Inn is cozy and spotless. The owner was super accommodating and the breakfast was delicious. Our favorite part was the wine and entertainment that is available in the gorgeous candle lit bar area. The Inn is right near Tanglewood and Kripalu. I can’t say enough about it!

Whistler's Inn

Featured on The Travel Channel and Great Escapes, this 1820 English Tudor mansion in the heart of the Berkshires was once the home of the railroad tycoon Ross Wynans Whistler, nephew of the painter James M. Whistler. Close to Tanglewood and all major Berkshire cultural venues, Whistler's Inn captures the warmth and elegance of a bygone era. On six acres of gardens and woodlands and two blocks from the center of Lenox, this quiet antique and art-filled retreat has an extensive library and French music room with a Steinway grand piano. A buffet breakfast is served with recipes inspired by the cook's world travels (Spain, France, Israel, South America, Japan and Morocco).

charming inn, charming innkeepers

We were so happy to have discovered this gem of an inn just a short walk from downtown Lenox. Our innkeepers were very accommodating and made our stay one we won’t soon forget. The area is full of history of a time gone by and you also feel it within the walls of Whistler’s Inn as you wander through the many rooms and gardens with furnishings from the gilded age. My compliments to the innkeeper family who made our stay such a memorable one.
