Cheap and cheerful

Reviewed By JeremyKnott

We booked this hotel via Groupon and the price was cheap. As it’s out of town, I contacted them and reserved a table for the four of us that evening. When we arrived we spotted a sign saying the restaurant was closed so I discovered when we checked in. Yes it was closed!! No apology or explanation offered! After we went to our room I returned to reception to order drinks for the room. Upon returning to our room I received a call saying our drinks were waiting at reception! So I went and collected them. The white wine was undrinkable. The jacuzzi experience was very disappointing as the room is dark and dingy and smelt unpleasant. The room itself was ok mainly thanks to the terrace with with a nice view. Breakfast was ok, though the orange juice was from a can and the coffee not great.

Bells and chattter

We have visited the village but this was our first stay. Lovely boutique hotel. We stayed in room eight. A double balcony overlooking the tiny road. Bliss to fling open the shutters and hear the bells of St Anthony’s church and the chatter of locals. Breakfast was an extra E6.50 but worth it. Array of fresh bread, fruits, cheese and endless coffee. Honesty bar a nice touch as we stayed during Labour Day holidays and many bars were closed.

La Perla de Frigiliana

Located in the 'Campo' of Frigiliana you will find the beautiful estate "Los Tejanos' On this estate that covers over 25000 m² 'Cortijo La Perla' is situated. This original cortijo (=farmhouse) is completely renovated and equipped with all modern conveniences. The detached house with private garden and large swimming pool offers complete privacy. This romantic home has soothing atmosphere which includes a dining area to it with a large open kitchen. The three bedrooms all include their own personal bathroom including toilet, and can support 6 people comfortably. A washing machine, a completely furnished kitchen and outdoor kitchen with barbeque all add to the luxerious feeling of having your own home in sunny Spain. There are several patio’s and terraces with seating and comfortable sun-beds. In and around the entire property a free WiFi connection is available. Our "cortijo" is an hour's drive from Malaga Airport in the beautiful and unspoilt Andalucia. The location is a great base for visits to eg: Granada, Seville, Malaga, Ronda and of course fashionable Marbella. Also in the winter months it is wonderful skiing on the Sierra Nevada. The house is situated in a rural area between Nerja and Frigiliana. These places are both reached within 10 minutes from Cortijo La Perla. Frigiliana is an idyllisch and typical Andalusian village located north of Nerja. It was built against a mountainside and has retained its historical character and charm over time and a stroll through the winding, picturesque streets is definitely recommended. Frigiliana has plenty of nice terraces with stunning views. It is therefore not surprising that Frigiliana has several times been voted the most beautiful village in Spain. Nerja is on the Costa del Sol, about 50 kilometers east of Malaga. Nerja has approximately 16 kilometers of beach on which you can practice plenty of water sport activities. In the center of Nerja you will also find the Balcon de Europa, a promenade atop a cliff with a beautiful view point. From here you have a magnificent view over the Mediterranean Sea and allows you to see Africa in the distance. East of the city are a series of small beaches and secluded coves, separated by cliffs and other rockeries. Outside Nerja you will find the Cueva de Nerja (stalactite cave) where many archaeological finds have been made and where murals of 20,000 years old were found. The cortijo is situated in a rural location. A car is necessary to reach the location.

Loved staying in the garden room here at La Perla. We stayed 3 days with our son who was 9 months old at the time. Our room was perfect- so roomy and had the ability to be dark at any time of the day (for my son's naps). The crib they provided was excellent and he's never slept better in any other travel crib! We loved the honesty bar, the pool, breakfasts, going into town (our favorite restaurant was The Garden). Ugh it was incredible- take me back!!

An older style hotel but to be honest, much nicer than a modern equivalent. Wonderful staff and great breakfasts. We had a corner room overlooking the pool and the plaza opposite. Great people watching platform. This was only a two night stay as we were on a flying visit for family reasons but would absolutely book this hotel again.

B&B The Lost Village

The B&B The Lost Village is one of the most important houses in the village where part of the history is lived. We are in El Acebuchal or the Aldea Perdida, as many people call it, a place where nature, history and culture make you fall in love. We are located in the Natural Park of Sierras Tejeda, Almijara in Alhama where we are surrounded by the aromas of herbs, the Mediterranean breeze and the singing of birds. Our visitors are not only tourists but also foxes, squirrels, donkeys, donkeys, goats and at night wild boars. This village was destroyed during the dictatorship of Franco 1950 because the guerrillas took refuge in the area and the guerrillas were housed in the village, which is why the order was given to destroy the village. We are waiting for you! Virginia and Luc ( from Belgium).

Escape to the wilderness

We visited The Lost Village B & B during covid restrictions, at this time our travel was limited to Malaga Province. It is located in the small village of Acebuchal in the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama mountain range. Because of covid we were the only people staying at the B & B the hosts were very welcoming and made us feel at home. If the weather had been warmer we could have used the plunge pool on the terrace. Both the breakfast and the evening meals that we had were excellent. It is in a great location for a walking holiday and we managed to do three lovely walks in the time that we were there.

Attitude! How Not to Feel Welcome

Reviewed By Joy F

Living nearby in Frigiliana, having checked this hotel out, I booked it for my sister for 4 nights. Whilst she enjoyed the hotel and its location, it was spoiled by the very rude and dismissive attitude of the owner. What a shame! As a well travelled lady she'd never encountered such an appalling and ungracious reception anywhere in the world. Asking for anything felt like an intrusion and resented, unbelievable! - not the way to run a hotel. Very disappointing.

Another fabulous stay

Reviewed By catecate

My second visit, but first time with my partner. After a helpful experience when sadly having to cancel 2 years ago due to Covid it was brilliant to finally be able to go back again. Last time I stayed in room 1 (round bed) and this time room 2. We had a big suitcase so was glad we only had the one flight of stairs! The room was lovely and had shutters and a Juliet balcony looking onto the Main Street. With them open it could be quite noisy with tours and the little shop next door but closing them you could hardly hear a thing! There are a few steps into the room, where you have a lovely small sitting room/place to leave luggage. The basin and vanity unit is in this area and there’s a door to the bathroom and steps up to the bedroom area. The bathroom has a shower with rain head and rinser. It took a little getting used to not having the basin the bathroom! I love the interior design and quirkiness of this place, it’s beautifully done whilst keeping the character of the old house. The owners have clearly put a lot of thought into making the spaces work. The bedroom area is also lovely, it’s fairly small but the seating area makes up for this and it’s very light and the bed was so comfortable. Breakfast was really nice and fresh, I like that there’s limited choice - made me eat a little more healthily. Enjoyed it every morning and Patricia and Sarah who one of them will be serving each day are very friendly and welcoming. Another of the owner’s came on site one day and was also very helpful with a query I had. The only things I’d put on my wish list would be to have more hangers on the hanging rail (only 4) and a shelf or somewhere to put my toiletries in the shower. But that’s all. Absolutely love it here and can’t wait to go back. The people in room 3 next door asked to look round our room and invited us to see theirs. Room 2 has a lot more space but room 3 has a little balcony with seats overlooking the back courtyard. I just need to go back and see what rooms 4, 5 and 6 are like! ? The pool deck was lovely and has new chairs up there since I last visited. A bit too cold to go in the pool though - but it was open and I managed to paddle up to my knees! Thank you and Gracias El Torreon

Villa was lovely and spacious, quiet and so relaxing, we started to unwind as soon as we arrived. Our room was clean and bright and opened out on the pool area. The bathroom was a nice size, good size shower and the water was always hot. Breakfast for us was perfect, selection of meats and cheese and eggs cooked to order. Fresh fruits, pastries, fresh home made bread and the home made quince jam was delicious too ! It was lovely to be able to eat our breakfast outside.....perfect way to start the day. There is a bar with an honestly box and so we could always get chilled water and drinks ...such a good idea. Perfect spot to explore the area if you hire a car but also good bus service into town or up the hill to pretty Frigiliana. It is possible to walk up to Frigiliana but it’s steep at times so if you have mobility problems you may struggle. This is a really great place to unwind, it feels like a home and we couldn’t fault anything....we loved it.

Muy recomendable

Reviewed By Noelia C
