Delightfully charming

We recently enjoyed a 4 night stay during the Easter weekend in what was a wonderful experience. The two hosts were fabulous, the property beautiful and our room full of character and romantic charm. We were welcomed upon arrival with a glass of bubbles in the small, but pretty courtyard, having been dazzled by the decor of our room and magnificent view from the window. The breakfast was also of a very good standard and kitchen amenities plentiful. Highly recommended as a base for champagne tasting in the area

La Cave de l'Avenue de Champagne

La Cave de l'Avenue de Champagne

Perfect location at the top (or bottom?) of Avenue de Champagne in Epernay. Close to pretty much everything you might want to do in town. It's not a huge chain hotel, and doesn't have a large number of rooms. We had two rooms, on separate floors, which suited us fine. The rooms were large enough for two persons with (small) suitcases. Clean and comfy. One room had a safe, the other didn't, not sure if this was a coincidence, but I'm sure it could be discussed with the staff if needed. Wasn't an issue for us. We had dinner in the evening. Mainly a tapas-based menu, which was perfectly fine. The portions were large and filling, and went well with a bottle of Champagne. Breakfast was good. Very bread-based, but with high quality bread. Not a huge selection as in larger resort hotels, but what they had was high quality, and definitely enough to fill anyone up, and there was something for everyone. The staff was friendly and efficient. We were called on the day of arrival. There is a gap in the afternoon when the reception isn't staffed. We weren't aware of this, but since they called and informed us we could plan accordingly. It's understandable, since it's a small establishment. The hotel has a collaboration with a Champagne house down the road - A. Bergere - definitely worth a visit as well. Definitely recommended for a few days' stay in Epernay.

No hospitality, no effort

Reviewed By pavel_from_poland

We stayed for two nights. This is a true bed and breakfast as they offer very little beyond that. We booked the place based on the pics and description on their website. The website never informs you that the room has bars in the windows and that ALL windows are covered with semi transparent fabric so the room looks like a nicely furnished, dark prison cell. The pictures of the room outside attached to this review. Super overpriced for what it was. I communicated my dislike and was very happy to pay extra for a better room but they didn’t have any available. Following that there was zero effort to make the bad situation any better. Few months before arrival I communicated with them that it was my husband’s bday weekend trip, there was not even a note or happy birthday from any of team. Zero effort. A month before arrival I wrote an email asking asking about wine and champagne bars in the area. I was sent a generic list of local restaurants, none of them wine bars. Zero effort. There is generally zero effort and zero hospitality here. You get the key to an average room, you pay and beyond that nobody cares and nobody is interested. Honestly it was the biggest hospitality disappointment I had ever since we went to Sofitel Strasbourg two years ago. Complete disappointment and as a semi professional traveler I could never recommend this place to any of my clients based on my experience. Better places to stay literally next door, one a bit cheaper, one a bit more expensive but worth the extra cost.

Budget place in luxurious champagne destination

Reviewed By Iwona W

If your main interest is Avenue de Champagne or champagne cellars and you rather spend money on attractions than on luxurious bed - it's place for you. Hardly 15-minute walk to the centre of Epernay with main points of interest, shops and restaurants. The hotel is old and authentic with wooden staircase and floors, the owner is very nice but speaks totally no English nor any other language but his own French, have that in mind. Anyway he's very helpful, has little maps to show the way to what your're interested in. Rooms are poorly equipped and decorated in old fashion way, don't expect practically anything. But it's surprisingly clean and that's why many people choose this very small hotel anyway. If you want to sleep well - take the room at the back of the hotel, not the one overviewing the street, it gets very noisy in the early morning there.
