Lovely quant inn

We had a lovely anniversary stay here. The staff are friendly and accomodating. The lounge was relaxing and the meals, which are included with all rooms, were excellent! Only drawback was we were on the 3rd floor and that last set of stairs is very steep.

Need of refresh

Reviewed By Travelwilly

Stoweflake has been a favorite for many years. Unfortunately it seems the pandemic has taken a toll. It needs a refresh of its exterior. The parking lot has many potholes and the entrance by our room has stairs that the concrete is disintegrating. The rug by the door has seen better days as has the rugs leading to the rooms. The staff at the front desks of reception and the spa seem weary at best and need to remember to be more inviting to their guests. My husband and I have been coming here for 15 years and it's always been our favorite place in Stowe. It saddened us to see it like this and for the staff to be so unwelcoming.

Great Historical Hotel with unbeatable views. Stayed in the new presidential wing, much different from rooms in the main building. Many restaurants, bars, and coffee options. Hours/Days vary a bit for food/dining; you can get this pre trip online or they will give you all the information on a print out when checking in. Indoor and outdoor pool are heated and open til 10pm! Great views of the presidential range from just about anywhere on backside of the hotel. Sunset on the porch is amazing. Weeknights are far less crowded then Friday/saturdays.

Absolutely disgusting

Reviewed By Lukesurface

We booked a 3 bedroom condominium at the Equinox to attend our niece and nephew's graduation. We had stayed here in the past in one of the hotel rooms but needed more space for family that was joining us. We rented a 3 bedroom "recently renovated" town home with a full kitchen, dining room and living area. We arrived late in the evening and noticed the shower head was spewing water all over the bathroom when we turned it on. This was just the beginning. The furniture had wine and food stains all over the fabric on multiple chairs and stools. There were TWO coffee mugs and THREE spoons in the kitchen....for a 3 bedroom unit that sleeps 6 adults. Upon waking the next morning we were shocked at the condition of the bed linens and the overall state of the unit.

Overpriced and overrated

Reviewed By Monatravel1207

Attended a family function. It was overpriced and overrated. View was stunning, and grounds were well kept. Everything was clean, and staff was efficient and helpful. However, the signage needs to be improved; it sells itself as a large resort but has almost invisible signs and directions. Food was not as good as expected.

Located on the shore of Long Pond near Greenville, in Maine’s Moosehead Lake Region, and surrounded by 66,000-acres of AMC-owned conservation land, Gorman Chairback is the newest stop on AMC’s popular lodge-to-lodge ski route, as well as a spectacular wilderness destination on its own. Gorman Chairback offers unlimited opportunities for hiking and skiing on 70 miles of AMC-maintained trails, paddling and fishing for native brook trout, or simply enjoying the quiet beauty of the region. Newly refurbished private cabins include queen beds, wood stoves, and gas lamps. Home-cooked meals are served in the main lodge.

Delightful staff and surroundings

We spent three days and two nights at Gorman Chairback just a week ago. The cabin was a unique octagonal structure at the pond's edge just down from the lodge. Absolutely beautiful-- ducks swimming, loons calling and the wind soughing through the trees. The lodge staff provided wonderful meals, with breakfast and dinner in the lodge--buffet stylel for more Covid safety-- and bagged lunches prepared to take on daily outings. We hiked up to Third Mt and back, an easy to moderate 5.5 roundtrip hike, perfect for a couple of 74 year olds! The remainder of the trip was sitting on the shore and reading, while basking in the sun and enjoying the serenity of the Maine woods

Happy campers!

Reviewed By sarahjL2575KK

This was our second trip to Tyler Place and we could not be more delighted with everything about it. We have searched far and wide for similar experiences and there is simply no comparison. It really is like a summer camp with lots of really fun and like minded families. Our 4 year old begged to go back to “school” each evening and we had no guilt eating dinner each night with other grown-ups. The Tyler family is so welcoming and treat guests like old friends. The activity calendar is so varied and something for everyone with lots of sports and active outdoor adventures. The overall atmosphere encourages pushing comfort limits and highlights of our week included some light mountain climbing, lots of tennis and a triathlon. Accommodations are pristine in terms of cleanliness and housekeeping came every morning while we are at breakfast. I would describe the cabins as “church-camp chic”. Very comfortable and part of the vibe. For what you get in terms of quality and inclusives, the rate is a steal especially in early season. The child activity counselors are a great mix of local and internationally and programming exceeds anything we have ever experienced at a resort or daycare. They truly take care of everything. We have nothing but positive feedback on our past two years of visits and look forward to many more years of fun!

West Branch Pond Camps

Nordic skiing in paradise!

Reviewed By MikeBarry657

This winter we returned for our 10th nearly annual visit to West Branch Pond Camps near Greenville, Maine for several days of Nordic skiing. The snow gods were good to us this year, almost more snow than I've ever seen! Eric Stirling, the 3rd generation owner provides a mix of ungroomed and groomed skiing per the desires of your group. His marked trail network grows every year and is up to about 25 miles and will keep novices to experts happy. An extended ski tour is also possible as the camp is part of the AMC's 3-lodge system in AMC's 75,000+ acres with 100+ miles of trails. As awesome as the skiing is, the off-the-grid rustic ambience hits your experience out of the park. Your cozy wood-stove heated cabin is your main focus, but there is also a library/lounge that can be used for socializing. Dining is in the kitchen of the cook house and meals are hearty, and all made from scratch.

A Fantastic Experience, As Long as the Weather is Good

Reviewed By NeedhamAl

We just returned from a week at Quisisana. The model for the resort is irresistibly appealing: a gorgeous setting on a lake with mountain views, a waterfront with paddleboards, sailboats and kayaks, a nightly lineup of musicals and concerts featuring students and recent graduates of college theatre or music programs. and meals that have you nearly begging the staff for the recipes. The performers double as the waitstaff, cooks, housekeeping and maintenance teams and are not only quite talented, but are wildly attentive and super nice. When the sun in shining and the waterfront is bustling with guests who are on boats or simply swimming or jumping into the lake from the float dock, Quisisana is a veritable Shangri-La, a place to make vivid memories. But when rain overwhelms the place---as it did for four of the seven days we were there--the resort is about the last place you would want to be. With the raining pelting us for much of the week, we were left with few options. The lodge itself is small, and is the only place in the resort where there's wi-fi (note: If you are constantly tethered to your phone or tablet and need to be connected at all times, this may not be the place for you). There' are a handful of tables where you could play board games (and, to Quisisana's credit, they have plenty of games available to play). There's also a game room with ski-ball, a ping-pong table, and some pinball machines, though those were monopolized by kids (as would be expected) on the rainy days. There are no movie theatres or shopping within a close drive. So if you couldn't grab a table to play a board game, you were left with reading in your cabin or finding a space on one of the three or so sofas in the lodge to read or use your phone or tablet. With 140 or so guests staying at the resort, the lodge can't accommodate more than about 40 people. There are two large performance spaces where the staff could have run rainy day activities, but those possible contingency plans were simply not put in place. With climate change making its mark on summer vacations, perhaps the ownership should consider how the resort can respond more effectively to adverse weather; the guests are paying $610 a day and deserve better. The bottom line: You'll have the experience of a lifetime at Quisisana---as long as Mother Nature cooperates.

Fantastic Family Camp for Families with Kids: Fun Activities, Great Food and Beautiful Nature

Reviewed By SpendTimeTravelling

This is a review of the Medomak Family Camp (not the retreat center, which is slightly different) and will discuss the facilities, the food, the activities, the people, etc. (FYI, we are a family with 9-year-old twins.) Picture "sleep away camp" when you were a kid: rustic cabins, a casual and fun atmosphere, camp fires with s'mores, a beautiful lake for swimming, canoeing/kayaking, energetic counselors, arts and crafts, etc. Now picture you as an adult, participating in all those same things, but your kids are in one group (with kids around their age doing age-appropriate activities) while you, an adult, are hanging out with the other adults - doing beer and cheese tastings, archery, arts and crafts, tie-dyeing, hiking, etc. In other words, Medomak encourages both kids to be kids and “adults to be kids” and do as much of that fun stuff as you would like! (And for those adults that would prefer to sit by the lake fishing or reading in an adirondack in the shade, you can have a peaceful week as well.) For example, here is a sampling of a day (again, you can do ALL of it or NONE of it, your choice!): 7am – morning walk or yoga 8:30am – Breakfast together 9:30am and again at 11am – Activities for kids (e.g., nature hike, archery, or arts and crafts) and Adult activities (e.g., screen painting or “fermentation” where we pickled cucumbers and made mango chutney) 12:30pm – lunch together and hang out 2-5pm – family time at the lake (lifeguards are present) for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding and other small boating activities. In addition, there are arts and crafts at the lake. 6:30 - dinner together 7:30 – evening activity 8pm – camp fire with s’mores, singing, skits etc. Food: It is delicious!!! The vegetables are grown nearby and the food is made fresh (even the salsa), there are always vegetarian options or options for less adventurous pallets (e.g., one night we had paella, so there were hotdogs for the kids). In addition, they put the leftovers in a community fridge in case you would like to have a little snack. Oh, and there was a lobster night!! The chef was outstanding! Facilities: Rustic and beautiful. Each cabin has simple camp beds, dressers, rocking chairs, and a little bathroom with a sink, toilet and shower. The drapes are meant to provide a bit of privacy but not block out the morning light. And the sheets and blankets are all freshly laundered, but each family makes their own beds. There is no “house-keeping” or turn-down services. This is “camp”! :) The people: The staff are outstanding! Dave and Elianna run the camp beautifully! Jessie and Gavin were fantastic with the kids (they made nature “fun”!) We were there during astronomy week and Joel was so educational! And we loved doing art with Amy and Sally! The staff was really great! Nature: the camp is 20-30 minutes from the coast in the beautiful Maine countryside. Trees, meadows, wildflowers, fire-flies, etc. There are only a handful of landowners around the lake, so the lake is beautiful and pristine. The lake is a 5 minute walk from the cabins with its own private beach and boathouse, etc. What to bring: nothing fancy! (I.e., I did not feel the need to wear makeup.) Bring white t-shirts to tie-dye, mosquito repellent, an instrument to play around the camp fire, a water bottle, bathing suit and rubber shoes or rain boots (because even if it doesn’t rain, the dew on the grass in the morning will make your shoes wet). In sum, one month earlier we went to a 5-star, all-inclusive resort in Mexico that had several big waterslides and a huge kids club. And yesterday, as we were travelling home, both my kids asked if we could go to Medomak camp next year because they liked it better than the 5-star Mexican resort! And when I asked them to rate it on a scale of 1-10, they said “1 million”! So if you are looking for a family experience in nature, where the kids can run and do their own thing, and you as an adult will have just as much fun, I whole-heartedly recommend Medomak family camp. We hope to make it a yearly tradition!
