Third time lucky

It took us three times of trying to get to this hotel due to covid. We were really pleased with the hotel. Right on the seafront excellent views from the balcony. It was supposed to be a side sea view but we looked straight over the sea. There were enough sun beds no need to save them but some people always will! We found the food really good and a few speciality nights which we all enjoyed. Entertainment was hit and miss. Excellent Saturday night (the lady with the hoops). Other nights not as good. Rooms are due a makeover just to brighten them up. All staff were excellent and friendly. Our Grandchildren age 7 & 10 had a wonderful holiday. We like Roquetas de Mar as the Spanish holiday there as well.

Mediterraneo Bay Hotel & Resort

An inconsistent mess of a hotel, run bizarrely with Unfriendly and unwelcoming staff. Would never revisit or recommend

Reviewed By kwmullin

I do not usually leave reviews but I think people should know about this place. We travelled with Jet2 and are a family of 2 adults 2 children (3&5). Not an ideal start as the transfer coach left us at the end of the road with 2 kids, 4 cases and a buggy with incoming traffic. We could see the hotel was about 130 yards but with no actual directions. We crossed the road near some wheelie bins and made our way to the hotel. We were greeted by a very, unwelcoming, unfriendly and unenthusiastic receptionist! The main reception area, lounge and bars are however nice, tidy and modern. Our room was modern and tidy with two large beds. Unfortunately, a black hairball had been left in the bathroom sink. We were given a room on the 3rd floor with a beautiful view of the sea and mountains but the railing on the balcony was old and rusted and did not look safe. We stayed half board, evening meals in the main restaurant did not start until 7.30pm which in my opinion is too late to eat with small children. We were asked what we wanted to drink before we had been seated but no drinks menu was provided. The food in the main eating area was mostly good with fresh meat and vegetables /fruit. The kebab was a highlight. We ate once in the Italian restaurant which was mediocre. The snack bar outside was just disgusting, the only edible thing being chips, the man working there was very grumpy and seemed to follow the same attitude as others by treating foreign guests as an inconvenience! I was served a burger which was bright pink in the middle. Straight in the bin! Not much choice and no ice creams on offer which is not good for families. The main swimming pools were good and the slides were good. It was all decked around and the kids had fun in them but around the back area there was no decking so very slippy! Only half of the hotel swimming area has been upgraded with the non slip artificial decking. The outdoor toilets were very slippy underfoot and got wetter and more slippery as the day went on! Our little one slipped in there as did I, lucky it wasn’t a trip to hospital! There was a lot of work going on in the hotel at the time but this did not really affect our stay. On the Friday the hotel became hectic when large numbers of Spanish arrived for a weekend getaway. We felt it was positive that the Spanish holidayed there as we thought it said a lot about the hotel until we suddenly became invisible to staff with them being given priority over other guests! Big queues for meals and difficulty in getting a sun lounger! Sadly, was ignored at the bar when staff prioritised the Spanish over others who had been waiting before them! On the Sunday evening the hotel held a salsa event for locals where the main bar area was cleared away to accommodate this. As guests we no longer had anywhere to sit and relax in the evening as the priority seemed to be accommodating this. This ran from 5pm until 10pm and was never mentioned prior by Jet2 or the hotel. Most of the staff were quite rude and made you feel unwelcome with very few speaking English so this did cause some issues. As far as entertainment goes there was not much for younger families. There was a disco down a flight of steep stairs at 10pm!! which is way too late for young ones which consisted of a few of the animation team dancing around to baby shark. The hotel has some amazing and stunning views but did not have much going on. Very desolate with a few basic shops nearby, a few bars/restaurants and a rusty overpriced kids funfair. Very archaic. Not the most welcoming of resorts with uncomfortable stares from locals! The resort also only seems to open up on the weekends, it is very quiet during the week. Very surprised that Jet2 advertise as a ‘family favourite’ you can get much better for your money elsewhere. The hotel and resort do not appear to be overjoyed at foreign tourists! Not a place we will be revisiting! Or an area we would visit again either. When you spent this kind of money on a holiday this just isn’t good enough. Jet2 holidays need to drop this hotel.

Good family holiday

Reviewed By Rachel C

Overall we had a lovely family holiday, arrived late and they had plated up everyone a cold salad in the restaurant with a bottle of water, a very nice gesture! At first there wasn’t much on throughout the day for us to do, but on 1/6/22 everything changed. Kids club and activities started (all in Spanish so my son struggled), the restaurant had a cooking station making fried eggs, omelettes & pancakes at breakfast. Then 3-4 choices of meat or fish cooked fresh, also crepes and French fries at lunch & dinner. Food was nice and always something to eat (I am a fussy eater), but the food was a little repetitive. As others have said it is a very Spanish area and not many people/staff speak English. I believe her name was Rose at reception and she was a lovely lady who helped out with anything we needed from getting a taxi, pool towels and she even got my son into the local aquarium for free. The beach is pebbly and not sand, there are toilets, play parks and bars dotted along the way. You can get a bus at the roundabout if you walk straight up and turn right to the bus stop, we went on the bus to the local market (only on Thursdays)/grand plaza (has McDonald’s/Burger king) my son is a very fussy eater. Other shops include Toys r us, JD Sports and H&M. I do not speak Spanish so used google translate to help me! The hotel is dated but everything worked as it should and it is kept very, very clean. Day and night there were people cleaning all areas of the hotel. Our room was cleaned daily, bed linen changed once during our weeks stay, but bedding made every morning. I would visit again as we did enjoy our stay, but it would be better if I knew some Spanish words!

Enjoyable stay

Reviewed By Eric B

The quality of food was very good – buffet style and ability to choose your own amount of food. Bed very comfortable. Standard of cleaning excellent. Reception staff excellent. Room layout basic but adequate. Toiletries in bathroom in large bottles ( sadly a little watered down) which were better than the small bottles often available in other hotels. Soundproofing was very good indeed. The kids seemed to be very well entertained by a very enthusiastic clown. Downsides; towels thin, stupid headboard lights, checking in was the worst EVER – queue over an hour long (MUST be a faster way of doing it) and check out by 10:00 !

We 1st stayed here in 2019 and loved it so much we returned May 2022 for another 2 weeks, this time with friends as well as family. The staff are friendly and helpful, rooms are large (ideal for us as a family of 5) and the hotel is very clean. Both the outdoor and indoor pools are lovely and a fab view of the beach. Breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets all offerer plenty including fresh made to order items eg. Stir fry, pancakes, omelette etc. All Inc drinks were great and included premium brands. Location is fabulous, right on the beach where there's a stunning promenade that goes on for miles and some lovely little restaurants, bars and shops around.

Looks better than it is

We were a group of 10 Adults 5 children paying roughly £450 for 5 nights booked with love holidays. For the price we’d probably give it 4 out of 5. Pros: swimming pools which were out door, indoor, baby pool. Good choice of sun beds, close to beach, bathroom clean and seemed quite new, well functioning lifts, swimming pool slides, Some of the activities, drinks weren’t perfect but were more than ok. Cons: food - the All inclusion food was just about ok for our duration. Breakfast the best meal - plenty of choice. Lunch ok but sometimes had to just put bits of average things you might eat even if they don’t really go together. Dinner was more of the same but of a poorer quality. The meat was pretty awful, however no one went hungry. swimming pool is freezing and on a boiling day a quick dip in the outside pool is bracing but nobody really swam or played for long, not only because of the temperatures but because the pool is too deep for most adults to stand up so requires treading water or swimming. Beach - it looks idyllic but it’s shingles and sand and very sharp underfoot, the sea is not as clear and inviting as the pictures portray - there were several schools of jelly fish making it unwise to swim in. The whole beach doesn’t seem to have any life, there’s the odd restaurant, bar and gift shop but no real feel aside from dated and a bit tacky. The local area (within walking) is run down/under developed we struggled to find a decent open restaurant for a celebratory night out. There was a confusion with the transfer back to the airport and we needed reception to help explain the situation to our diver and show him our paperwork but he was unhelpful and quite rude - thank god for Google translate and an understanding driver but poor shout from the hotel - which was a shame as reception staff had been great until then.

Beach front hotel in quiet location

Reviewed By Stuart C

Our first impression on entering this hotel and our room is that it looks quite dark and dated inside and it really needs a spruce-up, both inside and outside to brighten it up and make it more appealing. Although the fixtures and fittings are old, the room and the rest of the hotel in general was clean. At least the furnishings match and are still usable! We also had a good-sized up-to-date flat-screen TV in our room and the towels were beautifully thick, soft and luxurious! And we had the biggest double bed I've ever seen! However, the walls must be quite thin because we had trouble sleeping with the bloke next door snoring loudly all night! All the staff were friendly and efficient, the food choices were excellent, well cooked and tasty, and there was never a problem getting a table for two at any time. The all-inclusive drinks package is good value for money. The pools and water slides are fantastic for kids and adults alike and safety was well controlled by two dedicated lifeguards. The animation staff worked hard to keep the guests entertained! The hotel is on the seafront in a quiet part of Roquetas de Mar, just a 10-minute walk to the Gran Plaza shopping centre, 30 minutes to the marina and castle and a 1-hour coastal walk to Aquadulce. Bus stops for a regular bus service to Roquetas and Almería are located on the main road near the Gran Plaza. Overall, this hotel grew on us and we would certainly return, but we'll be armed with mosquito repellent next time!

Worth the money for a 6 day break!

Reviewed By wingrovecv1

Booked 1 month prior to going here as a last moment holiday before our baby is due, we wanted to relax 1 last time just ourselves. There are many positives and very few negatives - which I why I give it a 4 out of 5 experience. Hotel room very clean, spacious, modern, well kept. Felt very strange having 2 thin cotton sheets as you quilt cover, but it didn't stop having a great sleep on a very comfy mattress Wide variety of food on offer at all 3 meal times of the day, all fresh and cooked well. Always found something to eat and as a fussy easter it was a relief!! Snack bar was rarely open, I wouldn't rely on it if you miss breakfast. You'd either have to pay the hotel to cook breakfast, go out the hotel or wait until 1pm for Lunch. Staff were very friendly, and helpful. Reception is operating 24 hours a day, members of the entertainment were always around trying to get everyone involved in the activities which ran from 10am till 6pm. Pool area was very clean, lots of sun loungers to choose from, Pool was big and fresh right on the beach if you wanted to spend a day on the beach instead Bars on site, as the holiday went on I felt slightly let down with these, especially towards the end when the hotel was at its busiest. First of all, I don't blame the staff on site, I would blame whoever does the recruitment. There are 3 bars on site, but the pool bar was the only one open during our stay, from 11am until midnight. This is where the entertainment in the evening also took place. During the day the queues for getting drinks aren't too bad, hit and miss, you could be waiting 2 minutes or 10 minutes at max. The evening however wasn't great for the queues, you were easily waiting 15minutes for a drink, I think 1 time it took me 30 minutes. Again, I don't blame the staff on site, they always had 3 behind the bar working as quick as they could but if the management above hired enough staff to open the other bars, you wouldn't be having this issue. I'm guessing due to covid, they may not want to overstaff but then it's costing the chance of people not wanting to return. Overall we have a great 6 days relaxing by the pool, eating and drinking as we pleased. Sun was amazing, music by the pool. For the price we paid for 6 days, I would come back again at the same rate.

Average hotel

Arriving at 10-15 we were greeted by what can only be described as a school rehersal for a dance show in the reception area. This was so loud we could not hear the receptionist when they were talking to us. This went on every night for a whole week in some format or another so that we could not find anywhere in the hotel bar area for a quiet drink. This debacle of what they deem to be entertainment carried on every night. but they then moved it outside. The poor residents in rooms near the patio area would not have managed any peace and quiet till after midnight even if they want it. The "entertainment" team were not in keeping with the demographic of the clientelle. Rooms were tired and even the superior double was mediocre and by no means superior. A basic hotel room but with a kettle. The room however did have a good view of the sea and was very clean if somewhat tired and needing some attention. Breakfast was good and there was plenty of choice with freshly cooked eggs, omlette and meat. We tried the hotel for dinner one night and felt conned. The soup was luke warm as was the so called hot dishes and the veg was overcooked. The only good part was the freshly grilled fish. When I complained at reception the young man said "well I eat there and like it". That was the result of the response to my complaint. 45 euro for nothing and we had to go elsewhere to eat afterwards. This hotel is lovely around the pool with a beautiful reception area but they need to up their game somewhat. Flamenco night needs a traditional guitarist and not recorded music, and some local singers on other nights or local artists would enhance the entertainment experience and stop most of the clientelle leaving the hotel for other venues. We did enjoy our stay and met some lovely people but it could have been so much better than it was. The pool is warm enough not to feel chilled and very pretty. Lots of activities in the day if you wish to join in. Lovely walks along the beach to local beach bars. We will return at some point
