Terrific wee place

Reviewed By katharine l

I booked this place for the last night of our two week holiday in France as it was only an hours drive back to la Rochelle airport. It was a great choice. The B and B is in a narrow backstreet of a tiny village and is an oasis of calm. The three rooms are all individually decorated as described on booking.com where this property is listed. We stayed in 'O naturel'. This was a good choice as it is probably the only room that other guests do not have to walk past to access their own rooms. We were able to sit on the shared balcony outside our room until dark. It was decorated in beige tones with artistic flair and great attention to detail and design. There was interesting artwork and great fixtures and fittings. There is a kitchen in the property were we could use the fridge and fancy coffee machine. Breakfast was wonderful. It did not look like anything special initially but then we realised that the jam was homemade, we think the yoghurt was too. The pastries were far nicer then any i have tasted elsewhere and the bread and fruit very fresh. I think our hostess even made us fresh fruit juice. This was all served in the sun on the terrace with tablecloth, cushioned chairs etc. The property is old but recently converted and very comfortable. The weather was exceptionally hot during our stay and i found it difficult to sleep with the heat. There were also some tiny tiny insects which seemed to love me but some insect spray seemed to do the trick and they did not bother me any more after that. The area is very unusual, flat with marshes and oyster farming. We only had time for one outing and were drove to mornac-sur-seudre which only took 10-15 minutes. It is a charming small town with a winding street leading to a small inland port. There are artists and restaurants lining the street which made for a pleasant evening stroll. We had galettes at the cafe des arts. I would definately recommend O chambres d'hotes as a relaxing place to stay and the hostess is very kind, generous and friendly. We paid 70 euro for a double room including breakfast and parking and with toilet and shower inside the room and use of fridge and coffee machine in a separate room.

Wonderful, relaxing spot!

Stayed three relatively intensive days here, exploring this amazing oyster area, and it was a joy to come back here to this quiet but beautifully maintained gîte. A really nice welcoming couple make you feel at home. The rooms are generous in size and very comfortable, modern and tastefully furnished. There is a large swimming pool on the property and the gardens are nicely kept, In the morning a well-laden breakfast table greets you and nothing seems any problem for Nadine and Jean-François who knows everything there is to know about oyster production in the Marennes-Oléron area. Would love to come back some day!
