Adelboden

Hidden in the Bern countryside half way up a mountain (literally) is the touristy village of Adelboden.
It's an all year round attraction - hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. It caters mainly to Swiss families who have been visiting for generations.
There are bars, cafes and cake shops galore as well as sporting shops and a good size coop supermarket.

Tschentenalp

Allthough we are commenting to the topic of Tschentenalp in general, we thought it worthwhile to mention how nice the sledging was.
There are two slopes, one for beginners (#7) and for intermediates (#8). Both offer a fun and not too long / not too short experience, which is a definite recommendation in case you are in the area.
Last, but definitely not least: the guy at the rental place was very friendly, who offers to try all sorts of fun-looking stuff besides sledges as well. Maybe next time!

Pick up your scooter (or trotti as they term it) at the top of Sillernbuhl, get your helmet on, check the brakes work and hurtle effortlessly down a well-prepared metaled track to the Berlglager station some 500 metres down. You can continue to the bottom station at Oey if you wish. Great fun, I felt like a kid again!!!

Trummer Woodcarving

Reviewed By KimM750 - Exeter, United Kingdom

Part of my annual return holiday to Adelboden always includes a visit to the woodcarving shop (the life size Bambi and eagle in the shop window are truly incredible) where I'm greeted like an old friend. This year I also made the effort (minimal with the glorious views, or you can get the bus to Nueweg and walk a shorter distance!) to visit the workshop a little out of the town.
I was delighted that I did, as you get to watch the family members of wood-carvers at work - if you find glass-blowing of interest, you'll love seeing flat pieces of wood being carefully transformed into, on my visit, marmot fur! Amazing!
Just to clarify, you are politely asked not to touch the items because any handcream or suncream can adversely stain the wood and mean the item can no longer be sold.
A trip to the wonderful house next door for tea, gorgeous homemade cake or soup is also a fascinating experience. It is a family home where they have added a small room onto their kitchen and offer refreshments. You get a real feel and insight into Swiss family life.... nothing like the large, somewhat impersonal restaurants at the top of Mountains.
Another wonderful visit to my favourite Trummer family!

Escape Adelboden

Casinoraub in Adelboden!

Sehr empfehlenswert!!

We tried out the new Escape which is classic escape room where you need to rob the Casino in 60mins. The intro video was suitably cheesy and the puzzles were pretty good. We managed to get out with 5 mins to spare and this is with a team who barring one person have never experienced an escape room before. Good fun.

Adventure Park Adelboden

Reviewed By Rangerguide - Glasgow, United Kingdom

I was a Leader with 20 members of Girlguiding. The youngest 11yrs the oldest 72yrs.
We spent the morning there. Set across a gorge, by a road bridge, our group was impressed. There was various zip-wires, The instructors were calm and patient and could speak english. The equipment was great, time was taken with each member to make sure the harness & helmet was fitted correctly. There was a ground level zip wire that everyone was encouraged to practice on before the instructor allowed them to proceed onto the first level zip-wire.
We also had members afraid of heights (myself included) so we sat on the picnic benches next to the small hut which sold basic tea & coffee and fizzy juice.
There was no pressure from instructors to keep going higher, or going onto the rope bridge or abseil.
My only reservation was the access to the site. We walked, from Adelboden. Taking the road that led down past the outdoor pool, which was quite a steep road, at the bottom you cross a bridge and follow a path that runs alongside the river. The scenery was beautiful. Unfortunately the path was in poor repair, looking as though it had been washed out by the river at points.. We had 2 members with mobility issues who found it hard going.
The return to Adelboden we split into two groups, one returned the way we came. The other took a steep footpath up to the bridge, crossed over and walked another 5-10mins along the otherside of the gorge to the bus stop and took a bus back to Adelboden.
Would recommend this for teenagers and young at heart ( our 72yr old zip-wired )

Visited in 1983 as a child and now returned with children of my own.
It used to be a 50m pool with diving platforms but they closed off the deep end of the pool turning it into 25m with sun deck.
It's still fantastic free fun with a cafe and a trampet and toddler pool!
Discussions locally about spending lots of money on renovations so ...
