It's a lovely place and well appointed but upon arrival I was told there was an additional fee (resort fee? although there was no resort amenities...) There were empty cottages but I was given a room underneath an upstairs unit and it was noisy. The place is in a good location, just check the rates and the room first!

DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE PICTURES!!

POSITIVE: Clean and good location NEGATIVE: Tired and worn down property. Grounds were unkemp (rotted out fences, bags of garbage sitting out, walkways in need of sweeping, and more!), stains on carpet and comforter, walls and furniture scuffed/scratched and in need of paint, minimal room amenities. Pool/hot tub area was closed and we were not made aware before booking. Breakfast consisted of a small apple, apple juice and packaged muffin. All this is good and fine, if you are paying $150 a night for the room, but I paid $380 a night. Definitely a rip off. Don't waste your hard-earned money.

Ants...with beautiful views

Ants in the bathroom. Ants in the shower. Ants on my hairbrush and toothbrush. Ants on the toilet. Ants on my bed. Ants in my shoes. I don't know what else to say except please spray for ants. This is a beautiful place but expect ants in the rooms. Some rooms apparently more than others. If you are coming for a conference, note there are no irons or ironing boards in the rooms. Bring walking shoes and iron-free clothes. There are beautiful paths everywhere so enjoy the views and solitude.

This place is in need of TLC

We have stayed at this inn off and on over the years and have always been happy with it, but our most recent stay was not as nice. This inn needs some TLC. The rubber mat for the bathtub looked moldy, the flooring in our room was in need of repair or replacement. Will probably look for another place to stay the next time we’re in the area.

- location is very good, close to the beach, 10min drive to the center - very big room, plenty of space - lots of parking - loved the photo of Jack Nicholson in the lobby - breakfast is very basic, but okay - book a second floor room if you can. If there is a room above you, you can hear everything

Deceptive Business Practices - Stay Somewhere Else

Reviewed By rrbooth

On Wednesday, February 16th 2022 at 3:44 pm (all times Central), I received an email titled Reservation Confirmation from [email protected] for a reservation I made at the Monarch Resort for Thursday, October 13th until Monday, October 17th. On Thursday, May 19th at 7:44 pm I received an e-mail from that same e-mail address titled Reservation Cancellation, no reason was stated. At 8:17 pm I emailed back questioning why it had been cancelled. At 8:26 pm I called the hotel. The person who answered said that that e-mail address was used exclusively by the owner and she had no access to it. She stated that they had switched to a new reservation system and that might be why the reservation was cancelled. I asked her to reinstate the reservation and she said there was a big group booked in there on those dates and there weren't rooms available. I explained to her that that is not how reservations work and she had me forward the e-mail to an address she had access to in order to "research the issue further." I never heard back from her. At 10:24 PM I received an e-mail from Dianne Mahroom using the owners e-mail address. She gave me the same story as on the phone. She didn't know how the reservation got cancelled but they were fully booked. I responded that I didn't believe her. She replied that she would see what she could do and I said don't bother. I am grateful that I learned this before staying with them and will not have to be subjected to further deception on their part. I don't know which is worse; having to listen to such a poorly thought out lie or being treated like I would be stupid enough to believe that in the 42 minutes between when the reservation cancellation e-mail came and my phone call to them, that they would have coincidentally have received a booking that sold out the hotel. Stay away from these people. They cannot be trusted.
