Beautiful lookout to the ocean and surrounding Beaches and area. The hike up is well worth it.
For any foreigners looking to head up the ridge, transportation may be an issue since it is outside the city. Recommend to go as part of a tour group or hire a taxi for the trip there and back.
While there are no entrance fees, walking the paved road up the hill is free, or 30rmb/pp for the bus ride up.
When we came to the entrance of the area, we were told by a tour guide that foreigners weren't allowed since it was a military installation. We waited until he left then kept going. There were no security checkpoints anywhere, and a lone guard far away from the summit. I must mention this in case the situation changes in the future..traveller beware!
Wenchang makes a great daytrip, however roads are quite bad once in the city limits and touristy areas are far apart.

a good place to learn some history of the family of song, for transport wise best make your own transport as taxi there is very little, you also can enjoy some peace and quite as there is not much visitor there

The mangrove is well maintained. It is clean - as far as a mangrove can be. After all, it's still a swamp, but they do a good job keeping litter away. The area itself starts with a wooden bridge which you can ride on and if you keep going, it turns into a concrete then dirt track which is for walking only.
There was literally not a soul there when we visited - so it could have been a beautiful and slightly adventurous nature walk. However, we brought our 2 year old along and this place is not suitable for youngsters. Wet, with a relatively narrow walking track and large pockets of water on either side - this is not where you want to bring a curious and wild-running toddler.
If you are an adventurer looking for a bit of easy exercise, a lovely walk and spending time in a shady foresty area, this place definitely fits the bill.

While its important not to get expectations too high, apart from lots of trees and some small towns there's very little to see. Along the beach some hotels, very touristy spot selling stuff made from coconut shells. Prices for coconuts were 6rmb, same as anywhere else these days. Was hoping for a little educational info about the industry, uses for cocoonuts, etc. perhaps one day there will be a coconut museum where we can learn about it.

I was in Wenchang City for 2 days. We took the bullet train from Sanya to Wenchang. The train fare was RMB64.50 per person and it took only 1 hr 37 mins to reach Wenchang from Sanya Train station. I am impressed with the speed of the bullet train that traveled at about 200 km per hr. There is not much scenery along the way as the route passed by lush green paddy fields and plantations. On arrival at Wenchang Train Station, we took public bus no. 6 to Wenchang City. We stayed at Long Yuan Hotel which is within less than 5 mins walking distance from this Confucius Temple.
There is a guard sitting at the front entrance but he only stopped vehicles from illegal parking in the temple compound. Only visitors to the temple is allowed access to the parking lots. The entrance charge to the Temple is RMB15.
I had visited the Confucius Temple in Beijing and also in the town where Confucius was born - Qufu. This temple in Wenchang city is such a very miniature version that I found it awkward to associate the temple with the Great Sage. Nevertheless, the temple compound is cleaner and much well maintained than the local street view in Wenchang city.
Wenchang City did not impress me as a clean city. Houseflies roam in restaurants and coffee houses and the dilapidated shop houses and infrastructure added a stint of gloominess to the city.
But this city boasts to the world as the birthplace of more than 60 great Chinese military generals and also the birthplace city of the infamous Song Sisters that had great influence in China contemporary political history. It is also the birthplace of the many successful overseas Chinese businessmen who thrive in foreign lands and in figures, more than one million of them actually migrated from Wenchang.
I wonder what were the factors that contributed to the success of these many military generals, infamous political figures and overseas Chinese. Could it be due to the blessings of this historic Confucius Temple. But then, these eminent businessmen and generals were not those who were credited with Confucius scholarly academic qualities. In fact, Wenchang has never produced any eminent scholars who exceled in the Imperial Examinations based on Confucius texts and doctrines.
And that was the reason why the main door of this Confucius Temple was never open. You can only access to the temple by the side door.
There is nothing touristy inside the temple. The main statue is still the Confucius statue, nothing much. We can also visit another temple opposite the Confucius Temple that houses the Lao Tze, the father of Taoism. There is also another Buddhist Temple at the top of the slope behind this Confucius Temple, just dropped by to see both temples when you visit this main Confucius Temple. Both are free admission.
The Confucius Temple is an iconic attraction in Wenchang city. Beside the Wen Nan Old Street and this Confucius Temple, there are no other attraction in Wenchang City.
