It’s a motel in the UP, what’s to expect?

Sure, the interior design is a bit dated. Sure, it’s not exactly the most modern. But it was decently quiet and it was clean for us. The full kitchenette was a nice touch with plenty of cutlery and plates. If you need a place to rest and nothing much more, it’s a great little spot. The views of the lake are incredible too! There’s a limited selection of pastries and breakfast items, but it’s free so I’m not complaining. I can’t speak for those who had a poor experience recently, but I had a decent stay here. Tldr: It’s basically a time capsule motel from the 1960s, but it’s a fine place to stay for a few nights.

Terrace Motel

Nestled against the hills which semicircle Munising, the Terrace Motel is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, 3 blocks off busy M-28. Open year round, the Terrace offers rooms with one bed, two beds, and also some two-bedroom units. All rooms are ground level, with at-door parking. Coffee is served in the lobby every morning. A recreation room includes a full kitchen, pool table and sauna; outside is a built-in charcoal grill, picnic table, play area, and firepit. Snowmobile trails pass directly behind the motel, and there is a heated garage area for snowmobile repair.

Good No Frills Choice

We have stayed here several times, and on this visit we learned the previous owner has sold the Terrace to another motel in town, so it's no longer under Larry's care. The Terrace remains a good no frills motel. It is unbelievably quiet and the bed is comfortable and the room clean, but don't expect a lot of extras. Right now, because of Covid and difficulty hiring staff, the lobby is not open for coffee and there is no coffee in the rooms. Housekeeping will not service your room unless you request something. We did not, but our overhead light was out and as the room only has two lamps, it was too dim for reading. We could have called for a light bulb, but it seemed like a hassle. Housekeeping should regularly check all lights when guests are checking out to make sure everything is in working order. The shower was newly caulked, but it was obvious from the musty smell that the caulk was hiding mold underneath. There is no table in the room but there are two chairs. There is also a desk and dresser. If you want to hang clothes, a space is available, but our room only had three hangers. Like to lock your bathroom door? You can't if you are in our room because there was no locking mechanism. Two door knobs and empty space in between. People have commented on the price, but the motel charges what they can get, and the Terrace is a budget motel when you consider what every other motel and hotel are charging in town. We paid $100, which is too much for the motel of this standard, but it is the best deal in town. It is quirky, but if you are looking for a quiet place and don't care about decor, this place is fine.

Great stay

Reviewed By ItchyFeetBTS

This property has been recently redone, but the color scheme was brown – kind of dark and depressing. But, it was absolutely spotless and quite comfortable for a couple of nights. Our room was large and we appreciated the mini-fridge. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. There was a pre-Covid kind of buffet breakfast with eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, breads, etc. – and waffles made to order – quite nice. It was a bit out of town, so not walking distance to anything, but just a short drive to restaurants and shops. We’d certainly return.

Bad experience overall

Reviewed By LHSidewinder

Book this place for a snowmobile trip Friday through Monday. First of all the remote for the TV would not work and the manager told us that all the tv remotes had problems while telling us her Ambien was kicking in. Water pressure in the bathroom sink was so strong that water would splash around everywhere. Ice machine was broken in the lobby. We were charged 12% tax 6% sales tax 6% tourist tax. Someone had wrecked into my snowmobile require us to leave Sunday instead of Monday and the manager said we could not be reimburse as they have a 48 hour policy. She did inform me that if they could get our room rented that they would only be able to credit me back partially. I will never come back here. The room had a dingy smell to it that i didn't care for as well.
