Wedding of the Decade

Reviewed By Peter C

On 4th September 2021 Antoinette and Keith and their family hosted the most fantastic wedding reception at Les Marguerites for our daughter Erica and son in law Cameron. Many guests stayed in this charming private hotel with its new outdoor heated pool and availed of the superb facilities. All our guests at the wedding waxed lyrical at the ambience, the gourmet dining and the top class service from the entire family. No request was too much trouble and the outdoor sunny garden was a fabulous backdrop for the wedding banquet which continued to the wee small hours. The following day we had a second sumptuous luncheon feast dining alfresco for over 100 guests. It truly was the romantic wedding of the decade and a weekend to cherish for ever. Thank you Antoinette and Keith!

L'hostellerie de l'Eveche

In the heart of the area famous for its catharistic castles. 30 Km from Carcassonne. In the peaceful 7.5 acre park of a former bishop's palace turned into a comfortable hotel. Gastronomic and tourist menus, large rooms for banquets, seminars and business meals.

Lovely Experience

Reviewed By SelbyDale

We were based at L' Hostellerie de l' Eveche to explore the Cathar Country. The hotel is set in the stunning grounds of the Old Bishop's Palace in Alet-les-Bains bordering the Aude River. Once you cross the river to enter the town, you are in another century. The rooms at the hotel are basic but very clean. There is no TV in the rooms which perfectly reflects the quiet of the grounds. The only sound is that of the running river. What really shines is the ambiance of dinner served outside under the wise auspices of an enormous, ancient tree. The food is good and plentiful. This is an area of France with hearty cooking and this is reflected in the menu. Madame oversees dinner and the delightful servers. Every day we returned to the hotel looking forward to a lengthy dinner in that beautiful setting. On one level, this is a very basic two-star hotel; on another, a five-star experience.

A very pleasant week.

Reviewed By CB R

My wife and I have just spent a delightful week, in our mini-tourer caravan, at this site. As caravanners/campers of more than 40 years' experience, we know what we want in a site, and were only slightly disappointed here. Having said that, the end of January - beginning of February is a time when most camp-sites are closed, and when those that are open are dealing with general repairs and renovations. The young couple who manage/own the site are very friendly, and although my French is more than passable, their ability to speak some English would be helpful to many. On our arrival, the husband immediately explained that there was no hot water, but that he hoped to have it flowing again on the following day. This was not a problem to us and, to his credit, the hot water was available later that night. The facilities are well kept, and the showers are included in the reasonable price. Because we were there for a full week, we even benefited from a 15% discount - always welcome! Pizzas are available - but we didn't ask that the oven be fired up just for us. However, I suspect that, if we had done so, then we would have been catered for. There is no need to bring an alarm-clock!!! The church building, just behind the site, has a clock that chimes for 0700! However, although we were awakened on our first morning, it didn't seem to bother us after that! There was also some road noise - but when the trees are in full leaf, I would expect that to be lessened. The site was, in fact, very quiet - even at the week-end when a number of people who have static caravans sited here, arrived. Everyone, as is usual among 'campers', was very friendly, and even when we interrupted a game of boules that was being played on the roadway as we left to do some sightseeing, we were waved through - the waves accompanied by big smiles, and one deep bow!! There is virtually nothing to do in the village apart from visiting the church building, and the next-door ruins, or spending time at the Casino ( I was actually looking for the Geant Supermarket!!), but Limoux is just 10 kms away and, in season, has a multitude of museums, events, etc. We also visited Carcassonne, and Perpignan. There is a free wifi connection - but one does have to log on again every hour! The only lack was the use of the washing-up sinks, as the push-taps were missing! I have no doubt, however, that all will be operating fully by the Spring. A washing machine, and tumble-dryer are available - tokens purchased at Reception.

Alet is a gorgeous old village in a great location for touring the area. L'Escalette is a fine B&B with welcoming, friendly hosts. The house is very old with a quaint garden. The rooms are spacious ,have high ceilings and exposed beams.
