South African National Parks

Reviewed By Mono_Jockos - Barcelona, Spain

Excuse the title - how could visiting Kruger National Park be anything other than amazing? I just feel I use these adjectives too often as I have been lucky enough to experience such wonderful/amazing things...
We were picked up before dawn from Ingwenyama in the howling wind and driving rain and were driven for more than an hour in these weather conditions - knee blankets were provided.
Before you think it was horrible, it wasn't. If it had been super-sunny at 7am there would have been no animals to see as they would have been hiding in the shade, so the seemingly terrible weather for us resulted in better weather for the critters and so we had an amazing time seeing them in their natural habitat.
The entrance situation was sorted out for us as we were with an organised tour, but it may take ages for individuals, as it wasn't a very timely process for us. However, once into the park our driver took us along well established routes (no alternatives) but we were lucky enough to see a spotted hyena and nobody in any other
vehicle comprising our group managed to see one!
We saw loads of elephants which makes me feel really positive about their conservation efforts in the face of constant poaching - they 'might' even have more than legally allowed, based on hectares necessary per animal - but I heard this from a bloke in the bar so don't read too much into it ;-)
After two hours of extensive looking we saw many different kinds of animals and some pretty amazing rock structures.
The café/restaurant where we ate was good - it could have been a lot worse and a lot more expensive, but it was pretty much burgers...
Another thing ticked off my 'bucket list' - it would be incredibly rubbish for anyone visiting SA not to visit Kruger, and all money goes to conserving this wonderful park and its inhabitants!

I would highly recommend Safaria as the preferred operator for all Kruger Park game drives. The booking process was uncomplicated and we were kept up to date with any requirements for entering the park and the game drives well in advance.
We were fortunate to experience both the morning and afternoon game drives with guide and owner Andrew Wagner. He has an immense passion for the Kruger Park and nature, with a 'David Attenborough'-like ability to share natural, historical and social facts about the park in a relaxed, story-telling manner.
If you have limited your expectation of game drives to just wildlife sightings, be prepared to have your expectations exceeded with Safaria. Their approach allows you to have a personal appreciation of the park from the ground up through better understanding of the geology and flora. As a result, wildlife sightings are more meaningful and memorable. Added benefits such as your own complimentary journal allows you to keep track of all sightings during the drive.
The game drives with Safaria were 5 star experiences - well done, we will be booking your services again.

We love going to the Casterbridge Cinema, meeting up with local friends and friendly locals, and settling down with wine and good company to watch one of the "boutique" type special movies shown every week. The cinema has some interesting objets and photos, and is situated in the lovely, intriguing Casterbridge Centre. Afterwards, have dinner at one of the restaurants in the centre, all fun, with varying menus.
This is not your usual cinema. Its small and intimate...love it!

Ntwanano Tours & Travel

Tour Operator with vehicles for Kruger PArk Safaris, Tours and Transfers with footprints in South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland

Reviewed By SmallGirlInABigWorld

Working with Sertorio was difficult at best. I tried to arrange a custom tour including Kruger, Swaziland, and Mozambique. He wasn't responsive when I asked questions, but was demanding when he asked questions. The price was very high and I tried to negotiate down a little and he was unreceptive. I should have gone somewhere else at that point, but his reviews were good, so I was willing to pay. I prepaid via wire transfer and he said he didn't receive it only to "discover" that he didn't realize that the money had cleared a month earlier. The saving grace was that he was injured and had someone else do our tour.
Our first guide was beyond spectacular. He gave us such a fantastic tour of Swaziland and Sertorio gave him no information about the things I wanted to see. He adjusted as we went, made sure that we got to horseback ride in a game preserve (something Sertorio said want possible), answered all of our questions, and made all of the arrangements that Sertorio should have made.
The Kruger guide was amazing! He searched for a leopard for us and made a stop for an incredible sunset view.
The worst of the experience was that Sertorio insisted that there was a fee for the driver to do an overnight, he didn't arrange for the hotel for our guide and didn't pay for it, even though I paid over double the amount of the room in the fee. He also didn't tell the Kruger guide that I had already paid for entrance to Kruger as part of the package, so l had to pay out of pocket. He ended up transferring money back to me, but it was a bit of a fight and took weeks to arrive.
Do your due diligence before booking with this company.

This amazing little market just gets better and better and has now been running for just over a year and is a great place to spend Saturday morning.
Every second Saturday of the month, try and get there early as parking is at a premium and bring cash as there is no ATM.
Great food stalls, both to eat on site and fresh produce.

Africa Joy

After Reading all the positive reviews on Tripadvisor my husband and I just had to pay Africa Joy at the Casterbridge Centre a visit during our recent stay in White River.
Africa Joy is not just merely a beautiful boutique gift shop. Africa Joy supports high end community uplifting projects and local individual crafters.
All the products on display are of high quality and you are guaranteed to find that something extra special. Africa Joy boasts décor items, home ware and local jewellery to name a few.
Personally my favourite items were the Le Lapin porcelain items, which was something totally different and absolutely beautiful.
I will rush back to Africa Joy on our next (hopefully soon) trip to White River and stock up on the Le Lapin porcelain.
Well done to the owners of Africa Joy for being proudly South African!
