Fully recommend this hotel over any nearby.

What a refreshing departure from the chains! We hold a warm spot in our hearts for Pikk’s Tavern (see review from May 2012) so were pleasantly surprised to see that they had rooms available for rent. It’s more like a suite with a spacious separate sitting area furnished with lovely antiques. The Tavern staff actually does check-in and they are warm and efficient. The bonus is Pikk’s Tavern right downstairs where you always get a great meal.

Breathtakingly beautiful and well-appointed historic mansion in the heart of New Harmony, Indiana. Features 5 guest rooms (each with a private bathroom), a palatial high-ceilinged one bedroom loft suite and a sizable two bedroom gallery suite, complete with a living room, dining room, kitchen and 1 1/2 bathrooms. Gorgeous, meticulously maintained grounds. Luscious breakfasts. High speed wifi.
I recently spent a night here with my sister and brother-in-law (May 2022). I had wanted to offer them an amazing New Harmony experience, like one I had had several years ago in a different B&B that has since closed. The owners of that one recommended AC Thomas House. It is indeed a beautiful property, from the spacious veranda and lovely, historically appointed rooms to the perfect downtown New Harmony location. But upon arrival, we learned that it is up for sale. The current owners were nowhere to be found - apparently one is ill and the other is engaged in other projects now. The owners left everything in the hands of one very part-time staff person (you have to call this person if you need anything - there's no one on site). Even under these conditions, with just minimal attention, our stay could have been much improved. For example, they could have put water bottles, tissues, and soap in the rooms (all of these staples were lacking). The breakfast was a big disappointment. The staff asked us in an email what we wanted for breakfast but then did not come through for two of the three people in our party. Minimally, real half-and-half for coffee is essential for any place offering breakfast (they had bought that horrible creamer at the Dollar Store even though we had indicated in the email that we would appreciate half & half). And a box of nice black tea is another essential for a place like this that was lacking. Again, the breakfast issue can be remedied easily enough. The staff person was helpful to the degree possible, but perhaps isn't being given the resources or direction to do these things? There was a baby shower there the day we arrived, and some of that wasn't cleaned up, leaving traces (stray napkins, cups, decorations) in the common areas for the next 24 hours. That, too, can easily be remedied. The larger issue, which hopefully the new owners (when there are some) will attend to is the plumbing. Neither the toilet nor the shower in the Duchess Kate room worked (fortunately the staff person gave us keys to the adjoining room, empty that night, or we would not have had even a working toilet). The showers in all of our rooms need to be brought up to contemporary standards. Hopefully the new owners (when there are some) can remedy these issues and bring this place back to 5 stars, which it richly deserves, but right now, sadly, it is not. Also, not having an inn keeper (or even a more permanent staff person) onsite made it feel more like an airbnb than a Bed & Breakfast. Part of the pleasure of a stay in a place like this is being able to converse with the owners (which I was able to do in the previous place I had stayed). I'm very disappointed as I had wanted to offer my guests a special weekend. It was still great being in New Harmony, and this place has all the potential to be amazing, and aesthetically it's an absolute treasure - but right now, sadly,I cannot recommend it. The current owners need to step up their game here or stop renting rooms.

The staff here are amazing! They greet you, smile constantly, and are always attentive when you need or ask anything. The rooms are very clean and have plenty of space and amenities for a stay. Ive stayed in several military lodging facilities and none came near to the rating Grissom Inn has earned! Will definitely be back any time I come through the area needing a place to stay.

Staying at the Governor's Mansion was an amazing experience and we can't wait to go back. The rooms were very clean, the mansion was decorated with immaculate details and we felt like royalty. We sat down to the most delicious five course breakfast that we have ever eaten and our hostess was very kind and friendly. We stayed for our honeymoon trip and felt very pampered. I cannot recommend this bed and breakfast highly enough to others!

Born in 1891 to Samuel and Kate (Cole) Porter, Cole Porter was born in Peru, Indiana, and spent the first ten years of his life at 17-19 South Huntington Street. It is in this residence Cole began his career as an unparalleled composer and lyricist, composing several of his early songs, including "The Bob-O-Link Waltz." In the following years, Cole's birthplace was converted into a privately-owned apartment complex and fell into a state of disrepair. In 2003, the property was turned over to the City of Peru. In 2004, Ole Olsen Memorial Theatre (the civic theatre group was founded in 1964 as the namesake of vaudeville actor John Siguard "Ole" Olsen) purchased the Cole Porter Birthplace and over the next four years, restored to its 1891 condition! Part of that restoration included turning part of the home into a historical Inn. The Cole Porter Inn currently features a gift shop and reception area-Kate's Parlor-and three elegant suites-The Cole Porter Suite, The Anything Goes Suite, and The Night & Day Suite.
We had a most enjoyable 2 night stay at the Cole Porter Inn in Peru. We wanted to bike the Nickel Plate Trail and canoe the Wabash while there. The inn is very centrally located within walking distance of dining options and even two wine, beer, and cider tasting rooms. Our suite, the “Kiss Me Kate” suite, was very clean and extremely comfortable. It had a large sitting/living area, a very nice corner eating nook and the bedroom part could not have been nicer. The furnishing seemed to be mostly of a 1920s era which gave it a very romantic and relaxed feel. The bathroom is updated and was very clean. If you are looking for a “sterile” modern hotel environment, then this will not fit your bill, but as a fascinating step back in time, accommodations that offer plenty of room, and a luxurious, romantic, bygone feeling, this is the place. We love to travel and stay at bed and breakfasts, small inns, and restored old hotels as each one has a different feel. The Cole Porter Inn was one of the most enjoyable stays we have had. The room was nicely stocked with coffee, tea, and a few other essentials, and as an added bonus, several books on Cole Porter, who grew up in the converted house. Fascinating place to stay. Because you check in via text and the key is in the room, there is really no contact with staff, unless you need it. The staff was very responsive via text with whatever we needed.

The Goodwin Guest House is a cozy 20-room house nestled at the edge of Le Fer Lake on the campus of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. This B&B style home is well suited as a quite respite for individuals or couples, while also providing a great space for group gatherings such as friends and families who want to come together for reunions, weddings and other special events. Guests may enjoy long walks through the beautiful campus, a visit with the horses and alpacas, a quite stop in the Rooney Library to get a cup of Starbucks and a book, or may work out at the state-of-the art Club '64.
I don't know how I found this online but so glad I did. We were travelling through Terre Haute and wanted a quiet clean place to stay. St Mary of the Woods guesthouse is that. The room is basic, it's a guesthouse on a campus not a hotel. But it was warm clean and comfortable. It was quiet, so beautifully quiet and I had the best sleep of our trip there. The campus is lovely, a great place to walk safely after many hours driving. You have the option to buy a meal in the campus restaurant and we so enjoyed the experience there and the food. Everyone we met was happy, polite. It was just a lovely place to stay.
