Elfin Hill

Beautiful elevated property in the heart of the grape growing district of Pokolbin with fabulous views of the surrounding vineyards and the Brokenback mountain range.Quietly tucked away yet so close to all the very best that the wine region has to offer including only minutes to 4 world class golf courses.Recently refurbished and upgraded hotel style rooms are very comfortable with everything you need to make your stay easy and enjoyable with large glass french doors opening out onto your private veranda and perfectly framing the stunning vista. The separate loft/villa cottage provides a luxurious space with full amenities. The views from here are also fantastic with doors that open out onto the garden and courtyard area. Our small table grape vineyard and our neighbours extra large Chardonnay & Shiraz vineyard and farm animals complete the picture. The salt water swimming pool along side the BBQ area and the guest pavilion provides a refreshing end to a day out amongst the many cellar doors, restaurants, cafes, gardens etc during the summer months. The pavilion is the perfect place to relax and watch the sun go down.

Beautiful Cottage

Reviewed By YTRex

We booked for 2 nights stay in a Studio cottage for three persons. Cottage is beautifully set with a balcony that opens into the greeneries. There is a loft with a large double bed and a single bed on the lower floor. Room is clean, comfortable and has a well equipped kitchen. It is set in a good location for drivers, as it is a short drive to both Cessnock and Pokolbin towns and to various cellar doors. We encountered an unexpected storm and blackout on our second night. The host was quick to reassure the guests and to ensure our safety and well being, walking in the strong wind and rain with blankets to keep us warm and parceling out battery operated candles, and checking in on us periodically. Luckily, the storm blew over quickly and lights were restored soon after. Definitely a memorable stay, for the beautiful cottage, views and great hospitality.

Holmesville Hotel

Welcome to Holmesville Hotel a favourite local that has been the social centre of Holmesville since 1904. Located on the outskirts of Newcastle, featuring pub accommodation, bistro, sports bar and a friendly atmosphere. Holmesville accommodation features wireless internet, toiletries, TV, lamp, black out curtains, and linen and towels. Accommodation is located on the first floor accessible by stairs. The front bar is a longtime local favourite where craft beer options abound. For the wine drinkers choose from wine regions all around Australia. The bar itself includes lots of warm woods, comfortable seating, and an atmosphere that invites people to sit and stay awhile. For the sports nuts, you are guaranteed to never miss a race or game, with live sports action running all-day The hotel's federation structure was completed in 1904 by William Turnball & Sons, builders from West Wallsend. It was commissioned by Robert Drurie, a Draper at West Wallsend who purchased Lot 20 Holmesville from Joseph Holmes in 1903. Architectural features include a magnificent wrought iron lacework balcony panels of which bear a foundry stamp of 1899. The exterior has remained the same since construction with the exception of the addition of tiles to the front facade around 1914, and the loss of the terracotta pot from the chimney on the Northern end of building. This pot was dislodged in the Pasha Bulker storm of 2007. The original staircase remains, as do the metal ceilings.

Dinner with friends

Reviewed By FuudTrip

Visited the pub with friends for dinner and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals - one veg burger, one lamb cutlets, one lamb rump & the scotch. Really tasty, good value and plentiful (loved the FRESH veggies, not a frozen one in sight). It’s been years since we visited this pub and they’ve really done some great renovations and the beer garden is excellent for an evening meal in the fresh air. Unfortunately we missed the 8.30 cut off to order dessert so if you’re after anything from the kitchen be sure to watch your clock as they close on the dot.

Really nice food

Reviewed By Biggeoffrey1

The restaurant itself is open and airy and also presented a welcoming feel. The staff were also very very nice and friendly. The menu for a pub was quite good and the prices reasonable. For the first time I had a Vegetarian meal which was Schnitzel with mash and vegetables which I thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend.

Noisy and rubbish carpark. Nice room though

Reviewed By dajolani

We had a weekend in Newcastle and chose here to stay. Location is handy to train station and pubs but gets noisy at night from revellers and the constant slamming a door downstairs. Don’t book to carpark unless you have a small car - it’s double stacked on a scissor lift and very tight and complicated. Rooms though are well appointed and clean.
