The 10 best Resorts in Arkansas, United States

April 18, 2023 Kiesha Cripe

Living up to its billing as “The Natural State”, the state is a nature wonderland with three national forests, nearly 9,000 miles of pristine streams and rivers, awe-inspiring settings in the Ozark and Quachita mountains and sparkling lakes. The menu of vacation experiences is an exciting one. For great golf, spas, horse racing and the Hot Springs National Park, Hot Springs is the place to go. Outdoor enthusiasts love the Ozark Mountains where activities like canoeing, rafting, kayaking, fishing, hiking and rock climbing are popular. The mountain village of Eureka Springs, with its streets lined with Victorian homes, is brimming with boutiques, antique shops and art galleries. Wine enthusiasts love the Arkansas Wine Country, encompassing the towns of Paris, Ozark and Altus, where German style wines are produced. From its ancient mountains to the Delta flatlands leveled by the Mississippi River, the state has a diverse topography with numerous scenic drives. Try the Pig Trail, Ozark Highlands and Sylamore scenic byways in the Ozark National Forest designated by the U.S. Forest Service. Golfers love the state because greens fees are extremely affordable for great courses. A few excellent public access courses are Sage Meadows in Jonesboro, Stonebridge Meadows in Fayetteville and the Mountain Ranch Course in Fairfield Bay.

Awesome resort!

We had a wonderful mini family vacation. The cabin was spacious, nicely decorated and clean. Staff very friendly and accommodating. We received a text message prior to day of arrival and day of arrival greeting us as a family, we also received a text letting us know that we could text resort staff if anything is needed in the cabin. We had a great view of the lake. We took a boat out for the day and everyone treated us so well and made sure the boat was ready for our family. Amazing little trip and we will be back for sure!

Not only a nice hotel with a great location on the lake, it was clean with very kind employees. The staff works to make sure that you have a great stay. One employee rescued my son's toy when he saw that it fell into the lake, and when our shower broke, another employee came immediately to our room to fix it (and quickly and quietly resolved the issue insuring not to wake our baby).

Anniversary Lunch

Reviewed By rte0733

As a special treat to my Wife on our 34th wedding anniversary I decided to take her to lunch at the restaurant at Gaston's. We live in the area so I called the restaurant that morning to make sure it was "OK" for us to swing by just for lunch as we are not staying there. I was told that would be fine but for dinner, after 5:PM, they prefer a formal reservation. When we got there at about 1:PM the lady at the desk seemed distressed that we did not actually have a set reservation but seated us anyway at a nice table looking over the White River. The place was empty except for only one other table. I was prepared for the high prices but expected the food to be high quality. My Wife ordered the French Dip sandwich for $14.00 - I order fried catfish for $21.00 and we added the salad bar. Her sandwich was small with a few slices of processed beef that looked like it had been re-hated several times. My catfish was mushy which indicates it was cooked at the wrong temp. Cold mashed potatoes with gravy that tasted like wall paper paste! The salad bar was very good and the awesome view made the entire $45.00 lunch worth it. BUT... When I expressed my disappointment about the horrible food - to the waitress, who did not check on us until much later, all she could offer was a new piece of fish after checking with "the kitchen"...? A new piece of fish...? Really...? We were there for almost an hour before that offer was made which was not the right way to solve our disappointment. Being local I would have much preferred a solution I could brag about to my large circle of friends and family however, I can't recommend Gaston's Restaurant to anyone. In fact since then when I mentioned this bad experience to anyone else the response I get is - "oh yeah it's well known how bad the food id there"...! As a last resort the waitress was allowed to bring me out a piece of pie for free to show how sorry they were. That was nice but taking off at least half of the cost of the lousy meal would have been the right thing to do. Surely at those prices they could afford that. Lastly the fact that we were there for our anniversary was never mentioned again after we were seated. Sadly the disappointing lunch left a "wet blanket" on our entire day.

Beautiful place — great owner

Showed up late but the owner answered his personal phone and got me all set up. So cool to talk to the owner of a place like this since most of the time you book online, hope the spot is what they say it’s going to be, and roll the dice. Not so with this place… True southern hospitality!

Longbow

The perfect little Garden of Eden if you want peace and quiet...

Reviewed By Jsnbw

My wife and I just returned from staying in the Longbow cabin. If you are looking to unplug from everything, this is the place to do it. No cell phone service, no wi-fi, no satellite TV, not even antenna TV. Bring a good book or two and just relax in the hammock. The weather was warm for October, so we went for a swim under the waterfall. Took a hike along the trails for exercise too. We were just enjoying God's beautiful creation. I recommend you travel in a SUV or truck. The access roads ro the Longbow and Bushwacker cabins are steep and winding. Make sure you have good tires no matter what you drive. We just took our time and enjoyed the scenery of our leisurely ride. The cabin was clean when we arrived. It has all of the necessities, keep in mind it is not the Ritz-Carlton. It has a queen bed, and the mattress was okay. I am a big guy, 6'2" and 300 lbs, so I'm used to a king size bed. The shower was a little bit of a challenge for me, but I managed. These are not negatives for me, because the place is just cozy, rustic, and beautiful. We would have no problem staying here again and I highly recommend it.
