A real Tuscan Haven, stunning setting and exceptional accommodation

Reviewed By Claire W

We absolutely loved our family break here. Staying at the Case de Lago was brilliant - the accommodation is fantastic, rustic chic at its finest and perfectly designed, including the overall freshness, cute Jack and Jill bathroom and that feeling of really living somewhere. Being able to rustle up your own meals (after a trip to the cobbled streets of Volterra for authentic and delicious supplies of course…) is really nice when you’re travelling as a family and not wanting the restrictions of set meal times every day. The private pool, garden area and electric buggy for roaming the estate were all delightful additions that were not on the website! You cannot fault the scenery or general ambience. The outdoor bar and wine tasting were particular highlights for us. The setting of the Al Fresco restaurant is cracking, whereas the main restaurant takes its menus more seriously. There is room for minor improvements in the speed of service, replenishment of breakfast buffet etc but who cares when you are having such an enjoyable stay amongst staff who are genuinely trying to provide the best service. We rarely go back to fabulous holiday destinations but we might just make an exception for Borgo Pignano…..

It has true Tuscan atmosphere, we felt like in a movie :-) Paolo is a great host, he even brought us some local wine to enhance the Italian experience. The rooms were clean and tidy, the wifi was working really well, the bathrooms and the kitchen were equipped with everything we needed. We hope to come back soon!

Too nice to leave....

Reviewed By 15Claire15

If there was a negative to our stay here it was, as the title says, that it was too nice to leave. I had plans for our stay in the area and they almost all went out of the window in favour of wandering round the stables and lazing by the pool. We walked into Viterbo every day and took the bus once but other than that just enjoyed the place. We had a little kitchen area so in the evenings we stayed home and ate there after lunching out. This meant that the fact we were carless and a little way out of town did not matter at all, especially as Anna gave us a lift both ways when we arrived and left. The accommodation in general was great, the bed was comfy and we slept late because the room was so dark thanks to the shutters, bliss. Breakfast too was very nice. If you are looking for a place to relax after a hectic time in Rome choose here you won't be disappointed.

Great quiet place, somewhat isolated part of sicily, watch the size og your belly because the food is nice

Reviewed By 202mikkelf

Nice quiet place except weekends its somewhat more lively. Very good food and a lot of it from their own farm - except the breakfast is somewhat dull or just very italian and sweet. The staff in general do not speak english very well - but they do their best and or try to find someone who can. Some covid restrictions,no cooking class or pizza! - should be visible on homepage we might have chosen another place if we had know . Otherwise nice place, roads on inland sicily sucks :) - it takes a while to drive and see places, dont go here if you have no car or are scared of small mountain roads The surroundings are very beautiful if the place should develop itself. Go there if you want nice and quiet natural surroundings and great food. It could be cool if they had better internet - it really was sporadic at best. They should prioritize more things to do locally like cooking class etc - it could be done outside for example, having mountainbikes … Anyways great place recommended

This is a gem and I would definitely stay again. The complex is six years old and set just outside Dossobuonno among fields of Kiwi Fruit and vines. It is a 20 minute walk into town and there 4 or 5 restaurants and pizzerias. There is a train into Verona but the service is limited. Best to drive into Verona and park in one of the various car parks.

In the middle of olive groves, vineyards and citrus trees lies a pearl of a mansion, or actually a typical Puglianese ranch called the Masseria Incantalupi. A beautiful resort to relax by the pool, sleep in one of the spacious apartments or suites and enjoy the family’s own produced wine, olive oil and vegetables. Very tasteful apartments providing you everything you need. The thick stone mansion walls will keep you cool during the region’s hot summers. And the family who owns this property are lovely! Very dedicated to their customers, friendly and very easy going. It was a pleasure to stay here!

Santa Maria Degli Ancillotti

Above all, Santa Maria degli Ancillotti is suited to couples who would like to be in a friendly family-run hotel where service is of the utmost importance. Santa Maria degli Ancillotti is set in 4 hectares of parkland, protected by trees and well-tended hedges. The buildings, which date back to 1179, were renovated by the owner with the aim of creating a peaceful retreat for guests seeking privacy and tranquility. There are 7 spacious suites fully renovated in April 2014, with every comfort: individually controlled air conditioning and heating, satellite TV, direct line telephone, free mini-bar, safe, kettle and hairdryer, beach towel for the swimming pool, and an external area with table and chairs. Originally planned as apartments, the spaces are now occupied by suites which comprise a double room with double bed or two twin beds depending on your requirements, and a spacious wardrobe. The living room is large and bright with a sofa which quickly transforms into two single beds. The bathroom has a large and modern shower.

The beautiful location, spacious and perfectly cleaned rooms (with good wifi and airconditioning !), large swimming pool with comfortable sunbeds and large umbrellas and a large garden full of olive trees create a relaxing atmosphere where you really feel at home. All of this perfectly combined with high quality service and attention to detail. And last but not least ... dinner ! Fresh quality ingredients, prepared with passion and love (thank you again Inez, Susie and "mammie" !!!) and served by Alessio with a big smile. What else would one want ? Of course, a good bottle of wine. No problem. The wine list has more than enough possibilities. A unique combination which so far we have not found anywhere else, making Santa Maria Degli Ancillotti heaven on earth.
