We haven't stayed in a Holiday Inn Express in quite a while. We were very impressed at the experience at HIE Charleston Convention. The hotel was very clean and every staff member we came across was very pleasant and professional. There were a few items we requested from guest services and they were immediately delivered to the door by a friendly employee. We came in with a sports team so we were also pleasantly surprised how quiet it was on our floor! Maybe we got lucky with quiet families around us or maybe the walls were thick enough to mute it but either case we didn't hear any other guests. The room was very nice. Beds were very comfortable. Breakfast offered hot/cold items. Even the shampoo/conditioner/body wash was a nice smelling brand which is always appreciated! We would definitely stay again!

Dirty and smells like weed

Reviewed By 344glendab

We decided to leave for our vacation two days early. We arrived in Myrtle Beach very late and the office to the place we were staying for the week was closed so the Mermaid Inn was close by. Check in and check out was easy. Staff was nice but the rooms need updating very bad and wasn’t the cleanest. The parking lot smelled of weed. It’s definitely not a place I would spend my vacation. We stayed there two nights and I couldn’t wait to check out.

DISGUSTING DO NOT STAY HERE

To all you Outer Banks fans take your pictures and run!! This place is nasty. From the bugs to taking a shower in a foot of water and more. My 11 year old couldn’t get out of there fast enough. We found stuff in the top drawer a phone case on the floor a substance on the window slat. The pillow was stuffed with stuffing so you know that pillow case was never washed. The bedside lamp and outlet didn’t work so hopefully you didn’t want your phone or to read because you would be keeping everyone else staying with you awake. They def don’t believe in bleach because there were stains all over the comforter and sheets. It was just plain disgusting. Too bad there isn’t a negative star because this place deserves a -5!! Yes

Do not stay here. Where to begin.. Solo female traveler. I haven’t stayed in the southern end of Myrtle Beach for years and was shocked at how sketchy the area has become. My first clue when trying to enter the lobby at 6:00pm, was that all the doors were locked. I didn’t understand why my Uber driver was reluctant to leave me alone there. Now I know why. Front desk person finally unlocked a door and then locked it behind me. Not the most welcoming person. The room.. not AT ALL like the pics. A couple things may have been updated or painted, but it’s still in disrepair. My door had a large opening around it like it wasn’t hung right. Tricky to actually get it to lock. The door to the balcony was the same way. Not exactly comforting when you’re traveling alone. No hot water in the bathroom faucet. Handle on shower was loose, so hard to regulate temp. There was a wet spot on carpet (found it by stepping on in my socks) and it reeked of urine. I walked 5 min to the Walmart Market ONE time. It felt so unsafe with two separate cars with blacked out windows stopping along side me and honking. Outside of hotel, all you could smell was weed. To each his own, but it shouldn’t impose on others. The front desk person on the first day tried to charge me twice for the stay. I had already paid in full via a third party app. Pointed it out to the next front desk person the second day, she corrected it and it showed as a credit on my card. The next morning I looked at my account again and the charge was back on!! I inquired again, and was told that it was “pending” and would not be charged again. I have to keep checking because I have no reason to trust at this point. I checked out a day early because it was so miserable. Although the beds & linens were pretty decent, between the smells and the noise outside (it’s a very noisy area with loud music coming from cars and the pool is supposed to be closed at 10, but people were yelling and screaming at midnight) made it very hard to sleep. All of this made it impossible to just sit on the balcony and relax. I booked this hotel based on reviews as always, but I seriously have to question who wrote them. Don’t waste your money or vacation time on this place.

Very Accommodating

Nice clean room, great price and quiet charming atmosphere you'd expect in a small town. The staff was very accommodating. My husband needs a handicap room which was sensibly located on the first floor, close to the front door and free-breakfast area. The bathroom was large with a walk-in shower and numerous grab bars. None of the usual obstacles we encounter with handicap rooms. They have a small, well-maintained out-door pool and exercise area. They also offer thoughtful amenities, such as a place to park boats and travel trailers, as well as a barbeque area complete with utensils.
