Reviewed By TomV747Tastefully renovated buildings in the old stable accessible via a steep stair, bright rooms with nice bedding, en suite bathroom with shower cabins, beautiful park and vegetable garden, swimming pool. Very cosy decoration, an excellent place to relax. Warm welcome, breakfast with many choices. A real plus! Although we reserved two rooms and only one was prepared, this was immediately taken care of. The minus? Check & validate prices before you go/arrive as prices differ according to source. And yes the rooms are quite noisy ...but that does not take away the overall experience

A wonderful time-warp
Reviewed By Roger STomtom found the hotel easily, but no one on site. We parked the car under a tree by a wash house, got out water and our Kindles, found shade and awaited events. We tried the phone number from the hotel web-site without result. After half an hour, the owner's daughter appeared, apologised, showed us our room and where we could put temperature sensitive medicines. In the porcess she showed us the pool, clear and clean water, very inviting. She also said her mother was having internet problems and thought we should have arrived the previous day. she also showed us an inconspicuous slate with the number to call on arrival which we had not noticed. The room was part of a large block of great age extending to two sides of a square. think of it as a cross between a farm and a manor. The double bed took up only a small port of the bedroom which also had large amounts of period furniture and took up almost the whole thickness of the building and had french windows opening onto a large shady garden. The bathroom had both bath and walk in shower and immediately outside the room was a memorial display to a family member who was a shoemaker and had a display of his shoe lasts and tools. When the owner arrived she also apologised and offered to provide us with dinner, cooked by her daughter's husband who was a chef. We asked for a meal suitable for the heat wave we were encountering. this was served to us by the owner in the dining room on a large mahogany table. It included melon and water melon served in cut glass goblets, an array of cold meats and cheese with a superb tomato salad, a bottle of red wine and a dish of raspberries, strawberries and cream. Breakfast in the same room was also of excellent quality. We left with regret. I would be very happy to spend a longer period in this excellent if unusual place. It is something of a time warp where nothing is ever thrown away and we loved it

New in town really bad service
Reviewed By Sw10talWaiter asked if we had a reservation in a quiet Resturant! Then huffed and puffed took 10 mins to even bring a menu! Choices were poor and atmosphere worse - will not recommend this to the English in St Jean!

The only thing I’m sad about is that we were unable to stay longer, as they were fully booked for the rest of the Summer. Antoine is the perfect owner who clearly puts his guests and their needs first, aswell as maintaining this fantastic property on a daily basis. We will be back!’

Built in 1633 as a Cognac store this characterful property lies within easy walking distance of Saint Jean D'Angely. It faces the beautiful Boutonne River and is a perfect overnight stop when travelling through France (only 4 mins from the A10). It is also popular with those wanting to spend more time in the area, with easy access to the West coast (La Rochelle, Ile de Re, Royan), and other treats inland, including nearby Cognac and Saintes. Guests have plenty of space and share a large living room and small kitchen (fridge/freezer, microwave, hob) in addition to their well equipped and comfortable rooms.

Reviewed By Monty1332We stopped by l'etoile du port for the 3rd or 4th time last week with my partner and x2 daughters on our way back from South of France to London. I decided to finally review the place as it is always very consistent with a great welcome from Claire, yummy breakfast and very comfy beds and clean and spacious bedroom. We will come back. Highly recommended!

Hidden gem
Reviewed By martinsB3397PGThis place is a real gem, tucked away just off the centre of town with ample free parking within a few minutes drive. Our room was on the second floor with a bathroom adjoining down a short corridor - for us it would be important to ensure private use which we had, but there was another bedroom that presumably could have shared it. Breakfast was stunning in a beautiful dining room overlooking the garden at the rear.

Excellent and enjoyable
Reviewed By Carolyn PA wonderful and warm welcome by the staff of this lovely restaurant. Tasteful decor, great atmosphere, amazing food, beautifully presented and discreet but attentive service. A valentines meal of excellent quality and no feeling of being commercially ripped off because it was Valentines....and ww came away with the flower arrangement from our tavle as a gift.

Beautiful bed and breakfast
Reviewed By mariepierce1Gilles and Carole are the perfect hosts. Nothing is too much trouble. All rooms are beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean as is the pool. The gardens are very well maintained. Lovely welcoming breakfast where you can meet other guests. Gilles introduced me to pineau, a lovely pre dinner drink, thank you. I am still enjoying it. Highly recommend

St Jean D'Angely
Reviewed By Y2520FEstevepWe spent over a decade visiting St Jean staying at our brother in law's house. A lovely town, great restaurants, lots to see both nearby and further afield. Well worth a week's stay. We haven't stayed at this campsite but have seen it from outside and love the location by the lake - which we invariably visited at least once during each holiday. Now the house is sold we may well come back, this time to stay at the site.
